Ubuntu :: Save Metadata Of Folder Between Different OS?

Nov 24, 2010

At windows, if I set any icon to folder, this creates desktop.ini, or .directory. At ubuntu, I noted that this information is only stored in metadata, which you can access typing "gvfs-metadata" I found this idea: http:[url].....but I don't know how to realize that.I'd like to do that. For specific folder for example, store the metadata info in hidden file, which could be read in windows or any OS.

Ubuntu :: Xrandr Doesn't Save Changes - How To Make It To Save Changes

Jun 16, 2010

my mediacenter is attached to an beamer with the optimal resolution of 1280*720 ubuntu 10.04 doesnt offer me this revolution (on my intel 915 graphis controller). this means i have to add this resolution to the possible resolutions. first i used cvt

Code:

cvt 1280 720 60

and got this result:

Quote:

# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

then i added this to xrandr

Code:

xrandr --verbose --newmode "1280x720" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

and

Code:

xrandr --verbose --addmode VGA1 1280x720

now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

Ubuntu Installation :: Error - Sil: Only 3/4 Metadata /dev/sda

Nov 4, 2010

When i did my initial install of ubuntu 10.04 server i was using a PCI SIL SATA controller, and i chose the hardware raid 1 setup.. After installation i talked it over with a few colleagues and we decided software raid would better suit our needs. With that being said, I removed the controller and directly connected the disks to the SATA ports on that mobo. At that point, I re-ran the ubuntu server install going through the manual software raid 1 setup.

After completion during restart I receiver two errors:
Error: sil: only 3/4 metadata /dev/sda
Error: sil: only 3/4 metadata /dev/sdb

I assume this is in regards to the hardware configuration with the card, but since the card is no longer installed, and the system was reinstalled i'm having one hell of a time figuring out where this info is stored.

My software raid1 has been running strong for a couple weeks now without issue, so i'd like to resolve this startup error. Its more of annoyance since the system starts.

General :: Save Iptables When Iptables-save Doesn't Exist?

Apr 14, 2011

I'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.

I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:

/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables

I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.

"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.

how I can save the iptables?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox Metadata / ID3 Tags - Rights?

Nov 5, 2010

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 using Rhythmbox (0.12. as my favorite music player. Right now I'm cleaning up my music collection. Part of this job is to ID3-tag multiple files (artist, genre, etc.).

On some files this works great, ob others it doesn't and I get a gstreamer error or I cannot even change the current ID3-tags. Regarding the last problem, I assume that the problem might occur because of missing rights to edit ID3-tags.

So my question is: What permissions should I give to my music collection, so Rhythmbox is able to edit the files?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Make Digikam Reload Metadata?

Jul 20, 2011

Not sure if this is the right forum for this -- photo software. I have been using DigiKam for a while now, and now that my photo collection has 10,000 some photos, I figure I ought to start tagging them before it gets really out of hand. I am not particularly fond of the DigiKam tagging interface, so I tried to use Geeqie to tag my photos and write the tags to the XMP keywords field, thinking that Digikam would read the metadata and tag my photos accordingly. I have confirmed that Geeqie is indeed writing the tags to the metadata of the photos, but there seems to be no way to get digikam to reload the metadata for files already in its library. Is there any way to make digikam see these tags written by another application, short of re-importing all my photos?

Ubuntu Installation :: How I Removed RAID Metadata From Hard Disks

I had a couple of IDE hard disks that had previously been set up as a RAID1 array.I wanted to re-format and use them as separate independent hard disks but Ubuntu reported that they were part of a RAID array. This is how I removed that RAID metadata from the drives. With both drives connected I booted up Ubuntu 10.10 Live CD.

I checked the device names via System, Administration, Disk Utility - they were listed as /dev/sda and /dev/sdbI also noted that there was an extra device with name of /dev/md-0 which was the RAID array. Then I rebooted the PC, and checked the device names via System, Administration, Disk Utility - no more /dev/md-0 and the two drives no longer showed as part of a RAID array.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox Metadata Loss After Directory Rename

Jan 29, 2011

Rhythmbox seems unable to handle a directory rename. My problem is the following:

1. Create a playlist in Rhythmbox with some songs in it.
2. Close Rhythmbox.
3. Rename the directory with the songs in it.
4. Open Rhythmbox.
5. The songs are gone from Rhythmbox' index and can be found under "Missing Files". New versions of the songs show up, but this is not very helpful, as the playlist is empty.

I searched the web and found a known bug which occurs if step 2 is left out (that is, a directory rename with Rhythmbox open). However, in my case, even changing a directory name without Rhythmbox running breaks its file index.
