View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Apache with Kerberos security enabled. The http page simply lists the directories contained in /var/www/html. I want to make only one of the directories in the document root secured so that when someone clicks on it, it requires him/her to enter credentials. Right now when I place the .htaccess file in the directory I want to protect, the directory is hidden from the list and the user has to enter the whole path to get authenticated and access the files.
I've tried Options +Indexes which was posted all over the net, but it didn't work.
I've done a low level format on them so they're completely empty. When I use them with my windows machines, they're absolutely fine. When I plug them into my Ubuntu machine, there is a hidden directory created called 'RECYCLER' which I'm assuming is for deleted files? However, it also creates a .exe file in this directory called 0x2D9FA278 which has an Icon with an H in it and a comment of 'Facebook Photo' This has the effect of making all the directories on the stick into shortcuts! I googled the file name and it seems to be some sort of Trojan, but I don't understand how it's go into my Ubuntu machine, I've scanned with ClamAV and it finds nothing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently reformatted my external hard disk to ext3, and now whenever I delete something via my file manager, a hidden directory (".Trash-1000") is made. I would like to keep this drive clean, is there any way to stop the directory from being made? I'm getting annoyed having to rm -r it every time I delete something.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure what the problem is, but my home directory or /home partition is acting up so that I cannot see the hidden directories in my home directory.
If I type "ls" I get the display of all my files and directories.
If I type "ls -l" I get the display of files and directories.
If I type "ls -a" or "ls -la", the terminal hangs.
Any thoughts? I have tried creating myself a new account and moved all my files over, then changed the ownerships to the new account. However, now the new account is acting the same way.
What, if any, significance is there to the following message shown in the rkhunter.log?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a directory: /var/www/html/something/
and it's got tons of files and directories, some containing hidden files.
I want to move all the contents of something including hidden files up to the site root at: /var/www/html/
What is the proper command for this?
just a general weirdness, but some folders that are in my /home folder don't show up. if i check "show hidden folders", they still don't show up. for all terms and purposes, they are simply not there. however, if i search for them through the search tool, or beagle, they show up as being in my /home folder. so, anyone have any idea how this happened, or how i can remedy this?

I just noticed that I find lots of hidden files named ".directory.lock.??????.test" across my samba-shared file system. The questionmarks stand here for some random alpha-numeric patterm.
- Which application might have created them?
- Is it save to delete those ?
With e.g. "find . -type f -name ".directory.lock.??????.test" -exec rm -f {} ;"

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install WoW on my Ubuntu machine and I'm having trouble right off the hop. I'm using an install DVD thru wine and it says since the Installer.exe is hidden I need to remount my drive with the unhide option on.
I'm following this guide [URL]
This is the part of the guide I'm getting stuck at
Note that on some WoW DVD's the installer executable is hidden and you need to re-mount the disc with the 'unhide' option. To do this type in a terminal:
sudo umount /dev/cdrom
sudo mount -t iso9660 -o ro,unhide /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0/
The unmount part works just fine but when I go to remount the drive it gives me this error:
mount: mount point /media/cdrom0/ does not exist
According to what I have read to date, Linux should let me hide or unhide a partition by just using gparted or parted, or reverting to fdisk. Well, all three say you can do it, but none of them does. According to several sources, there is software available under DOS or Windows for the purpose, but I want to do it as a separate boot method or under Ubuntu when I boot up Live.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to look at a file and find 6 or more consecutive consonants (everything except a vowel). However I have a hidden $ character at the end of each line in the file. For some reason I can't reference to it in any of the pattern searching commands.
For example: grep '[^aeiouAEIOU$]{6,}' file| more
This command returns words that contain 5 consonants at the end (because it interprets the hidden $ as not a vowel). How can I make it ignore the hidden character? Or more specifically how do I refer to the hidden character in my pattern searches?
