Something seems to be wrong with the form redraw. When I open a movie in movieplayer, it looks Ok until I try to resize the window or move it. Then it draws crazy, repeats elements in the form, and kills the movie image. You can still hear it, but it's black. Something is up with the software that draws apps on the screen. Have you seen this or have an idea what might be going on?

View 6 Replies View RelatedBecause I have Windows and two different Linux distributions installed, I have two GRUBs on my system. The first one that starts when I boot the computer is Linux Mint's GRUB. It can run Mint, Windows, or Kubuntu's GRUB, which in turn can run Kubuntu. Right now I mostly use Kubuntu, but I haven't changed the setup of the GRUBs because it worked. Until yesterday, when Mint's GRUB worked well, but Kubuntu's GRUB gave me an error while trying to run Kubuntu. I restarted the computer a few times, and it happened every time. Sometimes the errors I got were 16 and sometimes 18. Occasionally, even the first GRUB had errors.
I thought that maybe something's wrong with my hard disk, so I booted from a Kubuntu Live CD and did a fsck, which showed no errors at all (except that it's rather suspicious, because it checked the partition instantly, is it supposed to work like that?). Then, I reinstalled Kubuntu's GRUB and rebooted the computer. This time, everything went well! I even rebooted it later once, and didn't get any errors.
Today, I got up and wanted to use the computer, and it gave me the same errors again. :O I rebooted a few times, and it was just like before. Then, I booted from the Live CD, there I didn't start the system, but I picked "boot from hard drive" and it miraculously worked. This is weird. What could possibly cause these errors? I haven't even installed or updated anything recently.
did a search and I can't believe I seem to be only person reporting this. It's been a bug since I did a fresh install of 10.04 UNR, but it's only gotten to the tipping point where I actually HAVE to do something about it today. I finally cracked.As you can see in the screen shot attached the one line text box (ie, search bars mostly, but the thread title in this case) stretches way beyond length it is supposed to. For the first screen shot I have "zoomed out" to give a better idea of the full effect, the second screen is what I see during normal browsing.If anyone could help me fix this error it would be greatly appreciated. I've tried both Firefox and Chrome (and Chromium) and the same issue occours. The screen shot is taken from Chrome 5.0.375.70

Don't really know what could be causing this, the other day my messages in queue was at like 5,000 or so, but now its up to 445,000 messages in queue!! All of them that exact message.
after a few recent updates, i've noticed firefox is crashing like crazy.5-10 minutes with pandora loaded... crash.2 minutes of videos videos... ka-boom.anyone else seeing this? i tried to report it to bugzilla but the 02938472093874 packages it wanted to download never finished, so i couldn't give an actual report.
View 14 Replies View RelatedSlackware 13.37 is giving me ugly suspend/resume problems.When I suspend to RAM and my laptop wakes up again, I get a corrupt screen flashing like crazy.This happens when I suspend from the console and when in X11; be it by issuing 'echo mem >/sys/power/state' or 'pm-suspend'.Tried the 'save-pci' quirk for 'pm-suspend', no dice.Tried to POST the card with 'vbetool' after resume, no dice. Tried to save/restore vbestate before and after suspend/resume, no dice.What is one supposed to do to get this stuff to work in 2011?Funny thing that suspend-to-disk works as it should.Also, with 12.2 I would pick a VGA mode for the console in 'lilo.conf' and it would freaking stick. Not anymore. Now the 1st half of the boot is performed in my chosen mode (80x30), then it switches to maximum resolution with an idiotically unsightly small font.My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5101 with an ATI Radeon 200M card.Is anyone going thru the same hell or has anyone found a fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs mentioned in the title something is terribly wrong with my system. After some updates in the last 2 days Plasma keeps on crashing like a jackhammer. Kwin reports bugs and siece to work. That said I have no borders of any window I have opened and no Kickstart menu. (I am using KDE 4.4.1.) On top of it all when I rebooted the system it just hangs when it is supposed to start X and KDM. When I switch to verbose boot I see that Avahi Daemon has a "Failed" sign. I have tried with older kernels, but that did not solve anything. To be honest I am clueless on how to fix Avahi. The easiest way is to reinstall Fedora, but I would have stuck with Windows for that and where is the learning opportunity in that?

I have been issued a static IP address. I have configured my Linksys server to reserve an address for my Ubuntu Web Server. When I try to get to my web site the connection times out not getting there. I remembered I had to forward some services, ports over to the reserved IP address for the server. View 3 Replies View Relatedubuntu 10.04 Easy Peasy eeepc 900I have messed up my home directory and can not get out of the messI wanted to move the /home to be on the 16gb partition instead of the default which was on the 4gb with the installation. I copied/saved /home to a temporary directory and then moved the contents of /home to the 16gb disk and mounted it on /home At this stage all seemed to be working correctly and applications worked as before. However when I rebooted it can not find my home directory, complains a lot, and if you bypass the messages ends up with a minimal GUI screen which does not respond to anything I tried. It seems that the 16gb disk is not being mounted.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64 with KVM and several VMs running the same OS. Everything was running fine and the VMs were using the host's network via bridging. The decision was made to move the server to completely different network. I shut it down, the system was moved and hooked up, and I got it up on the new network pretty easily--just modified /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf. No networking problems at all.
Then I fired up virt-manager, powered up one of the VMs, and made the same kinds of changes. It's not talking beyond the VM server. I can ping the host, but can't ping the gateway. "tcpdump -i eth0" shows plenty of traffic.
I've been attempting to install Virtualbox 3.1 on my desktop using the "Add and Remove Software" facility. All attempts result in failure with the "Details" error message box issuing

Although I've been dabbling for a while I'm somewhat of a newbie so bear with me: Rather than rebuild my Hardy Server due to root being full, I followed suggestions to create another logical volume on the volume group and put root there. I must have missed some fundamental step. Although the partition appears to be functional, the defined space isn't visible and I am stumped:

Prior to the holidays I did something 'stupid' within Wine and ended up taking out my Ubuntu partition to the point where it wouldn't boot. Being that I have a triple boot system and I had plans for the holidays, I didn't want to risk a reinstall in the event that if something went wrong with Grub, it would render my whole system useless. So I waited until now to reinstall Ubuntu. I performed the reinstall this past weekend and for the most part I thought everything went fine, but I noticed something was different with the file system.
When I attempted to load a 3.5gig program into Ubuntu yesterday, I got an error message saying that I don't have enough disk space. I said to my self, "That is impossible as I have a 106gig partition for programs". I have a separated system in which Ubuntu /root has an 8gig partition and the Home partition supposed to be the 106gig drive. I did this in the event I had to reinstall, I wouldn't loose my information. Well apparently something went wrong with the install and it appears that I have two Home folders...one is on the 106gig drive and the other is in the root directory.
Making note of that explained why my program wouldn't load because the root partition is only 8gig. So, my question is this: Can I set Ubuntu back to the old Home directory, or do I have to reinstall once again? As what under my avatar says, I am on Ubuntu Studio 8.04 (Hardy Heron). I stuck with this older version because it has long term support. I have a triple boot system with Windows XP, Puppy Linux, and Ubuntu Studio. I have two SATA 500gig drives with the first drive being home to all the operating systems and programs. The second drive is just for data.
Here is my fdisk -l I put the partitions usage in parenthesis:

But I'm curious as to if drivers installed on Ubuntu can be moved/copied over to windows. I have been trying for weeks to get my sound card to work in my system. It's a kind of older Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card and windows will not recognize it nor will any drivers I install work. To my surprise, I was messing with the audio options after my first ever install and test of Ubuntu (thoroughly impressed and excited btw), I noticed that my sound card was listed as a hardware option. I'd use ubuntu 24/7 if other computers, my HTPC, xbox, ect could connect to my media. I use windows for games, and such, so having the sound card installed would be a huge plus.
