Is there an option to hide and unhide hidden files inside nautilous with a press of a button?And without the need to browse the edit-preferences-etc all the time?

Hidden directory is .XXX, there is a "." in front. How to make it non-hidden? I mean, you can see it at terminal with ls command.

Well, all three say you can do it, but none of them does. According to several sources, there is software available under DOS or Windows for the purpose, but I want to do it as a separate boot method or under Ubuntu when I boot up Live.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install WoW on my Ubuntu machine and I'm having trouble right off the hop. I'm using an install DVD thru wine and it says since the Installer.exe is hidden I need to remount my drive with the unhide option on.

Note that on some WoW DVD's the installer executable is hidden and you need to re-mount the disc with the 'unhide' option. To do this type in a terminal:
sudo umount /dev/cdrom
sudo mount -t iso9660 -o ro,unhide /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0/
The unmount part works just fine but when I go to remount the drive it gives me this error:
mount: mount point /media/cdrom0/ does not exist
I want to copy a file from folder A to folder B using the GUI
But the paste button is grayed out.
I realise this is because I've logged in as a user rather than root, so how do I enable the paste option on this occasion so that I can paste these files?
Nautilis is very good at hiding or showing 'hidden' files and folders (names starting with .) but using any other program to save or open a file, I have to scroll through reams of hidden to my storage folders. Is there a way to make the save and open dialogs 'hide' the 'hidden' files? Is it different for different programs?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi use ubuntu 10.04.its working quite normally.i installed ubuntu tweak and compiz fusion etc.For a few days i didn't have any problem.but after some time in the case of ubuntu tweak,i am unable to press the 'unlock' button.its as if its freezed or something.nothing will happen.in the case of compiz fusion i am unable to change its settings and change the effects.the software center application which is one of the default applications, i am unable to install a thing.the install button there is also freezed.like wise i think my super powers have gone automatically.but when i checked the users and admin settings i still have the super powers and i am the administrator.so i deleted that user and made an another user.

Now I am probably being obtuse, but If I click on the wonderfully named "My Computer" I get, among other things, a display of Disk Information; hard drive partitions and any DVDs or CDs. If I let my mouse cursor alight on any of these, I get a message "Press the right mouse button for more options (such as Mount or Eject)" But if I press the right mouse button, I don't get those options; I get a message "Open in new window, Open in new tab, Open with ..., Create file project with K3b, and Compress ...".

View 9 Replies View RelatedI gave up on XP - not the place for long sob stories - and decided to try Ubuntu. I know nothing, so I chose the 10.04.1 because it said stable... made a CD, took it to the problem computer, tried several times to load, then noticed that "Wubi" loaded from windows. I hunted down a 10.04.1 Wubi, and it seemed to read rather well. No error messages, told me to remove the disc. I did, told me to reboot. I chose ubuntu and it froze with the words :

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt work I've got a HP LaserJet P1505n printer that is used as network printer. It has an ethernet port and is plugged in directly into the network. Everybody in the office is using Windows and has no problems working with it. After a few hours of google-ing, I also managed to set it up with CUPS as a LPD printer, with some problems: every time I send a document to it, it goes into the "error" state, and I have to press the "green" button for the printer to start printing. Is there a way to work around these errors? I tried to google for these kind of errors, but couldn't find anything useful.

It is an hp compaq d220 MT.It looks good and feels good, well at least for a while since it keeps crashing. The screen starts to flicker, goes black, and the only way to get it up and running again is to press the on/off button until the system powers off and restart.
