Apr 15, 2010I'm currently on Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2, is it on the safer side to reinstall ubuntu all over again when it's released or it doesn't make any difference ?

View 9 RepliesI am thinking about upgrading my home computer to the beta. Having been burned by Microsoft's RC program and reloading my kids computers, I wondering if I will be able to move to the final release when it comes out at the end of the month. If the upgrade path from Beta->LTS is a complete reinstall, I'll wait.

I already installed Namoroka, which is 3.6.1pre. Is there a repository I can add for this? I will already have to remove one of my repositories and remove firefox.

My question is - WHEN THE FINAL VERSION OF UBUNTU 10.04 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, IS IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ? OR WILL UPDATING OR UPGRADING VIA THE system ---- administration --- update manager will upgrade my current beta version to the final release ???
I wished to use qinternet under openSUSE 11.3 to control multiple interfaces (a mixture of internet/intranet, DHCP/static IP), so I applied the same settings/tests which were successful for kinternet under open/SUSE 11.2: Selected options within Yast2/Network Settings: Traditional Method with ifupEnable Device Control for Non-root User Via QinternetYast2/System/System Services(RunLevel)/smpppd = "yes" From command line terminal:
[Code]....
Default state indicated by different icons. Interface option brought up by right-mouse-clicking on the qinternet/kinternet panel icon and choosing Settings/Various Settings/Startup tab. Note: Regardless of whether qinternet was running or not, internet communications via the relevant network interface still worked.
In case the failure of qinternet/smpppd was simply a PolicyKit issue, I edited /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf to ensure that the relevant user had the necessary privilege to run smpppd (I assume that qinternet can be ignored since it is just the front end for smpppd) e.g.
[Code]....
This made no difference, SO FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES ONLY, I logged in as root after first removing the power from the network switches externally connected to each network interface (isolating the local host). I then ran qinternet but once again, the Interface option was greyed out. This confirmed fairly conclusively that lack of privilege was not responsible for the qinternet/smpppd problem.
GNOME3 has released anyone succeed install it on ubuntu 10.10??..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI ran Ubuntu 9.10 back in the days and when 10.04 Beta 1 was released I upgraded it by using the update-manager -d. My question is, if I use the upgrade-manager -d feature will it be like an actual beta 2 when it gets released and later on will it be the same as the full final version. Or must I do a complete re-installation if I want to run the final version of 10.04?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSomehow I've been really unlucky with Ubuntu 10.10. When I run the CD choose any of the three options offered by Grub, the system just waits for 20-30 seconds and gives me a screen with Green squares.
Here's a video I made when 10.10 was in beta. The problem is still the same even in the final version. http://www.......com/watch?v=KKiks45jMEU
I have an Intel Dual Core 2.0Ghz PC with 8GB ram and an Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card. I have Ubuntu 10.04 on it which installs and works fine. its only the 10.10 that I have this problem with.
Any ideas out there?
I can't install Ubuntu 11.04 32bit Desktop edition on my Dell Mini 10v. I followed the instructions from the Ubuntu website and made a bootable USB drive using the universal USB installer for windows. I put the usb drive on my netbook and prompted the boot options to boot from the usb drive. Once I got to the installation screen and attempt to install ubuntu on my hard drive it goes blank for a few moments, and a wall of text floods my screen and it stops installing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently running 11.2 on my PC and have been doing so since it was released with no problems. When I try and install from my DVD (MD5sum and media verified) all goes well until the installer gets to the "searching for linux partitions" bit and then it dies completely. I have tried installing from a KDE and GNOME live CD and they both boot cleanly and load a usable desktop in both cases with internet access and all my Windows and openSUSE 11.2 partitions visible and browsable.
When I try to install from either of these discs Yast2 gets loaded and then just dies. I am at a total loss as to how to progress any further. Incidentally Fedora 13 won't install either so I suspect it is a kernel issue as my hardware has not changed since I installed openSUSE 11.2. I have been using SUSE since 10.0 and have never has any problems installing before now.
I'm still using Firefox 4 beta11, how to upgrade to ff 4 final? I'm using openSUSE 11.3 (tried to install 11.4 but live-cd won't run on my nvidia graphic)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 a few days ago.Sometimes when I am typing on (USB) keyboard random key starts to repeat, as if I am holding it down (but I am not). Repetition stops when I press some other key. This is happening randomly. Sometimes 3 times in 5 minutes, sometimes once in 2 hours. I feel like it's load dependent (it occurs more often under higher load).Does anyone have idea how to get rid of it? It is really annoying.I have tried several keyboards to prove it is not hardware issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYou can get the 64 bit version 270.41.19 of the nVIDIA proprietary Video Driver from this link:[URL]..
And the new video driver from nVIDIA no longer is outputting any error message when it is installed as was the case with 270.41.6. So, it is worth a try I do believe to go with the new version. I have a bash script that can be helpful in installing this driver if you would like to use it. Read about lnvhw from here: LNVHW - Load NVIDIA (driver the) Hard Way from runlevel 3
