Ubuntu :: Can't Remove A Shortcut Made By A Program
Jul 25, 2010
I recently installed Acetone ISO in the hopes of installing a program, but alas it doesn't do what I need it to (run the MDF file like a disk rather than showing all the files in it, and because this is a multi-disk thing I'm installing I'm kinda stuck now) and I noticed it would make a new virtual drive every time I mounted an image, and I wound up with four of them, and each one had its own shortcut on my desktop. Well, I removed the program and deleted the folder it created, but these shortcuts are still on my desktop. And they are UNTOUCHABLE!
The command line ls -al ~/Desktop/ will show everything on the desktop BUT THEM, they have no permissions, and cannot be moved, copied, or deleted, because Ubuntu can't find volume information on them. I reinstalled the program to see if anything would help, and I noticed that the drives would go away if I unmounted the image (I coulda sworn I told it to before, but it didn't want to...) but now these drives are errors to the program, and I still can't remove the shortcuts.
I've installed M$ office with Playonlinux anh it produce alot of icon in menu and ...now the problems that i open files with run which application i choose in "Open with" menu so it have alot of app from wine apps created. How can i remove them. Firefox66
On ubuntu i just compiled my first program using lazarus and i can open it in terminal fine but if i double click the file simply marked 'hello' nothing happens.
I've used Ubuntu for a number of years now, and have enjoyed it. I'm in the process of selling my laptop, and the guy that is buying it wants nothing to do with Linux. Is there an easy way to uninstall Ubuntu? I've been looking for hours and all I can find is people using a Windows Recovery CD, which I don't have. A few years ago, I remember running across a program that made uninstallation a breeze. Does anybody know what it was or where I could find it?
i set delete as a keyboard shortcut for the gnome-terminal accidentally and later changed it to ALT+T but now both DELETE and ALT+T open up a terminal its really annoying not to be able to use the delete key.....every time i press DELETE a terminal window opens up.
I have Ubuntu 11.04, upgraded from 10.10, and I'm logging into the default Ubuntu, Unity. In Dash, if I search for "firefox", I get three results:
Firefox Web Browser Mozilla Firefox Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)
Clicking Firefox Web Browser brings up Firefox just fine. But both Mozilla Firefoxes do nothing. I have a feeling that they're left over from Wine, but I'm not sure. The Uninstall Wine Software program doesn't show Firefox, but I may have uninstalled it through there a long time ago.
I want to remove these shortcuts from Dash. I tried checking the Main Menu program, but Mozilla Firefox isn't in there (though Firefox Web Browser is). I looked in /usr/share/menu/, and found a file called "firefox". That file specifies a title of "Firefox Browser", so I'm not sure if it even applies. The command it gives, "/usr/bin/firefox", is good, anyway. I don't see any other firefox related file there.
So, does anyone know how I remove those shortcuts from Dash?

I am setting up my shortcuts on Ubuntu (System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts) and there is no way to remove a shortcut. On the bottom of the screen says "(...) or press space to clear.", however, it doesn't work. The only way I found to remove a shortcut was to set up another shortcut with its keys, so it will be disabled.
I want to create a shortcut to run a program called RoomEqWizard but the only way I know how to run the program is to open a terminal and type the location to where the program is and call the program file. I already tried creating a shortcut on the main menu but I get a "error creating the child process for this terminal" message every time...
After installing a few packages without a package manager (yast), I was wonding if there is anyway to make a shortcut (or application link or whatever its call) for any given program you install to show up automatically on all users desktops and start menus(for lack of a linux term). For example I installed firefox to a folder in the /opt directory and found that i could drag and drop the shell command to the desktop to make a shortcut, or i could create a new application link on my desktop and point it at firefox. But what If i wanted that to show up for all users somewhere by default? Is there anything like the "all users" desktion winXP or the "public user" in win7?
I installed pidgin a while ago, and after using it I decided to stick with empathy...when I installed it, a shortcut to it appeared in the Indicator applet now, that I have uninstalled it, the shortcut remains although clicking on it doesn't do anything...does anybody know a simple way of removing the shortcut from the indicator applet?
I use a few command line programs quite often such as nano and mpc. I'd like to create a shortcut icon to open them rather than opening a terminal and then typing in the program name to open it. For example, how could i open konsole with nano opened in one step?
even though this is a simple task I always have problems to do this.I want to execute the following#!/bin/bashjava -jar JabRef-2.6.jaror in other words this is the command I use in konsole to make the application to launch. Then usully I try to create a desktop in the icon either by using a. create link to locationorb. create link to application.where I select as file the file myfile.sh that contains the two lines of code I posted above (see again below) "#!/bin/bashjava -jar JabRef-2.6.jar"I do this file executable by using the chmod +x.Sometimes I think this works while others like now I only receive the cursor bouncing for sometime before it dissapears
I'd like to create a launcher for ParaView that requires a terminal shell in order to launch. It is just a pain having to enter the couple of lines to launch it from Konsole.
cd /home/user/Document/ParaView(version)/bin ./paraview
Lemme know what you think. I'd just like to add something to the quick launch panel.
I want to be able to remove the first character of a line when I highlight multiple lines in gedit. Example:
%Example is %Commented Code %Uncomment using this shortcut
I would then highlight/select these lines, and remove the first character to make it look like this:
Example is Commented Code Uncomment using this shortcut
I'm pretty sure there is an actual shortcut for this. If there is another text editor on Linux that it would work in, it would be nice to know how to do it in that editor as well.
A program requires local path property to perform correctly.I'm seeking shortcut command to execute a program with a supplied localPath For example, cd /usr/local/blogrmis/usr/local/blogrmis/remote & remote program requires local path @ /usr/local/blogrmis to run.is there any shortcut which i can do it in 1 line?
I was wondering if it is possible to remove the "Check Email" shortcut you get when you press the super button in Unity.I don't ever use email programs so the shortcut is pointless to me.
My emacs editor is messed up so I tried to remove it via synaptic. It gave me an error and exited. Is there any way to manually remove that data so I can freshly re-install my favorite editor?

Im not thrilled with it and want to remove it.I used the comand sudo apt-get remove azureus and Code: sudo apt-get remove vuze it then listed a buch of files no longer needed so I erased them as well. The program is still there and operational. I tried the above again and it says that they dont exsist. I even looked for them in synaptic and the software center with no luck but I expected that.
