Ubuntu :: Can't Remove A Shortcut Made By A Program

Jul 25, 2010

I recently installed Acetone ISO in the hopes of installing a program, but alas it doesn't do what I need it to (run the MDF file like a disk rather than showing all the files in it, and because this is a multi-disk thing I'm installing I'm kinda stuck now) and I noticed it would make a new virtual drive every time I mounted an image, and I wound up with four of them, and each one had its own shortcut on my desktop. Well, I removed the program and deleted the folder it created, but these shortcuts are still on my desktop. And they are UNTOUCHABLE!

The command line ls -al ~/Desktop/ will show everything on the desktop BUT THEM, they have no permissions, and cannot be moved, copied, or deleted, because Ubuntu can't find volume information on them. I reinstalled the program to see if anything would help, and I noticed that the drives would go away if I unmounted the image (I coulda sworn I told it to before, but it didn't want to...) but now these drives are errors to the program, and I still can't remove the shortcuts.

Slackware :: Get Rid Of All The Unneeded Dependencies When Remove A Program?

Jul 9, 2011

I'm using slackware 13.37 and I must say that I really like this distro and the biggest problem is the lack of dependency handling. This is something that bites you right away because you have this nice clean simple operating system but unless you really know what's dependent on what you have to install piles of stuff with lots of programs with duplicate functions. A minimal install option would be nice and I can see from some of the threads that even those with a good deal of experience have had a hard time doing a minimal install. I tried about ten times using different guides but I always ended up with something broken so now I have the full install running fine but with tons of stuff that I don't want or need including most of kde. Anyway, I don't think that the slackware people are going to change their minds about dependency handling anytime this century.

Although for those who have said that it's a FEATURE, I'd point out that all distros have this feature, JUST DON'T USE THEIR PACKAGE MANAGER! So with all that said, I think it's a shame about the lack of dependency handling but I still like slackware well enough to use it even though I find the dependency thing quite annoying. I know that there are people here that have a lot more experience than I do and maybe there are some tools that could make this business easier. So how do you go about removing programs? Debian has deborphan and Arch has pacman -Rd. When you remove a program in slackware, how do you then get rid of all the unneeded dependencies?

Debian :: How To Get Rid Of Option To Remove Uni-booting Even Though Uninstalled Program

Sep 4, 2015

So I had decided to install debian but I thought I couls do it by myself without anything which I was wrong about, because I wound up installing Debian on my C: drive/windows partition. So far nothing has been bad and I am still running windows but now my C: drive has been renamed to "Install Debian GNU/Linux" I know the name doesn't mean shit but I'm curious why every time I go to change it it auto changes back. Also now every time it boots up it asks me to choose between UNetbootin, which i uninstalled, and windows. how do i get rid of the option to remove unetbootin even though I uninstalled the program. Same with Debian I deleted everything i could find but it still changes the drive name, how to fix any of this and might there be files I haven't found where would they be located?

Fedora :: Fully Uninstalling Software - Remove All Packages With A Program Automatic?

Jan 3, 2010

I've installed yesterday xmms and now I want to uninstall it. I've done it with yum. When I uninstall it like this: "yum remove xmms", then yum removes this package, but, when I check "yum list | grep xmms" I get full list of other packages like bluecurve-xmms-skin.noarch, gkrellxmms2.x86_64, gxmms2.x86_64 , ...

I want to cleanly remove the xmms, so I should remove all this packages "manually"? Is there a method to check wich packages are not used by any program on my computer and remove them? Or any method to remove all packages with a program automatic?
