I installed WINE, and decided to remove it after installing something, I was unable to uninstall, so I just removed WINE, now, I have the program stuck in my main menu. I deleted the path and stuff, but it's still there. How do I get rid of it?
View 2 RepliesThe only MS program I need on my computer is Word 2007 for the equation editor to write/edit files from work. So after installing Wine I installed MSOffice2007. Excel worked OK (although I don't need it - I am perfectly happy with the Libre Office spreadsheet). Word however froze each time so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it. However I always got an error message when trying to uninstall with Wine. So I followed the advice of some strands in this forum and deleted the Program Files folder from the ~.wine directory. However the menus are still in Wine/Programs/Microsoft Office even though they lead to nowhere. I tried to reinstall but still I nothing happened. I presume the old entries still lead to the position where previously the .exe files were located. Now my question is either how can I remove these menu entries and try installing again - or even better - is there a Linux programme that can read/edit the equations written in Word 2007?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

I would like to have Fedora set up just right but as with all Linux distros, am having trouble keeping my head above water with fc14. I have success up to a point and then want to go back to Windows for its simplicity. Just this wine problem
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 dual booted with Windows XP. Ever since I installed 9.10, I get a long list of OS's (actually, multiple repeats of what appears to be the same Ubuntu install), and I can't get rid of them.I've looked through various tutorials and the GRUB 2 Community documentation (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2) but I still can't get rid of the menu items.I edited the 40_custom file and was able to add the entries I wanted to see, and then chmoded 644 all the other files in the /etc/grub.d directory and run update-grub.The custom entries do appear at the end of the menu now, but the old entries are still there as well. This is what I get when I run the update-grub:

Is there any risk to deleting program entries from gconf-editor? It's very busy with software I'veuninstalled, which makes it fractionally harder to find entries when I want to edit them.

If I attempt to start it from somewhere else, like ~/, I get a library error. GP appears to want to look for this library in the working directory, and will only find it and start if I CD to /opt/GuitarPro6 first.
For this reason, I believe, when I click on the shortcut I made in Main Menu, nothing happens.
Is there any way to define the working directory for a shortcut in Main Menu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a comparative newbie, especially with using WINE. I installed it through the F12 package installer. I then found that the Applications menu entries were inoperative. Just plain dead. I tried uninstalling, then reinstalling. No improvement. Tried again from terminal using yum no change. The only way I've got anything to work is if I run from terminal as root. I know that if the .wine directory is created with root it may only work with root. I've tried deleting that directory, but I'm not sure I succeeded. I don't see the .wine directory but nothing runs with a non-root login.
When I do see errors, they are mostly that the program can't be found in a WINE "DOS" directory. I did get two MS Office apps installed (as test cases) but, again, F12 menu items don't work and I can only run them as root. I think internet access is cut off as well (can't get them to activate). I guess my overall question is: How do I install WINE in F12 such that the menu items work for non-root logins? If there's already a guide, wiki or FAQ, I'd be happy to know where it is.
Does anybody know how to manually edit the main menu (gnome) launcher files? I would like to start a program as root but the only wasan get it to work is to set it up as a "Terminal Application" and put sudo in front of the command. Is there a way (similar to "system-config-firewall" ) can prompt for the root password an run the software as an "Application"

Some themes will include an icon for the Gnome Main Menu that you may or may not like including the default Fedora "infinity" Main Menu icon.Most launchers, whether on the desktop or on a Gnome panel, will permit you to change the individual icon. The Gnome Main Menu offers no such facility. Whereas there have been several challenging methods suggested to change that icon on a system-wide basis, there is an easy and straightforward way to do it on a user account basis.
Note: the method described herein applies only to the single Main Menu icon usually added to a Gnome panel in place of the custom Menu Bar that Fedora creates by default. This method does not work with the default custom Menu Bar. i am using the global menu applet on ubuntu desktop edition. almost all of the apps shows its main menu on the global menu applet, but lyx doesn't. am i the only one experiencing this problem? i am using updated maverick.

View 11 Replies View Relatedwhile trying to get a game to work on wine I was surprised to find out that the wine version that ships with sid is 1.0.1 released in October 2005. So I installed the latest release I found at [URL] like this :
dpkg -i wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb
The install failed, I think because I hadn't remove the old wine version, and that's when the joy-ride started. Impossible to remove wine to restart properly. (apt-get remove libwine wine and apt-get -f install didn't) After some googling I tried this :
dpkg -i --force-depends wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb
This did install the wine version I wanted, and the game ran fine after that. However the result was a borked apt-get. Tried to remove wine again with the above commands, resulting in apt-get failing to do so because it tried installing wine-unstable and reported errors similar to these : E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'wine-unstable'. see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details. (2)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI only use it to run a program off of CD, not an installed application. This same program ran fine with wine under Fedora 10 & 11, but not on Fedora 12. I installed wine with:
Code: yum install wine as root. When I try to execute the program, it shows the little bouncing wine icon and all, but then wine disappears. Also, when I looked at the wine configuration, the configuration program crashed/hung. I had to kill it via the System Monitor. I'm on a KDE desktop with hardware acceleration, and Fedora 12 x86_64.

But now when I try to install all that it offers to do is UNinstall. I thought I could UNinstall and then reinstall, but no...It fails to UNinstall too...just as it failed to install. So I'm wondering how to remove this (the command line way) from the system. I tried "yum remove wine" and when I put wine back, like a phantom, the same problem was there. I tried removing the entire .wine directory in my home folder...same problem.
