View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently have Decided to Try Ubuntu, So i choose the Windows Installer Method. I am Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a 1 TB Drive with a 250GB and 500GB Secondarys. I have more than enough power to run the System this is a Custom Built $1700 Gaming Rig.So i downloaded the Installer and choose the 500GB Drive which is not the Windows Drive for Ubuntu to install to. The installer went through Successfully no issues i did the Reboot as Prompted and Choose the Ubuntu from the Duel Boot Screen but when it loads it can not find any Build information. What did i do wrong?Could it be that i need to have it attached to the same drive as my Windows operating System or am i not doing something correctly? I followed all the directions from the Installer Information on the Download Site

Is it possible to download the programs to a USB thumb drive, so there is no space used up in the already limited 4 GB SSD?
Tried to place a program on the Desktop, and then move it to a USB thumb drive, but it did not work.
I just downloaded the Netbook edition of Ubuntu 10.10, and created a bootable USB disk as per the instructions on the website.
I open the OS through my USB, click the "Install Ubuntu" button, click forward, and then comes my problem.
I don't have an option to "Install alongside other OS"
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on an HP Mini 210..
I would like to have the option to install winxp or ubuntu from the same 4gb drive. Is there any easy way to do this?

View 4 Replies View Relatedfinally got mostly everything fixed on my opensuse 11.3. 11.3 is my only os on my laptop right now and I want to be able to dual boot with backtrack4. I used to have bt3 but it was on a usb loading up with winxp. Anyway, I've downloaded the iso image and after hours of forum reading I figured out how to mount the iso image. Doing so allows me just to look at the files. Is there an install file somewhere I'm missing?
Also, couldn't ever figure out how to partition my drive to make room for bt4. Tried downloading gparted and failed. Tried using the expert partitioner program that came with this system but it won't allow me to create another partition. Couldn't ever find a reason why. Will bt4 allow me to create a partition upon installation? How do I install?
i haven't got any external dvd writer, i must use a usb to install it. Now i have debian Squeeze installed in the netbook. I want to , once downloaded the iso , make a windows 7 usb flash install media to install from it, but make it using debian. So this is why ask here.I have been investigating a bit , and i have found a post in server fault with some methods to create it. (but i don't know what will be better)
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe thread's title is very eloquent:I have a Windows 7 ISO image and I would like to "burn" it on a bootable USB pen in order to install it on a netbook.Obviously I am on openSUSE, and all I read so far was instructions to burn an opensuse or any linux distros (the "dd" tales)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue where i can not seem to figure out how to install windows 7 on unbuntu. I have a netbook and it has no cd drive so what i did was copy all the windows 7 installation files over to my desktop in a new folder and just ran the setup.exe using 'Wine'. That goes ok and it pops up saying install windows 7. After hit that it tells me"."Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

I extracted the iso file.

I have windows xp installed on C drive and wanted to install it on D.
I need to put Windows 7 on here, I have the ISO file. I don't have a cd-rom drive, only a USB port. None of the applications on here allow me to put Windows 7 onto the flash drive, I tried multiple commands to 'try' but they all failed. I searched online for most of the day, some said to try Win-To-Flash but of course it only runs in Windows, I tried it in wine only to get a error message. I also tried Windows 7 usb-dvd-download from cnet download. I ran them all in XP, Vista, 7 and what-not and they still come up with a error that keeps me from continuing. I also tried running the command "sudo dd if=/home/sean/Downloads/X15-65732.iso of=/dev/sdb1" without the quotes of course, but it appeared to only copy the contents and doesn't load Windows 7.
I need to, I'm guessing, burn it to the flash drive. Its a Centon Data Stick Pro 4GB. I also tried USB Startup Disk Creator but it only works with Ubuntu .ISO's not Windows, and half the time or well basically all the time it never pulls up the ISO when i click on it I'm not sure why? I also tried Unetbootin, but it doesn't work with Windows. It only shows 'default' and 10. Clicking on Enter does nothing. Nothing loads. how to install Windows 7 to a USB flash drive? Or should I try running a windows program from some other computer just to do this task?
Somewhere during my installation, I forgot to make my Windows partition (as well as a drive that linux associates with Windows) writable. Is there any way to make them writable, without re-installing everything?

View 9 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I reformatted my hard drive to just run Ubuntu. Now I need to install Windows XP but when I put in the install disk it says it can't find a hard drive. I'm guessing this is because the hard drive is formatted to a Linux-specific ext4/extended/linux-swap set-up. The ext4 partition is 71GB and only uses 13GB. I have 57GB free. I can see all this in Gparted but how do I now split that ext4 up and free some space for ntfs partition for Windows? Indeed is this what I should be doing? Obviously I can't unmount the ext4 bit whilst in Ubuntu.
Ultimately I want to do a complete reformat of the hard disk and just install Windows XP for the time being (I'm handing the laptop in for a hardware service).

I used Wubi to do the install and pointed it to D drive because it was basically free except for itunes... anyway, once it had finished, I turned off my laptop, turned it back on and it showed Windows and Ubuntu, I loaded Ubuntu and it said it was continuing installation, anyway it said copying files, and stuff and I didn't know if it was overwriting vista so it would go on the C drive instead of the D drive. Anyway, I just want Ubuntu on D and Vista on C. Is Ubuntu gonna' overwrite Vista?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently scapped XP Pro on an old laptop (Toshiba Portege 7220)as it was so slow and I installed Ubuntu 9.10 - All installed ok and it worked fine for about a month. Last week I switched on, got the Ubuntu splash screen and thats where it stayed. I gave lappy to a friend of mine that knows about Pc's (hahaha). When I got it back he said he'd wiped the HDD and partially installed xp. The install apparantly hung after the reformat and copying files onto it.My problem now is I can't boot from HDD, Ubuntu Live CD or Windows CD - Laptop is set to boot from cd then hdd. When I try to boot from CD, the cd is read as I hear the drive being used also see light for cd flashing, after a while i get a blank screen with flashing cursor in top left corner and the cd stops. If I remove the HDD and put it in external usb caddy I can see the windows folders/files when plugged into my desk top.My questions are :-
1. Is there any way to make the drive reusable as a internal drive again as I know it works as an external drive.I would like to reinstall Ubuntu on it
2. Is it a fault with the laptop itself - how do I check

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed a second hard drive in my laptop with windows 7 on one drive and Ubuntu on the other. I selected the side-by-side install in the Ubuntu install and let Ubuntu do the rest. Unfortunately Grub isn't seeing the windows install even after reconfiguring grub. However, the windows 7 drive is visible in Ubuntu and all the windows files are there intact.
Does anyone know how I can make grub see Windows 7 so I can boot into it?

I have a USB drive on which I want to install Arch Linux (using the installer, not unetbootin or something similar, as I want the drive to be persistent.) The computer from which I want to boot this USB supports booting from a USB floppy, not a normal drive. Is there any way for me to make a USB floppy on another drive and use that to boot the normal USB drive?
