View 1 RepliesI upgraded from Ubuntu Desktop 10.04 to Ubuntu Studio 10.04 and running a dual boot system with Windows. On the grub screen there are four listings now for Ubuntu. Two recover modes and two ubuntu modes. Is this normal? Going to reboot and see if I can get a picture of it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 a few days ago.Sometimes when I am typing on (USB) keyboard random key starts to repeat, as if I am holding it down (but I am not). Repetition stops when I press some other key. This is happening randomly. Sometimes 3 times in 5 minutes, sometimes once in 2 hours. I feel like it's load dependent (it occurs more often under higher load).Does anyone have idea how to get rid of it? It is really annoying.I have tried several keyboards to prove it is not hardware issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI updated my computer yesterday and ever since when I delete something from my second hard drive it no longer goes into the trash. It not only does that but does not release disk space so now I have a blocked hard drive. I have tried deleting .trash-1000 as root but that only created a folder called .trash-0 and did not do anything. I am running kubuntu lucid lynx kernel ver. 2.6.32-31-generic

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to announce the release of cmus 2.3.0 here. cmus 2.3.0 features gapless MP3 playback, native PulseAudio output plugin (which cures all the problems with PA ALSA emulation present in 2.2.0), very fast metadata cache and much improved compilations handling.
Not to mention tons of bugfixes since 2.2.0, which was released almost 3 years ago.[URL]..
I am thinking about upgrading my home computer to the beta. Having been burned by Microsoft's RC program and reloading my kids computers, I wondering if I will be able to move to the final release when it comes out at the end of the month. If the upgrade path from Beta->LTS is a complete reinstall, I'll wait.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to let everyone know that the latest 11.6 Catalyst driver has been released.I would like everyone to know that I have successfully installed the ATI drivers in gnome, but lost the usability of gnome-shell and automatically dropped back to the basic Gnome desktop. But I still have a usable system.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou can get the 64 bit version 270.41.19 of the nVIDIA proprietary Video Driver from this link:[URL]..
And the new video driver from nVIDIA no longer is outputting any error message when it is installed as was the case with 270.41.6. So, it is worth a try I do believe to go with the new version. I have a bash script that can be helpful in installing this driver if you would like to use it. Read about lnvhw from here: LNVHW - Load NVIDIA (driver the) Hard Way from runlevel 3
In Ubuntu I could do this in the Updates tab of Software Sources, but in Linux Mint there is no Updates tab. I just want to install kernel version 2.6.38-9.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running CentOS 5.4 and noticed that for the past month there haven't been any new updates showing up either on 'yum check-update' or 'yum update' (I'm interested in basic and security updates). Although this may be right, I wonder if there is an online reference where I can check the updates that are released for CentOS (security bulletins) and make sure if there is anything wrong with my update system.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just got my 10.04 LTS CD from Canonical.
I was too impatient and upgraded to 10.04. The up-gradation was not without its flaws, but I have worked around a number of issues and I am happily working on it now.
I have installed a number of other software on the 10.04 upgraded version like Eclipse, GATE (NLP software), BasKet Notes, Thunderbird etc. If I install the LTS version will I have to re-download and install all of these things? Or is it portable?
I use only Linux on my laptop and so the stability is very important.
Was enjoying ubuntu 9.10 without any issues then foolishly thought an upgrade to 10.04 would be a good idea but since hav`nt been able use the internet on my linux pc due to connection problems using a 3g dongle.Thats another issue altogether what i wanted to ask here was in the terminal i keep getting [sudo] password for rjb: but then im not able to type anything
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded a week ago to ubuntu 10.10 (amd64). I was unable to boot in 2.6.35-22 so I have been using 2.6.32-25. I tried again last night after installing updates to 2.6.35-22. Still no luck.I gave up since this was much like what happened a week ago and I couldn't find any solutions then. (I ran memtest then.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe software manager has been nagging me to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 for some time now. I finally gave in and clicked on Upgrade. After the upgrade completed, my computer won't start. It just flashes Ubuntu for a split second and goes to a black screen. I happen to have the 10.04 CD from Canonical, and I tried that, and it won't launch the installer either; just a logo and a black screen. Since I can't even get to the terminal to diagnose and fix whatever's wrong, I'm installing 9.10 from the CD that I ordered from Canonical a long time ago. I went through all the graphical options just like the first time I installed 9.10, and it's in the process of installing right now.
I don't really have time to futz with it because I need my laptop for when I go and visit my mum for Thanksgiving. Maybe I'll try after the holidays if I can get some feedback on what might have gone wrong with 10.04.
The title says it all. I am using an Acer Aspire laptop that I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 today. There is no backlight. What's the fix?
View 9 Replies View RelatedA couple of weeks ago I connected my desktop to the internet and upgraded Ubuntu. I haven't used it since then, until today, when I took the ethernet cord out of my laptop and stuck in in the desktop. The light next to the place you plug the cord in came on and Ubuntu tried to connect, but eventually it just said "You are now disconnected." I restarted and it continued to do this. I plugged the ethernet cord into the laptop and now I am online. What is going on here??

I did the update from within 9.10 to 10.4. Now when Ubuntu boots up, something happens and it goes to busybox. I tried sitting there and waiting, but nothing happened. So I tried typing exit, and then about a minute or two later it finally finished booting.
It's real nice that everyone else is reporting 20-30 second boot times, but before with 9.10 my boot time was around 60 seconds or so, and now it's around 5 minutes. So how can I fix this? Is there a way to post the boot log here? Where would it be located at on my computer?
