Ubuntu :: Run Starcraft 2 From The Installation Folder - Error "doesn't Have Permission To Run As An Executable"

Jul 23, 2011

I'm trying to run Starcraft 2 from the installation folder I kept from my previous windows install, and when I double-click the .exe I get an error that says it doesn't have permission to run as an executable. So I checked out the properties page, permissions tab, and for some ungodly reason none of the changes I make stick. The second I click the check box for "Run as an exectuable" it unchecks. I have no idea what to do and I've scoured the net looking for an answer. I'd prefer to avoid redownloading it (didn't buy the retail version) but it's looking like my only option at this point.

Ubuntu Installation :: Non Executable Memory Error When Enter /usr/bin/check-bios?

Apr 1, 2011

I have decided to load the OS on a old HP Compaq DX2000 MT to see if its for me before putting it on my main machine.

I loaded Ubuntu version 10.10 last night everything was fine except I could not get my wireless adapter to work, I decided to connect via ethernet to get the latest updates and drivers.

After the updates and restart I now get the non executable memory error. when I enter
/usr/bin/check-bios-nx --verbose

I am told I have NX capabilities and should go to the bios and enable it. There is nothing in
the bios to enable as far as I can see. So I enter the command

sudo rm /etc/update-motd.d/20-cpu-checker

Ubuntu Installation :: Windows Vista - 9.10 Installation Error - Permission Denied?

Jan 4, 2010

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. My specs far exceed the requirements to install, so I know there's no problem there.On installation I receive an error somewhat through that says something like:Quote:An error occured:Permission deniedFor more information, please see the log file:C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTempwubi-9.10ubuntu1-rev160.logSo.... I go to that file, and the last line in it is:Quote:OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso'I did run Wubi Installer as an Administrator, and unblocked it giving it full privileges.It's really annoying because my download speed is 80kb/s so it takes about 3 hours to download. During that 3 hours I can't use my internet so I have to wait, and wait, and wait, and then boom.error. And wubi can't pick up where it left off, you have to uninstall to reinstall, which sucks tremendously.

General :: Why Would Executable Say It Doesn't Exist / When Try To Run It?

Sep 28, 2010

I have a compiled program, a tagger to identify parts of text, which claims it does not exist.This executable has to be called by a generated script, which is how I ran into this issue. What are the reasons this error could show up?The executable was copied from another machine.The file does have execution privileges (it gives a proper not-allowed message without them)I've tried copying the file to a different location (same problem)I've tried replacing the file with a fresh copy (same problem)The file does exist. Opening it with pico shows a file with binary data.

OpenSUSE :: Dolphin: Unable To Add The Permission "Is Executable" To The File: Eclipse

Jul 24, 2011

I'm trying to get Eclipse IDE running on my openSUSE 11.4 (KDE).

I have downloaded Eclipse Classic from Eclipse Classic 3.7 | Eclipse Packages. I started Dolphin and extracted the tar.gz file to a directory called eclipse. Now, as I understand, to run Eclipse, I must run the executable eclipse. But when I double-click eclipse, I get an error saying, "There is no application installed that can open files of the type executable (application/x-executable)."

Note 1: I have uploaded 3 screenshots as an album at Imgur: Eclipse with image titles and captions.

According to the screenshot #1, the file eclipse has a permission set of -rw-------. The execute permission is missing on this file. So, here's what I did: (screenshot #2) Right-clicked and selected Properties and under the Permissions tab, checked the Is executable checkbox and clicked OK. But still (screenshot #3), the permission set remains the same.

Note 2: The parent directory permissions are visible in the Terminal window below in all the screenshots.

What should I do to make eclipse executable?

Ubuntu :: Share File Permission \ Some One Copy Their File In This Folder The Permission Is Marked As "no Group" "no Owner"?

May 18, 2011

I'm using ubuntu 11.04, I'm having some problem of ownership while sharing folder/files. to share i change the folder share option:1. Share this folder, then followed by 2.allow others to create and delete files in this folder3. guest access.Now if someone in my local network edit any file and save it, it gets locked. if some one copy their file in this folder the permission is marked as "no group" "no owner". and they get unaccessible to me. i tried doing chown <user> <folder> but it says Operation not permitted. Now how i can possibly share my folder on local network so that they can be edited by others without getting locked down , if they copy files i can able to modify them.

General :: Executable File Apparently Doesn't Exist When Trying To Execute With Bash

May 9, 2011

I downloaded a program called tonespace http://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/ which I extracted and then tried to execute the executable file with ./tonespace. This gives me the following message:

bash: ./tonespace: No such file or directory

When I use the command: file ./tonespace I get this: tonespace: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, stripped

I dont get it. The file is clearly there, yet when trying to execute it bash doesn't seem to recognize it.

It has permissions rwxr-xr-x and is not owned by root. Am I overlooking something?

Programming :: Re-mapping Stdio For A Fork'd/exec'd Executable Doesn't Seem To Behave

Jan 27, 2011

I have a monitoring program ( GIT link to sourceforge ) which I'm trying to use to track when a child exits/dies/whatever. I'm calling fork(), then close for 0,1,2, and then opening /dev/null, monitored.stdout, and monitored.stderr as a replacement. I'm not sure if I've done something incorrect (perhaps I should use dup2 for explicit assignment?) but it appears that printf() messages are just being blackholed. I've tried setting the line buffering as a last ditch effort. On a different system, using code similar to the spawn_monitor() function, this appears to work fine, which makes me think I'm relying on some implementation specific detail.

Relevant function, for those who don't click links:

Code:

26 int spawn_monitored(char *argv[])
27 {
28 int exit = 0;
29 pid_t child;
30 const struct rlimit inf = {

Ubuntu :: Accidental Permission Change To 'none' On Folder?

Mar 13, 2010

A rather new user here, was messing with the preferences on a user folder of mine on Karmic, looking for a way to make the folder invisible to users (like the old windows option). Set it to 'none', then closed it, returned to the directory finding the folder with a box with an 'x' on it.

Went to open it, it says 'access denied'. So I think 'okay, how do I undo that', go back to see if I can restore it back to 'read & write' with no sucess.

Seached the forums for a solution to this issue, most of solutions revolve around 'gksudo nautilus' which I attempted to open via command-line. Nothing seemed pop open after I entered my password in responce to entering said command-line, probably because I really don't know how to use Nautilus.
