View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to configure the Huawei E220 modem I recently bought in Fedora 10. I read lot of detail documents in the internet. All were interesting and explaining the wvdial.conf file. The problem I have is that, the file asks for the phone # to dial, username & a password. I don't have these information since my ISP didn't provide those. It works perfectly in Windows, in which above information are not needed, because when plugged in Windows, a software installation launches, which does the job to connect to the internet. So, is there a way to configure the modem to connect to the internet without those information. Because my ISP refuses to provide those, when I called there customer services.

It's supposed to be recognized by the kernel and just added through Network Manager, but - no luck. I also installed vodafone-mobile connect from here: [URL] (as well as the other packages). What happens when I start it - it doesn't see the modem. It's seen as a CD drive, and clicking "eject", "unmount" or "remove safely" on it doesn't help - it disappears, then several seconds later appears as a CD drive again.

I've created step by step process to configure the TATA/Reliance modem over linux..Pls go thru the link
I used this method to configure TATA photon+ but I hope similar way will also work for Reliance NetConnect Brodband+
Huwaie/ZTE Modem
Command Mode:
1) Check your NetworkManager rpm for Correct Installation
2) Set SELinux in permissive mode and switch to ROOT user or you can also use sudo..
3) If wvdial is not installed already, you've to install it from Fedora Repository. yum install wvdial
4) Run below command, it will detect your modem....wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
If this command can't detect your modem then try below commands
i) lsusb -v grep -i iManufacturer The above command will help you to know the manufacturer of you modem and to get its vendorId and productionid.
ii) lsusb -v From above command search the vendor id and product id your of modem and execute the below command
iii) modprobe usbserial vendor=XXXXXX product=XXXXXX This command will load your modem
Now run the command given in step 4.
5) Now open /etc/wvdial.conf file in your favourite editor. I used vim for this purpose.
vim /etc/wvdial.conf
Change your username and password with internet/internet. Save and exit.
6) Now try below command..
wvdial
7) Open /etc/resolv.conf or execute below command
You can also add some global DNS echo "nameserver 4.2.2.2" >> /etc/resolv.conf
8) try to ping any site
If you get the response then you are all set for the modem, ENJOY SURFING with high Speed
GUI Mode:
Right Click on the Netowk icon on your status bar
NetowkManager > Mobile Brodband > Add
Simply follow the instructions given in GUI and setup your modem
Then Left Click on NetworkManager ICON on status bar and choose your connection and connect,
If you face any problem then set SELinux ini permissive mode and then try.
I tested the GUI method for huawei modem but, for ZTE modem, it doesn't work, Please let me know if it works for you..

I moved from Debian to Ubuntu a few months ago, with everything working fine, except my 3G modem (which worked with wvdial and umtsmon in Debian).
The packaging claims that it is a Huawei E160, but lsusb says different: E220 (12d1:1003).
I've followed various instructions from these forums and the wiki, and it seems to be being recognised as a modem (I can set up an O2 prepaid (UK) connection), but it refuses to connect.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy machine is running on a dual-boot Windows Vista/openSUSE 11.2 scenario. I have been trying to get my Huawei E1550 to work on Linux for the past few days trying numerous methods suggested in other forums from people with the same problem, but I have not produced any fruitful results.
Plugging in the USB modem results in Linux detecting it as a CD-ROM. I have installed usb_modeswitch in attempt to switch it to a modem, but Linux still fails to recognize it. Windows Device Manager and lsusb both give ProductID=1001 and VendorID=12d1 connected to USB1. I'm guessing since Windows detects the correct IDs, the Linux versions should also be correct. In any case, I ran usb_modeswitch with the Default IDs for /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf, which gave 0x1446 as the ProductID, not 0x1001. Upon running usb_modeswitch, the product ID could not be found so the program fails and quits asking if it's connected (and it is).
Just to test, I also ran wvdial which unsurprisingly did not detect the modem and could not send the init strings. All commands were done using root privileges. Also note that when after usb_modeswitch is run and upon plugging in the USB, NetworkManager pops up near the tray saying "attached" but still shows the device as a CD-ROM.
ubuntu I can not use a wireless modem huawei 160.type can only be used in windows.well to be used in my ubuntu linux? whether there is a script that used.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is really weird, and I would like just this question answered: I've spent like 2 hours by plugging, unplugging, rebooting, and doing everything I could, but the modem wasn't working. When I did ls /dev/ttyU* it was showing up a list of 6 usb devices.
Code:
/dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyUSB1 /dev/ttyUSB2
/dev/ttyUSB3 /dev/ttyUSB4 /dev/ttyUSB5
And when I sent the command wvdialconf after looking into all the devices, it didn't recognize any modem.
The thing is, that by the time I was writing here for a solution, I disconnected the modem, and when I reconnected it I did a ls /dev/ttyU* just to copypaste the info, and Voil! there were just 2 devices, and wvdialconf worked out just fine! I would like to know what I was doing wrong, so I make sure it won't happen again.
Oh, and I forgot to say: I use Ubuntu 8.04

My only problem is my Broadband. I live in Ireland and I have my broadband with o2, it's quick and sufficient for my needs. I have a Huawei E270 usb modem (It's wireless broadband). And it wouldn't Work. I plugged it into my pc with Ubuntu up and running and it opened the File for o2 rather than the Interface for it. When I plugged the modem in there was a green lock symbol on the top right of the screen. Is Ubuntu even compatible with the E270 modem?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having desperate problems trying to connect to the net with a Huawei E173 USB modem. I was using Linux Mint 7 which I upgraded to version 9 today to see if that would fix the problem but it made no difference. Basically it seems the only time I can connect to the net in linux is if I use the modem in windows and then restart straight into linux, in that case it sometimes gets recognised and works. So at least I know it can work.
I've been trying loads of stuff like usb_modeswitch I found on the net but none of it has worked. Here is what ls-usb gives me -
