Ubuntu Networking :: Enabling Auto-connect For Reliance Netconnect?

Oct 11, 2010

I have installed ubuntu 32 bit version on my HCL netbook. I use reliance netconnect (Huwai EC 1260 or 168c). I have configured it and it works well. But the only problem is that I have to connect the netconnect device before booting. If I connect it when its ON, the networkmanager does not connect automatically. even on the right on the tray icon, enable mobile broadband option is not there.

I installed the "wireless tether for root users" app on my phone and use it ALL the time to go online on my netbook through my phone on windows. However Ubuntu 9.10 does not seem to connect to my phone running this app. It sees the SSID, and i tell it to connect, and then I just get that circle thing for a couple of minutes then it gives up and connects to my main router if its in range.

General :: Connect Tata And Reliance Boradband Modem

Mar 23, 2010

Here is a method for connect usb modem in linux system.

I've created step by step process to configure the TATA/Reliance modem over linux..Pls go thru the link

I used this method to configure TATA photon+ but I hope similar way will also work for Reliance NetConnect Brodband+

Huwaie/ZTE Modem
Command Mode:

1) Check your NetworkManager rpm for Correct Installation

2) Set SELinux in permissive mode and switch to ROOT user or you can also use sudo..

3) If wvdial is not installed already, you've to install it from Fedora Repository. yum install wvdial

4) Run below command, it will detect your modem....wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

If this command can't detect your modem then try below commands

i) lsusb -v grep -i iManufacturer The above command will help you to know the manufacturer of you modem and to get its vendorId and productionid.

ii) lsusb -v From above command search the vendor id and product id your of modem and execute the below command

iii) modprobe usbserial vendor=XXXXXX product=XXXXXX This command will load your modem

Now run the command given in step 4.

5) Now open /etc/wvdial.conf file in your favourite editor. I used vim for this purpose.

vim /etc/wvdial.conf

Change your username and password with internet/internet. Save and exit.

6) Now try below command..

wvdial

7) Open /etc/resolv.conf or execute below command

You can also add some global DNS echo "nameserver 4.2.2.2" >> /etc/resolv.conf

8) try to ping any site

If you get the response then you are all set for the modem, ENJOY SURFING with high Speed

GUI Mode:

Right Click on the Netowk icon on your status bar

NetowkManager > Mobile Brodband > Add

Simply follow the instructions given in GUI and setup your modem

Then Left Click on NetworkManager ICON on status bar and choose your connection and connect,

If you face any problem then set SELinux ini permissive mode and then try.

I tested the GUI method for huawei modem but, for ZTE modem, it doesn't work, Please let me know if it works for you..

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet - Karmic And Kernel 2.6.27

Sep 6, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx on a MSI Wind U100 Netbook, and most of the time (say 9 times over 10), my computer can't connect to Internet, be it with an ethernet cable or wifi. I have heard of similar problems with Ubuntu Karmic and kernel 2.6.27, but mine is 2.6.32, so I didn't try the solutions I've found across the web, fearing to break more than anything else.

What I can say is that before running Lucid, the netbook was running Hardy, and ethernet used to work fine whereas WiFi absolutely not (but I didn't try too hard to make it work).

After trialling ubuntu on my home comp, and getting brilliant results, i've now migrated my work computer too. Now, i can't connect to the internet or office network. I'm on a small office wired network. When i was on XP all the settings were on 'utomatic' - didn't need to input an IP, DNS, subnet etc. Now i Can't even ping the router.I've browsed around various other threads and can't find a working solution. I've tried inputting various settings in ubuntu connection settings, but still cannot get it working. (was hoping it would be automatic, as it was on my home comp).

Ubuntu Networking :: Karmic: Make A Bluetooth Device *not* Auto-connect?

Mar 5, 2010

I have a nifty new headset (a JawBone iconthe noise cancellation is incredible) and I've successfully connected it to my Karmic laptop (64 bit, for the off chance it makes a difference). The trouble is, I only occasionally want to connect it to my laptop; I mostly use it with my mobile 'phone.

The two devices fight over my new toy a lot, and invariably the laptop wins, contrary to what I want. It seems a pain to have to rediscover the headset every time I want to use VIOP or whatever, so is there a way to add a device to Karmic's Bluetooth list, but not have it connect whenever it sees it?

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Use Pcmcia W-CDMA Adapter (NetIndex D01NX)

Apr 13, 2010

I'm using a Kohjinsha SR6 and trialling the ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix from a USB stick before taking the plunge. I have an Emobile D01NX adapter for internet, but I simply can't get it to work even though e-mobile is in the Japan mobile broadband options in network connections (maybe for some of their USB adapters?).

running lspcmcia -v gives:
Socket 0 Bridge: [yenta_cardbus] (bus ID: 0000:02:06.0)
Configuration: state: on ready: unknown
Voltage: 3.3V Vcc: 3.3V Vpp: 3.3V

[Code].....

one thing that's crossed my mind is that I haven't got persistence on my usb drive, would that be likely to affect anything? As I understand it that just means everything I do needs to be re-done when I reboot right?

I looked up this issue on the Japanese Ubuntu forums (here) and what I gather is that there is some sort of technical issue with the translation chip (Elan VMB5000?) but that the Sharp Zaurus (link), which runs on a linux variant, has a driver out for my specific device (here). This may be the answer I'm looking for, but unfortunately my linux ability is largely limited to using the GUI and a few basic text commands so installing or modifying the files is way beyond me.

Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing CDMA Connection Through Laptop Wireless

Oct 10, 2010

I am looking for information on how to set up my laptop (running ubuntu 10.04) as a wireless access point for other wireless computers, through a mobile broadband usb device. My reason for wanting to do this: i have a mobile broadband verizon usb device for connecting to the internet when a regular wifi connection is not available. however, my wife does not, and it would be nice if she could use her wifi to connect to my laptop wifi and subsequently share my mobile broadband connection. Independently, I have no problems with wireless connectivity using wifi or mobile broadband, I am simply unable to figure out how to configure the two to work together in such a way as to create a wireless access point via my laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel Wireless / Sprint CDMA Not Working In Network Manager

Jun 6, 2011

Since an upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04, all wireless devices for me in the plasma network manager applet are not functioning properly on a Dell Latitude E4310. Specific problem: No wireless networks appear in the plasma network manager applet. Manually-configured networks do not connect. A separate CDMA card appears, but cannot establish a connection. The CDMA card does function on 10.10 machines, and formerly worked on this machine. The only wireless 'network' that appears in the plasma network manager widget is 'hidden network'. Manually adding a network and checking "Connect Automatically" does nothing. I attempted a fresh install after the upgrade itself failed the work. There are no networks to click on, and selecting the device itself merely shows the status page.
