I'm using ubuntu karmic and I'm not able to connect to the internet with my reliance netconnect data card using network manager. Other distros like fedora, opensuse n sabayon connected easily with nm. Ubuntu detects the data card flawlessly but just doesnt connect. This problem has been persistent even in previous ubuntu versions, n I used to use wvdial. But downloading wvdial on some other comp with every dependency is really cumbersome.
I tried connecting my reliance netconnect usb modem using mobile broadband in network connection but its unsuccessfull inspite of proper configuration.
I tried connecting my reliance netconnect usb modem using mobile broadband in network connection but its unsuccessfull inspite of proper configuration..
I have installed ubuntu 32 bit version on my HCL netbook. I use reliance netconnect (Huwai EC 1260 or 168c). I have configured it and it works well. But the only problem is that I have to connect the netconnect device before booting. If I connect it when its ON, the networkmanager does not connect automatically. even on the right on the tray icon, enable mobile broadband option is not there.
i earlier used bsnl broadband(indian) in ubuntu and configure it using pppoeconf. right now i shifted to reliance broadband(not usb modem) but now pppoeconf cannot detect the connection It shows something like " Sorry I scanned two interfaces but the access concentrator of ur provider did not respond.plz chck ur ntwrk and modem cables. anoder reason fir the scan failure may be anoder running pppoe process which controls the modem
Reliance Netconnet Broadband+ ZTE does not work out-of-the-box with Ubuntu 9.10. I haven't yet upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 (iso download is at 46% ). Does it work out-of-the-box or is there some packages that need to be installed? (I have a dual-boot laptop Ubuntu/Windows 7)

I am facing a problem concerning secure websites where I get the "Connection Reset" error in browser after a timeout of I think 1 minute.
OS: Fedora 14 ( I faced same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 )Browsers: Chrome and Firefox
The issue is not there on Windows using Chrome and Firefox so I believe this is a problem with how linux manages secure connections. I can access all the google secure websites too. There a few other websites apart from facebook.com that I know which I am unable to access.
I have a lenovo x200 laptop running Fedora 14, fully up to date with the Fedora repository. Seemingly out of nowhere, some websites will no longer load. First it happened to www.facebook.com, next (after a day or so) wikipedia.org, now the Fedora forum. Other Internet access seems fine, but when I try to go to these pages I just get "unable to find host" errors. Its totally bizarre. It first happened in an airport so I thought it was just a strange network there, but now it happens at home. I can't get on these sites in firefox or elinks browsers (in a terminal) BUT I can ping both sites no problem. Also, the other computers in this house have no problem visiting these sites.
I have got my bsnl broadband few weeks ago. It is running nicely on my ubuntu lucid desktop. But form past few days I'm unable to browse some of my websites from ubuntu. I have dual boot my pc wiht Microsoft Window XP(original). The websites which are not opening in ubuntu are easily opening in xp. I have changed the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and also my MTU to 1452 but nothing is happening.
I tried ubuntu and am very happy with the smooth running and clean interface. I am having trouble setting up my network connections. It seems that I am unable to connect to the internet via my broadband modem if I am connected to my LAN via wifi. I think I need to seperate the networks so that the internet traffic does look on the lan for [URL]. I don't think I have had this problem when I used much smaller distros where I had to set it up by hand.
I might need to add some details I am just not sure what is relevant. I only have a basic understanding of what is going on.
solution:
Solved in #ubuntu irc chan with help by erUSUL.
Just in case anyone else is searching for the same thing.
In network connections in the ipv4 settings tab I edited routes by clicking the button and checked the box next to: "use this connection only for resources on its network"
I have mobile broadband which is T-Mobile UK. The modem is a Huawei E160 and on a Ubuntu page, it says that this modem doesn't work at all. That's the only internet source I have so I need to be able to use it. tried to install usb_modeswitch and I'm going to test a different piece of software later. My version of Ubuntu is 10.04.
How do I get information about the SIM card of my USB broadband modem, for example it's phone number, serial number and so on, in Ubuntu 10.04?Not about the usb modem itself - just the SIM card inside it.Is there a way to probe it from the terminal, like you probe for usb devices with lsusb?
I am running a 3-G wireless USB broadband modem, and connecting with Network Manager, but I keep getting disconnected when idle after 5-6 minutes. I am used to using Kinternet to connect with my 3-G wireless USB broadband modem, and setting it up in Yast / Network / Modems, but was not able to configure my modem there (for some mysterious reason) so ended up using Network Manager instead.
What's going on here regarding YAST being unable to configure my modem (even when Network Manger is disabled). But my main problem at this point is that my connection times out after about 6 minutes if I'm idle. This is a big problem for me because I type slow and frequently get disconnected while posting on message boards. Where are the idle time out settings are for Network Manager? I can't seem to find them.
I installed ubuntu 10.04 in my desktop, was working fine. connecting to the internet through linksys router. now my internet is not working, because i removed the linksys router and connected directly from the internet provider modem, Motorola sbv5222 broadband modem. Now my internet is not working.
I got Mint 7 running on my Laptop, a Pentium 4 by Dell. It dual boots XP as well. But the mobile broadband which connects by the USB port only works in XP. There are small windows that say it will not run. Errors. How can I get this working in Linux?
I've been trying to use the onboard modem on my laptop for Internet connectivity. From what I can gather, Ubuntu hasn't installed a driver for the modem.
When I connect my phone using a usb cable to the laptop, I'm able to connect and browse. However, the network manager doesn't seem to have a driver for the onboard modem because it doesn't recognize it.
