I installed nagios program from tar.gz file (from source basically). I didn't use dpkg or apt-get, I used 'configure','make install' and then 'make' scripts. How can I remove this progrma from debian system ?

as much as i am one for saving space and throwing out the trash. now my problem is the fact that I DO NOT WANT THIS program (localepurge) running on my system. i look and did everything i could. note : i am a noobie. when i config the program from the start i told it NO don't delete anything. and now that i have done some reading i do not want it working period. i could not find a way to disable or uninstall localepurge.

I want to run it on this machine because I have it hooked up to my tv and I have a wireless mouse and keyboard so I can program or whatever from the bed. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

So figured I would uninstall it and ran "make uninstall" in the source and it gave me an error that is has nothing to do.

I've installed CFEngine from source (for those of you who aren't familiar with the product, check out the wiki page) on an AIX server. I had some issues setting it up but finally got it to gmake successfully.
Once I run gmake install I get a very short output (based on other source builds) and no errors. I figure something is fishy and I now I need to figure out a good way to find if it was correctly installed. I tried:
find / -name cfeng* 2> /dev/null
Is there something analogous to rpm -qa | grep cfengine?

If i am installing softwares through rpm, i can later query to see which softwares are installed on my system (using rpm). But if i have installed any softwares from source (using tar, /.configure methodhow can i list those softwares to see which one are installed ?

Do you know of any dvd copying program? like without making the image and then burning with just one process just copy the disc sorta program like roxio dvd copier? I wanted to make copies of movies I made a dvd of but aside from image burn which is a hassle to make the image first. is there something for burning on the fly or dvd/cd copying? infrarecorder and cdburnerxp do not work for me at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had Ubuntu for awhile, now I installed Fedora12, I'm trying to follow directions to install a program from source code (tar.gz file) I have the February 2010 issue of Linux Format, and am trying to follow it step by step. I copied gnurobbo off their disk to my desk top, which copied it. Then I did the cd command, then I did the ls command and it didn't show me anything but a line saying desktop and a few other things like pictures movies etc. so I did cd gnurobbo-0.64 and it says no such file. I have been trying this for a few times and I think I'm going crazy.

I have MySQL 5.0.8 in my machine. how to remove the installed plugin.
I did apt-get install qtcreator and it installed qt 4.5.3(qt4.5.2real) I had qt 4.5.2. If I go in Applications->programming I see 2 shortcuts for qtcreator, one of them being newer. How do I remove the older one? On another note, if I want to update Qt to 4.6 what would be the steps if I already have qt 4.5

I have Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS running in my internal network running multiple services/applications and being used for business (LAMP stack, SVN, BIND, etc...).
I have a problem about to open zebra service after install quagga by command(./configure ; make ; make install ) and add service port ("/etc/services")

zebra dead but subsys locked
and can't telnet to zebra
"telnet: unable to connection to remote host: connection refused"
I following a manual http://www.quagga.net/docs/docs-info.php but it's not perfect.
I installed a game (Shredder 11) using Wine on my Ubuntu system. The installation seemed to go well, including the directx part, but when I want to run the game, I can't find it anywhere. It's not in Applications -> Wine, it's not on Wine's C: drive, and I even tried a search "find / -name shredder", which came up empty. I tried to install it again, but according to the installation program it is already installed! (It asked me if I wanted to modify, repair, etc..).

apt-get remove apache2
aptitude remove apache2
rm -rf /etc/apache2 , rm -rf /var/www
dpkg -P apache2
and of course ... --purge remove apache2

Would it therefore be safe to remove the first kernel in the installed list to save having two kernels being updated everytime I run yum update? Or is the PAE kernel dependant upon the original?
I have just installed ..src.rpm package. How do I uninstall it ? It's confusing to me because src and binary package share the same name ? (at least "rpm -qa" doesn't show any new src packages)
