Flash is having really trouble in firefox, it works in chrome on the other hand. You can see the large white boxes that randomly appear while flash plays.Thunderbird's lightning fails to install and gives this error.
System Spec's
OpenSuse 11.4 64bit
Intel i3 CPU and Graphic's
4 GB of ram
Webcam (working)

All I do is connect my Palm to the usb port, and it starts a reset loop. It resets, gets booted, and crashes to reset again. What's up with this? BTW, this same palm worked with gnome pilot on Debian and Vector installs, and works currently with an XP install. But on my 11.2 suse, it goes crazy.

I was able to write a script on Linux Shell for send and read data to a serial port. But Im facing a problem now. If by any mean I send to de device anything else than the predefined strings, stated by the manufacturer, the device ceases to respond. The only way I found its to turn off and then turn on the thing again. Which its very impractical. Its there any way to "reset de UART chip on the device" or send some string based on the RS232 standard that clean the device buffer?

I noticed there're lots of "usb 3-1: reset low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2" warnings in two of our server's syslog. They occur roughly every 20min. The server is a Dell R710 with CentOS 5.4 X86_64 installed. I suspect it's the virtual CD device of the iDrac6 but not sure. How Can I identify which USB device triggering these warning? The related syslog is as following:
Code:
Apr 13 23:32:47 bak2 kernel: usb 3-1: reset low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Apr 13 23:42:44 bak2 kernel: usb 2-3: USB disconnect, address 3
Apr 13 23:45:53 bak2 kernel: usb 2-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4

I have 4 Dell R200's with Seagate 2x250Gb drives running software raid on CentOS 5.2 kernal 2.6.18-92.1.13.el5. They all get these errors 5-10 times a day and when the errors occure the servers apear to freeze and drop all network connections, very frustrating. I've updated to smartmontools 1:5.38-2.el5 and confirmed with Seagate that I have the latest drive firmware, and am now at a loss as to how to fix this. All of the systems report the problem only on sda not sdb.

I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware

every now and then, one of my customers forgets his windows user password, and asks me to reset it. till now i used a small windows app called "Password Renew for NT" from a windows PE bootdisk, but i want to have an alternative that runs on my opensuse 11.4 box, so i can connect the windows hard drive on it and reset the password from suse.
I found and the program "chntpw" in the build service, but it seems on beta status. And most information i found of it is very outdated. Has anyone used it? does it work ok on all modern windows versions (xp, vista and 7)? any other alternatives you can recomend?

I had a machine with 11.3, and tested 11.4 live CD. It looked good, network worked and so did compiz. But then I installed, and I can't see any wireless networks, the screen flickers and compis doesn't work. Is there any way to simple reset all settings so that they become the live-cd settings?

Whenever I restart my system, the screen resolution has been reset to 1600 x 1200. I change it in "configure desktop" and it's ok for the session but it changes back on reboot. Also, the font sizes are too small for xterms. Sure, I can ctrl+ to increase but why should I have to do this each time I login? I noticed others seem to be having this problem. Is there an upgrade that will fix this? I'm using 11.2 and kde.

I'm running 10.3, KDE, 32bit. I am working with a fresh install. The updater stated that I had updates , I accepted the updates. At this point the updater failed in some way. It did not become a zombi but stalled. I quit the updater. Now when I try and get online updates using the sys tray updater it sais none available. When I use yast online update it has some recommended updates but does not install them. I rebuilt the rpm data base and this did not help.
How can I "reset" the updater. I believe that it thinks that it did go thru the updates and therefor cant see that they still need attention.

I'm new to Linux, tried Ubuntu, had slow boot problems, tried openSUSE 11.1, still have slow boot problems. The issue seems to be that the ata.0 device is slow to respond (ERROR= -16), the boot system forces a hard reset, then a soft reset, configures for UDMA 133, says the drive is ready, then does it again, three times, and then configures the drive for UDMA 100. It's a brand new Western Digital Caviar drive, and windowsXP likes it just fine. Once SUSE boots, everything seems to work just fine. I thought the problem might be with the drive jumpers, so I reset them from cable detect to master/single. No change in the problem.

I installed Open Suse 11.3 LXDE from the live CD I downloaded. My monitor settings reset to the highest resolution on every shutdown/reboot. Other settings like my wallpaper and removing the lock screen on screensaver also reset.
Is this there anything I can do to get settings/changes I make to stay?

This is just a nit, but I have noticed that whenever the kernel is updated, the background picture that I have set up for the login screen seems to be reset to "default_blue". No other setting seems to be disturbed.
After each update, I have to go into Configure Desktop->Login manager and set my background picture again. Why is this happening? Is there a way to fix this?
I am running Suse 11.3, KDE v4.4.4.

I have a dual boot system: windows xp and suse(10.2). I had to reinstall windows(again). When I tried to use the installer, it kept reseting my partitions to 500gb+ to linux. Nothing I tried would let me put it to the way it was(50gb to linux). Repair install failed. Update wouldn't work. MSwindows in the grub boot menu disappeared. I tried reinstalling suse. The installer blocked any attempt by me to put the partitions back to normal. How do reset the windows and linux partitions(850gb windows, 50gb to suse linux)?

I've been trying to get multiple monitors going on my laptop (thru the HDMI port) and did fairly well, but the ribbon/panel/whatever (at the bottom of the screen with launcher, etc.) is now gone and I can't find it (even with zoom-out). At first it was only gone when I disconnected the external monitor, but was present when both monitors were attached. Now it's always gone. Is there a magic reset-the-desktop to default (without reinstall) command?

I upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3 and works great except two problems.
1. it was installed on Thinkpad W500, and its sleep mode doesn't work, the computer cannot wake up from sleep mode.
2. After a hard reset due to stuck at sleep mode, the KDE network manager couldn't find any network interface anymore, even I tired to disable and enable "user Controlled with NetworkManager in Network Settings, still same problem. it always say "network management disabled" regardless the network manager checkbox status in Network Settings. On the other hand, Traditional Method with ifup can detect the my wireless and ethernet ports and work under ifup method.
so does anyone has idea about
1. how to configure the sleep mode for laptop?
2. how to bring back the network manager again? (I have "user controlled with network manager" checked in network settings.

Suse 11.4 32bit. Formerly when I plugged in the first USB device it would be identified as /dev/sdb, my primary SATA drive being /dev/sda. The second USB device as /dev/sdc and so on. That has now changed so that the first USB device is /dev/sdc, second one /dev/sdd etc. This causes havoc with several backup scripts. How can I revert to previous assignments?

I get to this point, setting up everything (I can only do paravirtualization) Then the DVD spins for a little while and after that I am returned this error message "device 0 vif could not be connected opensuse....."
I tried a bunch of different settings in the previous screen and I always end up with this error I googled around and it seem to be a problem in different distros but I could not spot a solution at all

In my YaST Network Settings (11.3), I see an entry labelled "Unknown Network Device" how to remove the confusion? The Overview tab also correctly lists my three known network devices (listed below), as does the Hardware Information utility. This is the output of lspci, and as far as I can tell, is accurate and complete. So what has YaST seen that it can't identify?

Got an external harddisk and when inserting it into my desktop running openSUSE 11.2, dolphin will recognise it as /media/testing. Wanted to rename the device label from "testing" to "Backup". Googled and understand the way to do it is to issue this command e2label device new_label Mounting the external harddisk and issuing the above command returns
e2label: Is a directory while trying to open /media/testing/
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock. Without mounting the external harddisk and issuing the above command returns
e2label: No such file or directory while trying to open /media/testing/
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock. The command lsusb returns Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1058:1010 Western Digital Technologies, Inc. How can I figure out the device name (/dev/sdx) of this external harddisk?

I'm trying to mount my NAS device via NFS with suse 11.1, but up to now it failed. The NAS does support NFS, but it requires a UID and a user name and up to now I could not figure out the correct nfs mount options for that.
If I just make mount 192.168.0.2:/nas1 /mnt a get the error message "mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 192.168.0.2:/nas1". So can somebody please tell me the correct options for user name and user id which the mount should use. And, preferable the correct entry for the etc/fstab file to make this mount being executed automatically during startup. I studied the mount(8) and nfs manpages several times, but I do still have no idea how to make it.
