after a few recent updates, i've noticed firefox is crashing like crazy.5-10 minutes with pandora loaded... crash.2 minutes of videos videos... ka-boom.anyone else seeing this? i tried to report it to bugzilla but the 02938472093874 packages it wanted to download never finished, so i couldn't give an actual report.

Restarts, runs for a while, then crashes.Thought it might be an IPTABLES turf war with the native Fedora 10 gui firewall manager, so disabled that at System > Admin > Firewall. Also disabled SElinux. Still have problems.Firestarter firewall seems to work OK, just the gui Firestarter monitor/manager.If anyone has ideas as to cause, I'll take a clue.I could use Firestarter to generate the IPTABLES by ..manually editing the /etc/firestarter/inbound|outbound/allow-.. files and then../etc/init.d/firestarter restartBut I find the events log useful to look at. Anyone know where the events log file is kept in the file system?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 10.4 on a Sony vaio and I never had troubles with the previous versions.just in those days something strange is happening. With no apparent reason, few applications running, the system will just freeze...sometimes I would be able to open a further application, some other things not. I have tried everything (in my knowledge)after which I simply use Alt F2, call the terminal and reboot (the only operation that the system will allow me to do.I have found no pattern of behaviour but his has happened with the following application running
Firefox, Openoffice and Rhythmbox
Firefox and Torrent
now Firefox alone (yes it might be firefox...but still, if I am not wrong it happened also when firefox was shut and I was working on openoffice)now I have logged on into xfce environment to write this message (and I am using Midori as browser)..
As mentioned in the title something is terribly wrong with my system. After some updates in the last 2 days Plasma keeps on crashing like a jackhammer. Kwin reports bugs and siece to work. That said I have no borders of any window I have opened and no Kickstart menu. (I am using KDE 4.4.1.) On top of it all when I rebooted the system it just hangs when it is supposed to start X and KDM. When I switch to verbose boot I see that Avahi Daemon has a "Failed" sign. I have tried with older kernels, but that did not solve anything. To be honest I am clueless on how to fix Avahi. The easiest way is to reinstall Fedora, but I would have stuck with Windows for that and where is the learning opportunity in that?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using mencoder to capture audio from a Encore ENLTV-FM3 video capture device. I have recently noticed that, since one week ago, when the machine was forcibly restarted due to a power outage, all recordings are slightly pitched, they play back slower than they should.
I narrowed down the problem to the following command line:

Somehow, mencode managed to gather precisely 10 minutes worth of raw audio in 9m 55s. That's not physically possible, unless the capture device's A/D converters are "overclocked". I can't think of any other explanation besides hardware failure. Can that be? Could it be that something got burnt during the power outage and now the capture device's internal clock went nuts?
Since the machine's restart, I've also noticed dmesg is flooded with entries like this:
CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to XXX nsec
Which seem to indicate that the computer's high precision event timer is somehow out of sync. Does this have to do with the audio issue? Can it be that the audio converter's sample rate is linked to the HPET? I'm totally lost here. Has anyone bumped into something similar?
I cant get Xubuntu to to work on both a specific resolution & a refresh rate at the same time?! what should I do?!the resolution is listed with only one refresh rate! :Slately I don't know what happened to my monitor..but it's shaky all of a sudden..I read articles about that..no new hardware was installed...the card is in it's place..but suddenly it needed to work on @85Hz while it was working on 60@ish or something..t, regardless of the monitor thing...how can I change the refresh rate without changing the resolution on Xubuntu?
View 6 Replies View RelatedBecause I have Windows and two different Linux distributions installed, I have two GRUBs on my system. The first one that starts when I boot the computer is Linux Mint's GRUB. It can run Mint, Windows, or Kubuntu's GRUB, which in turn can run Kubuntu. Right now I mostly use Kubuntu, but I haven't changed the setup of the GRUBs because it worked. Until yesterday, when Mint's GRUB worked well, but Kubuntu's GRUB gave me an error while trying to run Kubuntu. I restarted the computer a few times, and it happened every time. Sometimes the errors I got were 16 and sometimes 18. Occasionally, even the first GRUB had errors.
I thought that maybe something's wrong with my hard disk, so I booted from a Kubuntu Live CD and did a fsck, which showed no errors at all (except that it's rather suspicious, because it checked the partition instantly, is it supposed to work like that?). Then, I reinstalled Kubuntu's GRUB and rebooted the computer. This time, everything went well! I even rebooted it later once, and didn't get any errors.
Today, I got up and wanted to use the computer, and it gave me the same errors again. :O I rebooted a few times, and it was just like before. Then, I booted from the Live CD, there I didn't start the system, but I picked "boot from hard drive" and it miraculously worked. This is weird. What could possibly cause these errors? I haven't even installed or updated anything recently.
Something seems to be wrong with the form redraw. When I open a movie in movieplayer, it looks Ok until I try to resize the window or move it. Then it draws crazy, repeats elements in the form, and kills the movie image. You can still hear it, but it's black. Something is up with the software that draws apps on the screen. Have you seen this or have an idea what might be going on?

Don't really know what could be causing this, the other day my messages in queue was at like 5,000 or so, but now its up to 445,000 messages in queue!! All of them that exact message.
did a search and I can't believe I seem to be only person reporting this. It's been a bug since I did a fresh install of 10.04 UNR, but it's only gotten to the tipping point where I actually HAVE to do something about it today. I finally cracked.As you can see in the screen shot attached the one line text box (ie, search bars mostly, but the thread title in this case) stretches way beyond length it is supposed to. For the first screen shot I have "zoomed out" to give a better idea of the full effect, the second screen is what I see during normal browsing.If anyone could help me fix this error it would be greatly appreciated. I've tried both Firefox and Chrome (and Chromium) and the same issue occours. The screen shot is taken from Chrome 5.0.375.70
View 9 Replies View RelatedSlackware 13.37 is giving me ugly suspend/resume problems.When I suspend to RAM and my laptop wakes up again, I get a corrupt screen flashing like crazy.This happens when I suspend from the console and when in X11; be it by issuing 'echo mem >/sys/power/state' or 'pm-suspend'.Tried the 'save-pci' quirk for 'pm-suspend', no dice.Tried to POST the card with 'vbetool' after resume, no dice. Tried to save/restore vbestate before and after suspend/resume, no dice.What is one supposed to do to get this stuff to work in 2011?Funny thing that suspend-to-disk works as it should.Also, with 12.2 I would pick a VGA mode for the console in 'lilo.conf' and it would freaking stick. Not anymore. Now the 1st half of the boot is performed in my chosen mode (80x30), then it switches to maximum resolution with an idiotically unsightly small font.My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5101 with an ATI Radeon 200M card.Is anyone going thru the same hell or has anyone found a fix?

After enough searching I got Adobe Air to install, but I can't get it to install Pandora. It keeps telling me to try again or, if it keeps happening, contact the publisher. i have a similar problem on videos. some videos play fine, others won't start. everything works fine on my windows xp laptop running firefox 4. i'm suspecting problems with iceweasel and/or the flash player (i have the gnu one installed). are there any know issues?

I have reinstalled Fedora 11 i386 four times now. After I install the Nvidia drivers from rpmfusion I start having intermittent problems with no sound at bootup. Null output. I've posted here about this problem but received no responses so this must not be a common problem.
Would it be possible to change the order that the drivers load so the nvidia driver loads after the sound drivers?
I loaded Fedora 10 onto my Lenovo T60 last week. everyday i boot it up and it works fine for a few minutes, then freezes. to the point of powering off. my mouse still works but nothing else. i power back up and it generally stays up after that.
Before i had Fedora i was useing PCLinux 2009 and it worked just fine. i get a kernel error alert every once in a while. i finally submitted it to Fedora to be reported. also a flash plugin says it is needed at times but most media plays.
Is there something i'm missing here? like i need to add an additional update? i already updated/installed most Fedora 10 updates.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to Linux, and have broken many more things than I have fixed.. I guess that's the learning process eh? So here's my problem: I've been experimenting with the mount command, and have mounted my local file system (sda1) to a directory (/mnt/test). I was attempting to mount an external hard drive, and sda1 clearly was not the correct drive (I did eventually discover where the external was located, however sda1 remains tied to that directory). I rebooted my system, and now the Grub command prompt loads. When I type "boot" I'm presented with "Error 8: Kernel must be loaded before booting". I'm assuming this is because I mounted my local file system, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any ideas how I could remedy this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a pretty quick machine, quad core 2.66GHz duo processor, nice ASUS motherboard, high speed memory bus and so on. Basically, this is not a machine that's getting "maxed out" by playing some music.Load averages for the 4 processors according to htop are 1.48, 1.25, 0.85. Looking at the System Monitor CPU history I am seeing an average of perhaps 25% load.
However, when I am in a shell, I am getting a second or longer waits between key presses at times.My only guess as to why is that may be is that the streaming audio is on some very high priority so everything else gets put on the back burner. In any case, does anyone have any experience with this and a possible tweak that would give everything else a "fair go" so things didn't seem so unresponsive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did, but I did something recently, as Pandora keeps getting dependency errors. Pandora is working just fine, but if I open the Software Center, it tells me it needs to fix itself before it can do anything. If I do this, Pandora gets removed. And I have an error box next to the Pandora icon on the upper right bar, telling me: An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: 'Error: BrockenCount>0' This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies. And this is on a 64bit Maverick install, though it was doing the same on the 64bit Lucid install (I just did the Maverick beta upgrade today).

I use Pandora desktop app, so I don't want to remove it. But I don't have any idea what the problem here is.
I want to raise an issue that needs some expert to help explain. As we know, Windows software can be run from GNU/Linux using an emulator. In that case, can some windows-borne virus or malware get an opportunity to infect your GNU/Linux system through the emulator?
I myself am switching to GNU/Linux because of the windows viruses. However, I still have many important database software that can only be done in windows environment. Currently all my windows stuff is quarantined in a separate partition(And I'm sure it contains some virus). I am worrying using an emulator will open the Pandora's box.
I am so tired of this funky blue icon for Pandora radio applet in AWN. There is no option to change the icon anywhere.I have no idea where to find it even,Can this be changed? Is there some location it is hiding that I can go in and change it with something nicer?
