Debian Multimedia :: Save Gnome Minimize Window Always On Top Option?

May 15, 2011

When I open either my user or root terminal, by right-clicking on the Minimise Window option in the top right-hand corner (beside the Restore Window and Close Window options), if I tick the Always on Top option from the drop-down menu, then the terminal Window (or any other window when this option is selected) will not minimise automatically on clicking the mouse in another open window like, for example, Iceweasel. This is particularly useful, for example, when cutting and pasting commands from the browser to the terminal and I recommend it. But how can the Always on Top option be set to permanent for a specific program, like the the Terminal so that it will be saved for the next time one logs in to a Gnome session?

Fedora :: Fc14 Amd64 Gnome - Hiding Hidden Files In Dolphin And Showing Full Location In Nautilus?

Apr 4, 2011

Trying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..

Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.

Fedora :: Gnome 3 Open File Dialog Not Talking To Browser?

Aug 25, 2011

I suspect this is a Gnome 3 problem and not a Fedora problem, but I have no way to separate the two here. I cannot upload an image from my computer to Weebly or to Google Plus, but strangely enough, I can upload one to Picasa. The sequence of actions goes something like this:

1. Open Weebly editing interface, add a picture element, click on the element to edit/add a picture. It then gives you a choice: from your local computer, from the web, etc.

2. Click on 'from local computer' and my computer opens the Open File Dialog Window.I am guessing that is its name, it is the same window you get when opening a file in any other application, like Gedit or LibreOffice.

3. Navigate to the image I want to upload and double click on it or select 'Open'.

4. Nothing happens.

I am able to upload images from my laptop, running Linux Mint 11 with Gnome 2.

It sounds to me like the Open File Window is not passing on the necessary information to the browser. I have no idea why it works in Picasa and not in Google+ or Weebly.

I don't really expect anyone to have a solution just yet, but I wanted to mention it somewhere, and I didn't see any Gnome.org forums. On the other hand, if someone does have a solution, great.

This is by no means a knock on Gnome 3, it is fine with me and I Iike it a lot more than I thought I would.

OpenSUSE Network :: GNOME 3 SSH Passphrase Dialog Does Not Allow Pasting Or Dropping

Jul 19, 2011

I'm using OpenSUSE 11.4 and the GNOME 3 packages in the GNOME:STABLE repository. I maintain an application and have a remote Mercurial repo hosted at BitBucket, which requires SSH to do any push/pull operation.

My passphrase is just that -- a phrase, not a word -- and it's too long to type accurately without seeing it. I cut and paste it from a web page. When I'm asked by a console app for the passphrase, I can do that. The GNOME SSH passphrase dialog does not allow pasting or dropping, so I can either try to type it or hit cancel. Normally, ssh-add provided a way around this; it would ask you for the phrase on the console, and I could paste it.

This doesn't work in GNOME 3. ssh-add still asks me for the passphrase, but when I try any operation that requires the key, the dialog pops up again. How is it possible to get ssh-add to work, or (preferably) get rid of the dialog?

General :: Single Click To Activate Items - Gnome - File Locate Dialog

Jan 21, 2010

I have changed the preference in the Nautilus file manager/browser to "Single click to activate items" and it works.

However, when I run an application, say Totem Movie Player, and select Movie/Open I am presented with a Nautilus like file navigation dialog. This is a common dialog to most Gnome applications - probably part of Gnome. Problem is, the dialog does not respect my "single click..." preference.

I have tested this in Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 alpha 2 and CentOS 5.4 - I do not think it is distribution related.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Find "hidden" Mp3 Files (incomplete Files Or Just Rubbish)

Jan 26, 2010

I've got a collection of MP3 files, but sometimes I stumble across a double file in Rhythmbox. At first, I thought they were the real files, but after trying to fix the tags (artist names were incorrect or missing) in tag editor, I didn't see any change in the files in Rhythmbox.

This made me search for the album in which the files were (in Rhythmbox). I found out that these incorrectly named files were doubles, but they didn't show in the actual folder.

So, I deduced, They had to be fakes. I threw the doubles in the trash bin, and there it was. They were hidden files (with a dot in front).

How can I find all these hidden files, so I can remove them?

Ubuntu :: HDD Files Have Disappeared But Aren't Hidden?

Jun 6, 2010

I have an external HDD which i keep all my movies and tv shows and whatnot on. I rebooted my laptop routinely and when the HDD reconnected it still has the same amount of disc space used up but in my movie folder only 221/1186 movies are showing up in nautilus. I opened KDirStat to check and all the movies are still on the HDD nothing has been erased. I have restarted the laptop, restarted the HDD, disconnected/reconnected the HDD, swapped USB ports. I don't think it matters but I have written a .sh script that generates a list of all the folders contents and outputs it to a .txt file. Even though the HDD is only showing 221 files the txt output has all 1186. why 800 files would just not show up in nautilus explorer?

Currently running:
Ubuntu 9.10
Nautilus 1:2.28.10ubuntu3

EDIT: I can still access and play every file that is not showing up by opening them through a media player such as VLC. Also when i Alt+F2 and type the directory and file name they still fill themselves in as normal also.

Ubuntu :: Desktop Hidden Files / Show On Them?

Aug 13, 2010

I created an image and then saved it to my desktop as *.jpg

It doesn't show on my desktop anywhere. However, when I click to upload from my desktop to a website or to 'insert' and attachment in my email program and browse to my desktop, it shows that it is on my desktop and all works fine.

I have a feeling the * is the problem in the name and I would happily rename it if I could only get to it from my desktop but I cannot at all.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Code:
