Ubuntu :: Removing Icons From Main Menu?

Aug 9, 2010

I'm trying to configure Ubuntu 10.04 for my personal tastes. I have already done a lot but I need help in continuing my endeavour., I come here, having Googled my query and receiving no help, to ask you lot.The icons on the main menu (the one that only has the black Ubuntu logo; not the default three menu one) looks simply vulgar so I want to remove them. I was able to do so in the past but now it eludes me. I think having the icons for everything looks unprofessional and cluttered. Is there a way I can remove those nasty icons from the menu?So it is clear, I'm talking about the Swiss Army knife, cards, and etc on the main menu and all the other icons on the sub-menus.

Ubuntu :: Removing Main Menu From Desktop?

Jun 8, 2010

I'm trying to set up my system(Ubuntu 10.04hat the main menu and its contents (application, places, system, etc) do not appear(or are hidden in such a way that the user cannot access it). This sounds counter-intuitive. I know. I tried deleting them by hand, but they reappear after every reboot. Is there a system file with preferences that I can edit or something else that can be done?

Ubuntu :: Get The Main Menu>Places Icons To Display The Appropriate Windows?

Nov 6, 2010

When I go to Main Menu>Places, nothing but Computer and Network works correctly. Choosing Main Menu>Places>Downloads, for instance, generates a little disk activity, but never displays a window with the contents of the Downloads directory. In an effort to fix the problem, I just upgraded from 10.4 to 1.10, but the same thing still happens. How do I get the Main Menu>Places icons to display the appropriate windows?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Removing Duplicate Nook Main Memory Folders In /media?

Oct 5, 2010

I have a Nook. When I plug it into the USB port on my system, a window pops up asking what I want to do with the new device. I can open it and access media/nook and move files into and out of the directory.

There's a button to "Safely dismount Nook" before I unplug it. I use that. Apparently, however, sometimes it doesn't respond. Now I have .hal-mtab-lock in my /media folder, along with Nook Main Memory and Nook Main Memory (1) folders. I can't delete any of them.

How do I a) delete these folders, and b) make sure it actually unmounts the device in the future?

Fedora :: Removing Icons From The Desktop?

I hate desktop icons and shortcuts. I don't ever need them, and they look wasteful and cluttery sitting there unused. Since everything is accessible from the menus, I would like to not have any icons on my desktop in Fedora 11. I have been playing around with the settings for days and can't find a way to make them disappear.

Debian :: Some Of The Icons On The Desktop Changed And All Of The Icons In The Drop Down Menu On The Bar At The Top Of The Screen Also Changed?

Jun 19, 2010

I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

I'm trying to make the Debian sub menu appear by clicking 'on' the Debian box in System -> Preferences -> Main Menu but when I exit the Debian sub menu doesn't appear. One post I found talked about ROOT owning the directories, but not sure if that is the case with me or not.

I last asked this four years ago and got a response with a very lengthy script that had to be run at boot time, in terminal mode.

Ubuntu :: Setup A Main Menu In Docky?

Oct 26, 2010

Alright so I recently started using Cardapio with the intent of replacing the panels with a single dock. The only thing left to do is to replace the docky icon with the cardapio menu. Apparently there is a key in the gconf-editor apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/DockyItem that can be used to change what the docky icon does. I am unable to find the folder DockyItems in the hierarchy. I added both the folder and the key but it makes no change. I'm using the latest Docky build and Ubuntu 10.10 so things may have changed since the write-ups on how to do this. Has anyone successfully added the menu functionality with the latest versions or at least figured out where the DockyItems went to? its the last thing I'm changing on my desktop... PS. Is there any way to add the notification area/user logout to the dock as well?
