View 1 RepliesI am installing a number of boxes with RHEL 6, using a kickstart file I made and put on a boot disk.I am having trouble, however, when using this disk. The boot loader recognizes my kickstart file, but when it prompts me that it can't find the RHEL distro on my disk, and that I need to insert the DVD that contains the distro, I cannot eject the CD. Button pushy, no ejecty. I tried a paper clip to open the drive, but even after inserting the distro disk this way, it doesn't see it. It's like anaconda is wrapped around the mount of the boot disk and won't let go.
There's nothing special I need to have in the kickstart file for this to work right? I have thought about putting an eject statement in the post section, but that isn't even used until the OS is installed is it? I can get around this by creating a distro DVD with my kickstart file, but I'd rather not do that, and use the kickstart/boot disk functionality as intended.
i downloaded Ubuntu server from here, choosing 32-bit:[URL].. i burned the image to a CD. i booted it, and tried to install it. i went through a bunch of screens before it started to install. after a while i got an error message that reads: "Please insert the disc labeled: 'Ubuntu-Server 10.04.1 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100816.2)' in the drive /cdrom/ and press enter."
i don't understand this message. when i downloaded Server there was no message to save a second file for a second CD.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do exactly this: [URL] the first time i did it, I made it and everything was fine, except I didn't know what "installation size" meant in wubi, so as I selected 3GB, the rest of the partition was left empty and I didn't have enough space for ubuntu. Then I formatted the partition again and reinstalled ubuntu. Since then while it's booting, I get the message Disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter. I tried reinstalling many times, but I still get this message..
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am kinda new to Linux but because I started a linux-course I decided to install it on my desktop. Before I used Virtual Box or VMware so it was pretty straightforward but now I have a problem with booting into Win7. I decided to install Debian along with my Win7. From a hardware perspective the things are like this, I have 3 HDD, 2 on a RAID0 and the third will be the one with Linux. On the RAID0 matrix I installed Win7 first, all ok there.
Then I started installing Debian. I followed the installation wizard, I partitioned the 3rd HDD and selected it as the drive for Linux. Then after I installed Linux and rebooted I only saw Debian in the GRUBs boot options, no sign of Win7. I think it has to do with the RAID0 matrix which "houses" Win7. I disconnected the 3rd HDD, and now when I try to boot no sign of the Win7 bootloader thou the RAID0 is ok. The only message I get is "insert boot disk".
I bought a t770.uk HP desktop PC, which came without a Hard drive as the pervious owner had removed it for security reasons. A week later I got a hold of a brand new - out of an anti-static sealed bag - compatible Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB SATA150 7200 HDD, and installed it as directed by my t770.uk manual. Up until now, things looked to be on a roll. As I don't have any windows OS, I figured Ubunutu would be the way to go (and it certainly is from what I've heard and read about it. I can't wait!).
So I sent off for a CD and it popped through my mail a few weeks back. The problem that I am having is after booting past a very brief view of the HP POST screen, the screen goes black with the error "Disc boot failure-insert system disk and press enter". I've tried placing the Ubuntu disc in (assuming it is asking for that? An OS disc) and restarting, and changing the boot order around, but no matter what I do the error persists and I can't install Ubuntu. I really want to get this PC running with Ubuntu.
I'm running Kubuntu Karmic on my Dell Inspiron laptop - about 200 bug fixes behind because my only available internet is a cellular connection on a crappy wi-fi router - and last night, I suspended it, but it shut down instead. Not a problem, it does this fairly often, figure the RAM gets jostled or something.
But when I go to boot it up, it gets stuck at the pre-loading screen before getting garbled and dropping to the shell, where it says "mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/[insert hex code here] failed: invalid argument". Of course, mounting /root/sys, /root/dev and /root/proc fails, (directory does not exist) and it gives me the busybox initramfs prompt.
Today, I was downloading some stuff from online. I left for a few minutes and came back to find that someone had hit my loose power cord, causing the computer to restart. When I completed the reboot (It always says "Insert system disk and press enter" after checking CD drives), and had it load OpenSuSE 11.3 Failsafe (Regular won't work for me), it loaded into Teal (BASH, Command Prompt, Kommand, whatever you want to call it). At first, I thought maybe I screwed up and told it to load into that. But, I tried again, and it did the same. I tried using Non-Failsafe, and got the same results. I am able to edit, add, or remove programs from the Linux partition, though.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes the Insert key can be VERY annoying in the following sense:
1. It is close to the Delete and Home key (in many keyboards, not all), so chances are that it often gets mis-pressed. This also depends on how the keyboard is designed. Maybe a good design can avoid such kind of mis-pressing (even with the same layout).
2. A mis-pressing of the Insert key can be VERY disastrous (you can imagine, e.g. when used in command line during a 'rm' process in a rush), although this happens very rarely.
I did not find any option to disable this key in the system configuration, although it seems possible to do this by installing a plugin. But it is not difficult to add such an option in the keyboard setting panel, right? I must say that the current 'keyboard layout options' panel is already quite messy, although I don't know the meanings of most of them.
I have no idea how or why it happened. How do I change it back?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been all over the internet for the last several hours (at least 3, I lost track). I see the same lousy question coming up over and over. Are people finding a way to do it? It seems so. Are most of the solutions something I think I'm capable of doing? Probably not.
We're trying to fill out a document and sign it between the two of us. He's gotten his part done but he has expensive software that I don't have and can't afford. The whole thing is starting to get a little sour for us both by this point. I've been fussing with this thing for over 3 days now.
I downloaded PDFedit today and was able to use it to fill text into the fields that require that. Now I have one remaining space that needs my signature. I have a jpg file of my sig saved but I'll be darned if I can get the thing into the pdf. Come tomorrow I'll have to go back to work at my regular job and God knows when I'll have time to get back to this. By that time the deal is probably blown! PDFedit seems like it should be able to do this but I just don't know how to use it well enough.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing Ubuntu 10 (Ubuntu Studio) with Evolution 2.28.3 - i can LOAD images into Evolution and they appear while i compose the email but they do NOT appear in the recipient's email -- they do not appear even if i send an email to myself! I DO have "format messages in html" checked. I DO NOT have "always load images from the internet" checked because that refers to my inbox, not to me composing an email; instead, i have "load images in messages from contacts" checked; besides, these are local pictures that i am inserting, not from the web. Again, neither a friend can see the images (though she can when receiving them from other ppl) nor can i see them if sent to myself, or even in my copies in my "sent mail" folder. The emoticons behave similarly. Is this a glitch? I am new to Evolution, though quite familiar with Linux and with T-bird, K-Mail, Claws, etc.

I get an error message: "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/{name of previous disk} busy." But mount command doesn't show /dev/sr0 and ls /media shows nothing. I have to log out, then log back in in order to play another video. (same result with mplayer)
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll I want is a lxde based desktop to play with and tweak. The problem is that I am using rather esoteric hardware. An xcore86 device on chip to be precise. I have a custom kernel in deb format, and I managed to install UNR 9.10 and then install the custom kernel. Strip out as much obvious gnome stuff and install an lxde desktop. Now this is a quite good solution but still leaves me with a lot of junk that I am not sure I need. 2 ideas occurred to me. Install lubuntu and then install the custom kernel(this failed to work because lubuntu's kernel refused to play nicely with the xcore) or do a minimal install and work my way up adding the things that I wanted. (Again this ground to a halt when the screen went blank)
I looked at unetbootin to try and put in a custom kernel but to a novice like myself it did not work very well. Can anyone help, either a list of everything that can be removed safely from a UNR install to leave me with a minimal install, or a way to insert a custom kernel into a lubuntu iso?
Alright. So.... I insert a blank cd, then everything on my desktop goes away, and I can't open anything off of my "places" menu... on 9.04, btw.

What I noticed:
- The problem is not present if I use TightVNC for Windows for remote access (works as expected)
- The problem doesn't go out if I install open-vm-tools (installed with apt-get install --no-install-recommends open-vm-tools
- Vmware console works correctly if the system installed on a virtual machine is Windows
I have a problem with a wireless mouse on my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10. If thw receiver is plugged during boot, it works out of the box. But if I plug it in afterwards, I have to manually do

My question is how to automatically load a module when a usb device with a given id is inserted?
My name is ken on my system. Whenever I try to use CTRL or Shift Insert to copy or paste text, i get a dialog box that comes up and says, Could not find "/home/ken/~", see attachment, even after I click on the OK button. It used to work a long long time ago.It does not copy or paste anything. I'm on Karmic. If its a keybinding where the heck is it located. I'm sort of a noob.
