I absoultely cannot figure this out... No matter which browser (FireFox, FireFox4, Seamonkey, etc) I try to use, I always get this error message:
Replace "seamonkey" with whichever browser stated previously.

You can get the 64 bit version 270.41.19 of the nVIDIA proprietary Video Driver from this link:[URL]..
And the new video driver from nVIDIA no longer is outputting any error message when it is installed as was the case with 270.41.6. So, it is worth a try I do believe to go with the new version. I have a bash script that can be helpful in installing this driver if you would like to use it. Read about lnvhw from here: LNVHW - Load NVIDIA (driver the) Hard Way from runlevel 3

Although I use the system's default version of Firefox (v3.6), I wanted to give the Firefox4 beta a test drive, so I downloaded it from Mozilla and extracted it into my ~/bin directory. However it seems that Firefox4 is not able to pick-up the plugins installed for the system version. All the plugins currently installed for Firefox3.6 are in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/, with a couple of symlinks to other places, so I can't figure out why the beta is not able to find them. I thought /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ was a standard directory for Firefox plugins on Linux.
I also tried copying one plugin (Flash) file from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ to ~/.mozilla/plugins/ and to ~/bin/firefox/plugins/, but still Firefox4 is not finding it. Aboutlugins is blank, as is the plugins tab of the Add-on manager.I'm using the same profile for both Firefox3.6 and Firefox4. Is this fine, or should I create a separate profile for use with the beta version?
P.S. For what it's worth, my system is a 64-bit one, running 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10.

This used to work by default in previous versions of FF.
imdb $movie
wiki $some_topic
now they don't.
My personal favorite was
man $page
Open about:config and search for keyword.URL - it should be blank. Double-click to edit and enter
Code:
[URL] This will restore the previous Firefox keyword search behavior. No restart necessary.

For compatibility reasons, a developer do not always need the newest software version that just poped up on the market.
In my case, right now, the WebDriver Test our Selenium Test framework doesn't work on Firefox5 that i automatically got thanks the Ubuntu Update manager. I had to search few hours on Internet and finally ask a more experimented college which told me about this solution:
first of all, uninstall firefox5:
Code:
sudo aptitude purge firefox
then, you can list the available software versions : sudo apt-cache policy <software_name>
Code:
msauvette@msauvette:~$ sudo apt-cache policy firefox
firefox:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 4.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu3
[code]....

I'm trying to use Debian Stable with some newer upstream packages. I've got the upstream Firefox tarball unbacked in /home/firefox/. The problem is that it can't find any plugins, flash or anything else. It's the 64 bit binary but still needed some 32 bit libraries to run. Does it need 32 bit plugins?
Iceweasel is uninstalled and and I deleted it's ./mozilla/ directory. I tried creating a /home/.mozilla/plugins/ directory and symlinking plugins into that and pretty much any other conceivable path where it could be looking for them.
I run upstream firefox from /home/ in the past and had no problems.

I've upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 a few days ago.Sometimes when I am typing on (USB) keyboard random key starts to repeat, as if I am holding it down (but I am not). Repetition stops when I press some other key. This is happening randomly. Sometimes 3 times in 5 minutes, sometimes once in 2 hours. I feel like it's load dependent (it occurs more often under higher load).Does anyone have idea how to get rid of it? It is really annoying.I have tried several keyboards to prove it is not hardware issue.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the latest 11.6 Catalyst driver has been released.I would like everyone to know that I have successfully installed the ATI drivers in gnome, but lost the usability of gnome-shell and automatically dropped back to the basic Gnome desktop. But I still have a usable system.

I updated my computer yesterday and ever since when I delete something from my second hard drive it no longer goes into the trash. It not only does that but does not release disk space so now I have a blocked hard drive. I have tried deleting .trash-1000 as root but that only created a folder called .trash-0 and did not do anything. I am running kubuntu lucid lynx kernel ver. 2.6.32-31-generic

What are the chances of super smart phones being released?Devices which look like normal smart phones, but have the ability to run a full blown linux distro like ubuntu and have the power to play 1080p files, which also come with docking stations so you can plugin an external display, usb keyboard and mouse, so at home, it can be used as a normal desktop PC...Possibly using the ION based NVIDIA GPU with dual core 64bit processor!

I'd like to announce the release of cmus 2.3.0 here. cmus 2.3.0 features gapless MP3 playback, native PulseAudio output plugin (which cures all the problems with PA ALSA emulation present in 2.2.0), very fast metadata cache and much improved compilations handling.
Not to mention tons of bugfixes since 2.2.0, which was released almost 3 years ago.[URL]..

I am thinking about upgrading my home computer to the beta. Having been burned by Microsoft's RC program and reloading my kids computers, I wondering if I will be able to move to the final release when it comes out at the end of the month. If the upgrade path from Beta->LTS is a complete reinstall, I'll wait.

Is there a way to disable all popup notifications in openSUSE while still having it check for updates periodically. What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.
Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.

I'm running CentOS 5.4 and noticed that for the past month there haven't been any new updates showing up either on 'yum check-update' or 'yum update' (I'm interested in basic and security updates). Although this may be right, I wonder if there is an online reference where I can check the updates that are released for CentOS (security bulletins) and make sure if there is anything wrong with my update system.
