I try to upgrade from ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, but there is no final version available when I press Alt + F2, only the release candidate. What is the problem here and what can I do?

My question is - WHEN THE FINAL VERSION OF UBUNTU 10.04 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, IS IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ? OR WILL UPDATING OR UPGRADING VIA THE system ---- administration --- update manager will upgrade my current beta version to the final release ???
I would like to be able to install firefox without installing the "pre" version. I don't like running beta software for my primary browser. I already installed Namoroka, which is 3.6.1pre. Is there a repository I can add for this? I will already have to remove one of my repositories and remove firefox.

My question is, if I use the upgrade-manager -d feature will it be like an actual beta 2 when it gets released and later on will it be the same as the full final version. Or must I do a complete re-installation if I want to run the final version of 10.04?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the RC of Lucid on an old AMD X2 5600 w/4GB DDR2 ram, and put it in the other room and installed LAMP on it to use as a local development server. It works beautifully over the network.
1. There will be an upgrade option to go from RC to final release, right?
2. When upgrading, will this kill my LAMP install? I really don't wanna go from scratch now that I have it all up and running with a load of CMS systems installed for test environments
I'm so excited to see how nicely Lubuntu 10.04 runs on my EeePC. I went ahead and installed it, knowing that it's just the second beta. Everything seems to be going nicely, but when I did a "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" it showed there were tons of updates (about 90MB worth). I saw updates for Chrome, the kernel, xserver-xorg, etc. I understand this is just a beta operating system and is not recommended to be used as a primary OS, but I'm just so excited and can't wait. If I stay with this install, and keep updating, would I eventually make my way to the final release? Or would you recommend doing a reinstall with the final image?

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 desktop version on my Lenovo L420 laptop. Now my friend told me that if I had installed laptop version on it then it would have recognized events related to laptop like closing down the laptop screen and all.

Default state indicated by different icons. Interface option brought up by right-mouse-clicking on the qinternet/kinternet panel icon and choosing Settings/Various Settings/Startup tab. Note: Regardless of whether qinternet was running or not, internet communications via the relevant network interface still worked.
In case the failure of qinternet/smpppd was simply a PolicyKit issue, I edited /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf to ensure that the relevant user had the necessary privilege to run smpppd (I assume that qinternet can be ignored since it is just the front end for smpppd) e.g.

This made no difference, SO FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES ONLY, I logged in as root after first removing the power from the network switches externally connected to each network interface (isolating the local host). I then ran qinternet but once again, the Interface option was greyed out. This confirmed fairly conclusively that lack of privilege was not responsible for the qinternet/smpppd problem.
I would like to install PostgreSQL 8.5 from this link [URL], but it complains that it needs rpm-4.6.0 as dependency. It seems that CentOS does not support rpm with version bigger than 4.2.2, or am I wrong?

Now, every time I run update manager, it tells me to run a partial upgrade. I can close the window and proceed upgrading packages,but if I let it try the partial upgrade is starts a distribution upgrade !??! I am currently running 11.04.
How can I stop update manager from trying to update my distro version?
I've got Ubuntu 11.04 here and I am currently downloading oneiric ocelot iso. My question is: can I simply upgrade from my current Ubuntu version to oneiric? It is 9.04 now and the new version will be (ideally) 10.04.1 The machine has a large unused area on the hard drive and who has known this situation was to use the uncommitted area to do a complete new install of 10.04.1, leaving the 9.04 unchanged (useful insurance). Then, copy, paste (?) the /home directory from the 9.04 into the newly completed installed 10.04.1 overwriting the installed directory.
Opinions seem to support the notion that such a paste into 10.04.1 is likely to be successful and trouble free as long as the 10.04.1 installing username is the same as the 9.04 username with same privilege level. I would be grateful for comments here, particularly with any details, gotchas, you can see.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was clean installing Ubuntu 10.04, and for some reason my machine crashed during the final stages (has been a bit unstable recently), when running the init scripts I think. As a result I think that some programs are not being run properly. For example, cups is never running - I have to start it to use printers. And CDs dont mount automatically. Here are the services states:

View 4 Replies View RelatedSomehow I've been really unlucky with Ubuntu 10.10. When I run the CD choose any of the three options offered by Grub, the system just waits for 20-30 seconds and gives me a screen with Green squares.

I have an Intel Dual Core 2.0Ghz PC with 8GB ram and an Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card. I have Ubuntu 10.04 on it which installs and works fine. its only the 10.10 that I have this problem with.
