Ubuntu Multimedia :: Way To Insert A Jpg Into A Pdf ?
Jun 12, 2011
I've been all over the internet for the last several hours (at least 3, I lost track). I see the same lousy question coming up over and over. Are people finding a way to do it? It seems so. Are most of the solutions something I think I'm capable of doing? Probably not.
We're trying to fill out a document and sign it between the two of us. He's gotten his part done but he has expensive software that I don't have and can't afford. The whole thing is starting to get a little sour for us both by this point. I've been fussing with this thing for over 3 days now.
I downloaded PDFedit today and was able to use it to fill text into the fields that require that. Now I have one remaining space that needs my signature. I have a jpg file of my sig saved but I'll be darned if I can get the thing into the pdf. Come tomorrow I'll have to go back to work at my regular job and God knows when I'll have time to get back to this. By that time the deal is probably blown! PDFedit seems like it should be able to do this but I just don't know how to use it well enough.
is there a way that I can insert a wav file in an email and play when the receiver opens the mail? I don't mean when he clicks on an attachment but when he opens the message file. Using Latest Thunderbird version.
After successfully playing a DVD video (w/VLC) I close VLC, eject the DVD, then insert another disk. I get an error message: "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/{name of previous disk} busy." But mount command doesn't show /dev/sr0 and ls /media shows nothing. I have to log out, then log back in in order to play another video. (same result with mplayer)
Sometimes the Insert key can be VERY annoying in the following sense:
1. It is close to the Delete and Home key (in many keyboards, not all), so chances are that it often gets mis-pressed. This also depends on how the keyboard is designed. Maybe a good design can avoid such kind of mis-pressing (even with the same layout).
2. A mis-pressing of the Insert key can be VERY disastrous (you can imagine, e.g. when used in command line during a 'rm' process in a rush), although this happens very rarely.
I did not find any option to disable this key in the system configuration, although it seems possible to do this by installing a plugin. But it is not difficult to add such an option in the keyboard setting panel, right? I must say that the current 'keyboard layout options' panel is already quite messy, although I don't know the meanings of most of them.
While I was installing Skype the terminal told me te insert thee Natty Narwhal CD/DVD in /cdrom/ But I don't have a Natty CD/DVD. I've installed Natty from a SD Card.ow can install Skype (and others software where this CD/DVD is needed)
i inserted a thumbdrive on one of the usb slots on my laptop upon inserting it shows:[sdb] Assuming drive cache: Write through[977.113519] sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming cache: Write through
how to read the contents of my thumbdrive?Do i need to mount it first or what should be the procedure?
Using Ubuntu 10 (Ubuntu Studio) with Evolution 2.28.3 - i can LOAD images into Evolution and they appear while i compose the email but they do NOT appear in the recipient's email -- they do not appear even if i send an email to myself! I DO have "format messages in html" checked. I DO NOT have "always load images from the internet" checked because that refers to my inbox, not to me composing an email; instead, i have "load images in messages from contacts" checked; besides, these are local pictures that i am inserting, not from the web. Again, neither a friend can see the images (though she can when receiving them from other ppl) nor can i see them if sent to myself, or even in my copies in my "sent mail" folder. The emoticons behave similarly. Is this a glitch? I am new to Evolution, though quite familiar with Linux and with T-bird, K-Mail, Claws, etc.
All I want is a lxde based desktop to play with and tweak. The problem is that I am using rather esoteric hardware. An xcore86 device on chip to be precise. I have a custom kernel in deb format, and I managed to install UNR 9.10 and then install the custom kernel. Strip out as much obvious gnome stuff and install an lxde desktop. Now this is a quite good solution but still leaves me with a lot of junk that I am not sure I need. 2 ideas occurred to me. Install lubuntu and then install the custom kernel(this failed to work because lubuntu's kernel refused to play nicely with the xcore) or do a minimal install and work my way up adding the things that I wanted. (Again this ground to a halt when the screen went blank)
I looked at unetbootin to try and put in a custom kernel but to a novice like myself it did not work very well. Can anyone help, either a list of everything that can be removed safely from a UNR install to leave me with a minimal install, or a way to insert a custom kernel into a lubuntu iso?
I'm using Ubuntu installed on a vmware virtual machine and everything worked find except accessing Shift-Insert (Shift-0 on the numeric pad) in VMware console window (Windows XP). I'm one of those who used to using Shift-Ins and Ctrl-Ins for clipboard and Insert is where 0 on the numeric pad (Num-Lock is off). With this configuration any Shift-Numeric keys give numbers (as if NumLock was on)
What I noticed:
- The problem is not present if I use TightVNC for Windows for remote access (works as expected) - The problem doesn't go out if I install open-vm-tools (installed with apt-get install --no-install-recommends open-vm-tools
- Vmware console works correctly if the system installed on a virtual machine is Windows
I have a problem with a wireless mouse on my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10. If thw receiver is plugged during boot, it works out of the box. But if I plug it in afterwards, I have to manually do
Code: sudo modprobe usbhid for it to start workin.
My question is how to automatically load a module when a usb device with a given id is inserted?
My name is ken on my system. Whenever I try to use CTRL or Shift Insert to copy or paste text, i get a dialog box that comes up and says, Could not find "/home/ken/~", see attachment, even after I click on the OK button. It used to work a long long time ago.It does not copy or paste anything. I'm on Karmic. If its a keybinding where the heck is it located. I'm sort of a noob.
I discovered a couple of applications that can't miss in the Ubuntu repository. At the moment these applications work by the context menu scripts, i suppose it is because are not fully integrate into the distro. The applications are:
today is my second week using ubuntu , my question is how can i insert malware block list on ubuntu? as my regular win user i always put the list in dirrectory x: winblows system32 drivers etc hosts[URL]
I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on my G4 mirror tower. I have two DVD burners in my G4. When I go to open the DVD tray by pressing the eject key on my Apple keyboard, the tray opens and closes. It doesn't stay open. When I insert a CD or DVD, it doesn't show up on my computer. i have to restart my computer for it to show up in the Computer window. Also, when i eject a CD or DVD, I still see the contents of it on my computer even though the disk has been ejected. I pressed reload under the view menu and it still displays the contents.
I use WordPress. If I want to choose an image to insert into the blog, the file browser window (unlike even the most basic version of Windows) only gives me a "list view" option and no other options. This.Is.A.Huge.Limitation. I can't choose an image visually - only by name. Is there a way to remedy this? Will a different file browser (instead of Nautilus?) get me what I want?
Is there a easy program that uses a GUI or am I going to need to do this from the terminal, either way I don't care I just need to be pointed in the right direction. I installed the 7zip package and started using it in the terminal but I can't figure out how to insert a password into my command. 7z x <package> [LOCATION] ?
I'm really new to Ubuntu, and am running 10.04. Anyway, I accidentally got rid of the Evolution icon in my Notification Area. Every time I try to put an icon in that section, it will not let me, and makes me put the icon on the left side of it, like on the main part of the panel. I do not know if I just hid the icon, or if I actually removed it, and I am sure the fix is really simple, I just can't seem to figure out how to do it. Also, I opened the Universal Access program when checking out all the cool things in my new OS, but I can't figure out how to hide that icon. So if you could tell me how to unhide Evolution and hide Universal Access, in the Notification Area, that would be awesome. Here is an image if you do not know where I am talking about, or whatever
I would like to store JPG files in a mysql database table. I figured that using BLOB fields on the one hand and the 'load_file' command on the other would do the trick. Here is how I set up the table:
mysql> create table blobtable (id int(10) not null auto_increment, fileName varchar(15) not null, file longblob not null, primary key(id) ); Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.51 sec)
Then I tried to enter the data: mysql> insert into blobtable(filename,file)values('pic',load_file('/var/www/temp/IMGP4764.JPG'));
Which got me the following error signal: ERROR 1048 (23000): Column 'file' cannot be null
It seems to me that the file path to the JPG file (although correct) is the source of the problem, and is causing the load_file command not to work. My first attempt was with the JPG file in my PC's home directory. When that returned the same error message, I figured that maybe the file had to be in the PC's (server's) web area so I put it under the 'www' directory.
I use my ubuntu laptop at work and connect a lot of usb pen drives to my computer. Everyone else I work with use windows and I want to make sure that the usb pen drives don't contain any windows viruses so I don't spread them. The best way for this to be done would be to have the USB pen drives automatically scanned with they are inserted in my ubuntu machine. How to do this?
Im looking to use the Apache2 GeoIP mod to block countries from accessing a website. I've searched, but cannot seem to find any information on how to insert the code into the virtual host file. Does anyone know how to get this working or can point me in the right direction?
