Jul 16, 2010I recently uninstalled Epiphany, but the icon for it under Applications > Internet is still there. Is there any way I can remove it?

Fedora :: Removing An Icon From Applications Menu?
Aug 5, 2011I am using Fedora 15 Live CD and after I did Yum update there are 2 icons of google chrome showing in the applications menu and also there are few other icons I want to remove, is there a way to do that, I searched in system settings but there was nothing there?

May 10, 2010I have become very restless and irritated while trying to change the icon next to the applications tab on my top panel (I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop). I've tried multiple methods and have had no luck. I've used the Ubuntu Tweak option for changing the icon. It didn't work. I've attempted taking my custom one and changing it in the directory itself but I can't figure out how to change the permissions to allow me to do this.
I've used the terminal to replace the icons but once again I was not given permission. I've spent hours trying and trying to get this to work and I'm stumped. Now to note the problem of this only being for a certain theme. I changed the theme from my custom theme (the one I want to change that icon for) to the Ambiance theme. I opened up Ubuntu Tweak and tried using the simple icon changer button...it worked. I had just d/led updates for it so I switched back to my custom theme to try it and nothing.

My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

When I try marking some to remove in Synaptic, it comes up with a bunch of others that will be marked. Jul 2, 2010I want to change or remove some of the standard apps in Lubuntu -- WICD for network manager, take off PyNeighborhood, and a couple of other things. But when I go to do it through synaptic, I'm told I also have to remove the Lubuntu desktop. Which, obviously, I don't want to do. So, two questions: Is this just the metapackage, in which nothing will happen if it is removed? Or do I need make these changes through the command line?
I've been actually quite impressed with Lubuntu. It is working quite nicely on a 10- or 12-year-old Compaq Presario with 177 megs of memory and a Celeron process. The video lags a little, but the wireless, using a Netgear USB dongle, is terrific,

My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.

Dec 1, 2010I've just installed Squeeze with KDE. I was wondering what is the best way to remove some unwanted apps without breaking everything (I want to get rid of Kopete and a few other apps like Dragon Player as I don't use them)?
I tried to: apt-get remove kopete
but it said it wanted to remove a whole bunch of other stuff as well. (I'm a recent Fedora convert).

This sounds counter-intuitive. I know. I tried deleting them by hand,but they reappear after every reboot. Is there a system file with preferences that I can edit or something else that can be done?

Sep 9, 2010When I search using Places -> Search for Files..., there is an extra directory that shows up in the "Look in folder:" menu. This directory (jim) is unwanted and doesn't appear in the general Gnome menus (such as Places). The attached image of a screenshot shows what I mean.
I cannot figure out how to remove it in the search menu. Perhaps it was put there because I frequently search in that directory. Whatever the case, I'd like to get rid of it. Jan 9, 2011Have recently installed 10.10 and have several other OS' installed, as well as other NTFS (non-OS) partitions. After a couple of updates, my boot menu shows about 8 entries, whereas I should only have about 4... How is this fixed in Grub2?
Have installed Startup Manager, and there seems to be no option here...
Ubuntu :: Removing Item From Nautilus Places Menu - Not A Bookmark?
Aug 28, 2010I was trying to install Sim City 4 Deluxe when somehow through my mounting an un-mounting of the two ISO's nautilus decided to make an entry in the places menu. I've searched through the forums and most of what I'm finding is how to remove things like the network and desktop items.
Here are three screenshots showing what I mean. Number one shows the entry I am talking about, specifically the SC4DELUXE1 entry. Number two shows that just right clicking and selecting remove like many threads suggest does not work here as it is grayed out. Lastly number three, this is the error I'm given when I left click the entry.
I finally figured out how to fix this. I simply went into the disk utility. Under peripheral devices the unwanted device was listed. Click the check file system button after selecting the device. It reports back that the file system is not clean and removes the device.
Fedora :: Removing Entry From Places Menu
Mar 6, 2010I'm using Fedora 12 with Gnome and I have a slight problem with my places menu. I have entries in the list that I would like to remove, but cannot figure out how. I multiboot Fedora with Windows 7 and windows 98. My Places menus looks something like this:
Places
Code:
Home Folder
Desktop
Music .....
Now, if you notice there are 2 entries for both my 'Storage' and 'Windows 98' partitions. On of them will actually open up a window showing the contents of the partition, the other displays an error which basically says "Unable to mount, drive is already mounted". Right clicking on the entry has the same effect as left clicking, it just brings up the error message. They do not appear in the Bookmarks menu.

Jun 10, 2011How do I remove old kernels from the Fedora grub menu? I have three currently and I want to keep only one old version to fall back if I have any problems with the current one. When I was using Ubuntu, I had Ubuntu Tweak which had an option to clean up old kernels from the grub menu .. is there something similar for Fedora?
I'm using Fedora 15 32-bit with Gnome 3.
