Ubuntu :: Xrandr Doesn't Save Changes - How To Make It To Save Changes

Jun 16, 2010

my mediacenter is attached to an beamer with the optimal resolution of 1280*720 ubuntu 10.04 doesnt offer me this revolution (on my intel 915 graphis controller). this means i have to add this resolution to the possible resolutions. first i used cvt

Code:

cvt 1280 720 60

and got this result:

Quote:

# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

then i added this to xrandr

Code:

xrandr --verbose --newmode "1280x720" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

and

Code:

xrandr --verbose --addmode VGA1 1280x720

now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

General :: Save Iptables When Iptables-save Doesn't Exist?

Apr 14, 2011

I'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.

I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:

/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables

I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.

"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.

how I can save the iptables?

Ubuntu :: How To Make Filezilla Save To External Hdd

Jan 31, 2010

Installed Filezilla FTP-client, and wants to save the downloaded files to my external OneTouch4 HDD. In Windows, you've got letters for different drives, like c: d: and so on. I understand my external HDD is /dev/sdb1/ in Ubuntu (9.1). My local place is just called "/" in Filezilla,I guess this refers to my root.It shows different folders, like bin, boot, cdrom, dev etc. When I try to type in /dev/sdb1/ here, I just get an error saying it does'n exist, or cannot be accessed.

PS: My external hdd is mounted, it has its own icon on the desktop.

CentOS 5 :: Make VLC Save Brightness Setting?

Apr 25, 2009

Totem didn't play .avi movies by default after my new CentOS 5.3 install. In my effort to find a way to fix it I learned in another forum that installing VLC allows almost all video formats to be played. So I added RPMForge to my repository group then I found and installed VLC with no problem.

Now that VLC is installed and I've had a chance to use it, I've learned that it fails to save my brightness setting between launches. This is very frustrating because the default brightness is always too dark, which means I have to go to the controls and reset it every time I launch the software. Does anyone here know how I can save my brightness setting between launches?

Ubuntu :: Music File Information Editing Doesn't Save

Apr 5, 2010

I have some japanese music files stored on a flash drive that the titles of which are in japanese originally. While in the flash drive, when I go to Properties -> Audio, the title is written in japanese. It does not allow me to edit the file, no matter what permissions I have on it, therefore I can't change the name to english. So, I tried Rhythmbox instead, and transfered the file there. I could change the name, however there is STILL a huge problem.

I have around 300 japanese music files, all of which have to be renamed into english.
I did all this for all of them in Rhythmbox, and clicked "quit" when I was done. When I came back to transfer the files to my MP3 player like usual, I opened Rhythmbox, and...

ALL OF THE FILES WERE STILL IN JAPANESE! It didn't save any of the work I did on editing them. But, I calmed down and thought "oh, you can save playlists! I am sure that if I save them on one, it will keep the edits!" I did this, and it saved nothing. It took me 2 hours to finish the renaming, just to find out that it can't save information edits at all.

General :: System Crash Doesn't Save Info To Kern.log

Jul 23, 2010

I am currently creating a usb device driver consisting of mostly read and write commands. It can successfully read/write using the bulk endpoints, however reading from the interrupt endpoint causes a system crash. As the crash happens whilst writing to kern.log, the file doesn't get a chance to close, therefore done of my debug printk calls are saved. Also, I get know response from using the magic sysrq key.

Does anyone have an ideas on how I can get any system information about what's causing the crash, or possible causes of the crash. (Using a usb sniffer running on another pc, I can see that the packet is coming in from the interrupt endpoint).

Ubuntu :: Make An Image Of Windows Partition To Save Time And Effort When Wanting To Restore?

Aug 6, 2010

Am quite new to Ubuntu (10.04) and have recently reinstalled XP. I want to make an image of my windows partition to save time and effort when wanting to restore this. I read the Ubuntu documentation on Drive Imaging [URL]..community/DriveImaging and am wondering if I've done things ok?

I've booted using the Live CD. Windows is on sda1 and is a 50GB partition. I have a hidden ntfs partition on the same hard drive at sda9 of 10GB. The first time I tried this I got an error regarding my output file saying "Not a directory". I'm assuming that was because I hadn't mounted sda9. It also reported an error saying permission denied on sda1. I then mounted sda9

Code:
sudo mount /dev/sda9 /mnt

I then changed to root as I thought not being in that was why I was getting the permissions error.

Code:
sudo -s
I've then done the following;
Code:
dd if=/dev/sda1 bs=1024 | gzip > /mnt/sda1.bin.gz

The terminal window is just showing a flashing cursor in the bottom left corner under the above command line input. Is the fact that my mount partition being smaller than my windows partition going to cause a problem or will gzip solve that? My Windows install occupies about 7.5GB of the 50GB partion.

I'm not sure if dd is just taking a long time to complete the task???

Debian Multimedia :: Nvidia-settings Doesn't Save Across Reboots - Jessie 64bit

Dec 12, 2015

I had some issues with nvidia drivers, and removed all of the packages using

Code: Select allrm /etc/X11/xorg.conf and Code: Select allapt-get purge nvidia*

Upon reboot, I was back with nouveau drivers and proceeded to reinstall nvidia drivers according to [URL] .....

Code: Select allapt-get install nvidia-driver
apt-get install nvidia-xconfig
I can then change my refresh rate using
Code: Select allnvidia-settings
but when I hit "Save to X configuration file", I get the following output in terminal:
Code: Select allroot@debian:/home/anon# nvidia-settings
Package xorg-server was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xorg-server.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xorg-server' found

As a result, my nvidia preferences aren't saved across reboot.

Here are all of my sources:
