View 3 Replies View RelatedHi, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal, right?). Switched from Vista a few days ago and I'm already loving it! Feels like I'm using a powerful machine again instead of some rusty, buggy contraption. Anyway, just installed MATLAB off a CD. Installation went fine and program seems to be working on par as far as I can tell (apart from that it crashes when I try to load a .fig, but can get around that).
However, it is not showing up in the Software Centre, even though it appears to be in the applications folder. Attempts to keep it in the launcher bar fail - it stays there but clicking on the icon doesn't do anything. Don't want to have to go the applications folder every time I want to run MATLAB...
I am trying to install Matlab v. 7.10 on my Ubuntu machine. I was able to successfully download the necessary files. However, when I attempt to install using ' ./install ', I get the following error message:
Finished extracting ftp files.
Starting installer ...
An error status was returned by the program 'xsetup', the X Window System version of 'install'.
The following essages were written to standard error:
/home/user1/mathworks_downloads/update/install/main.sh: 178: /home/user1/mathworks_downloads/update/bin/glnxa64/xsetup: not found
Attempt to fix the problem and try again. If X is not available or 'xsetup' cannot be made to work then try the terminal version of 'install' using the command:
install* -t or INSTALL* -t
Sorry! Setup aborted . . .
I tried using the command instal* -t, as recommended by the program, but then I get this error message:
Finished extracting ftp files.
Starting installer ...

I tried to mex two C files under matlab but faild. The system warned stdc++ cannot be found. I need the mexa64 files urgently. if someone can mex the C files using his/her machine. My server runs Debian GNU/Linux and the Matlab version is 64-bit R2010b. So the extension for the generated file would be mexa64. I'm using hotmail with the same user name as in here.

I have lost Both Ubuntu and windows with SUSE 11.3 installed and with YAST2 (as superuser) I cannot install belkin to get an internet connection, cannot instal Ubuntu or any thing else. I get the following;

In the latter case the centraldirectory and zipfile cannot be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of the /media/Ubuntu 9.10 i386/wubi.exe or /media/Ubuntu 9.10 i386/wubi.exe.zip, and cannot find /media/Ubuntu 9.10 i386/wubi.exe.ZIP, period

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter installing a few packages without a package manager (yast), I was wonding if there is anyway to make a shortcut (or application link or whatever its call) for any given program you install to show up automatically on all users desktops and start menus(for lack of a linux term). For example I installed firefox to a folder in the /opt directory and found that i could drag and drop the shell command to the desktop to make a shortcut, or i could create a new application link on my desktop and point it at firefox. But what If i wanted that to show up for all users somewhere by default? Is there anything like the "all users" desktion winXP or the "public user" in win7?

I'm trying to make an old Dell Latitude D505 running OpenSuse 11.3 LXDE download torrents at night between 2 and 6 AM (when I have free bandwidth), but I'm failing at a couple very basic things. The solution is probably very simple, but I can't find it.First: How can I schedule Transmission to start every day at 2AM? I tried with Crontab (using VCron), but I think I'm using the wrong command. When I type "transmission" in a terminal it launches transmission, but when I make a crontab entry with "transmission", nothing happens. Do I need to type the full path to the transmission executable? If so, how can I find that? Or is the problem more likely to have something to do with permissions?Second: Is it possible to schedule hibernation? If so, what command should I use?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have reinstalled Suse 10.1 as dual-boot with Windows XP. I am now unable to get a program to run from the Linux command line. I am familiar with the program and have had it running previously when the machine was Linux-only. Everything else, e.g.Firefox and Office, work fine in Suse.

The problem occurs with all commands - not just this one. isis3Startup.sh is in green on the screen so I assume I should be able to run it - I have never had any problem when it was installed previously.
I'm a beginner in working with SUSE linux and I don't know how to run a program(for example firefox-4) in Linux :-/

I have the same problem with opening other programs...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have matlab installed on a network (I am not the administrator) and we usually start the program by typing "matlab", then choosing one of the version options from the menu i.e. typing "n". So because of this, trying to run matlab programs or commands directly like this... matlab -r ProgramName
...does not work. I just get the menu as usual and everything else is ignored. I assume the admin has overridden the matlab command with their own custom script. So my question is can I start a specific version of the program by specifying the folder that the version is in? I thought it might be something like /opt/matlab/version -r programname
this might look foolish, but I am a bit of a linux noob. Let me know if I should just ask my administrator but I thought there might be something easy I am missing.
i just grabed a book and wrote a program and tried to compile it using 'javac' and everytime i'm getting this error:

I am trying to install the Matlab 7.5 compiled runtime for 64-bit Linux (MCRInstaller.75.glnxa64.bin) and keep getting a "No Java Runtime Environment(JRE) was found on this system." error message.
I understand the JRE is bundled with MCRInstaller and will self-compile/install. However, I don't have admin access, could this be the source of the problem? If so, how could I fix it (not sure how to direct it to install locally without going into the source code)?
I got around this error before, but stupid me didn't write down what I did and I forgot.
Anyone know of a good program to remove everything on a hardrive?
