OpenSUSE Install :: Make A Bootable USB Stick From A WINDOWS ISO?

The thread's title is very eloquent:I have a Windows 7 ISO image and I would like to "burn" it on a bootable USB pen in order to install it on a netbook.Obviously I am on openSUSE, and all I read so far was instructions to burn an opensuse or any linux distros (the "dd" tales)

Ubuntu :: Install And Make Bootable A Usb Stick?

Feb 10, 2010

how I can install and make bootable a usb stick. I have tried multiple walkthroughs on this subject and not one of them has worked, i am trying to do this via windows, i cant get any workable wifi drivers for linux i have an atheros wifi card. the closest i have come to getting the usb to work is the splash screen then it freezes and this was with linux live usb creator 2.0 it doesn't matter which ones i've tried i can't get them to work no matter what version i try to use. it's driving me mad.

i want the usb to boot without having a hardrive present in the computer. i just got a possible driver that will work for my wifi card and i will put that on the stick too then install it when i get the usb stick to boot into linux. i honestly dont know why there are so many walkthroughs on this subject that dont work it's silly. oh and besides bookmarking each post i make where is the button that links you to your own posts without having to manually search them out?

General :: Make USB Bootable Stick For Installing Fedora Or Centos Using VNC?

Sep 3, 2011

I have a PC with no option for a keyboard. I have to install the operating systems without a keyboard or mouse.

I have to make a bootable USB stick which can allow me to connect to the PC from my Laptop with a VNC connection, then the complete installation using IP to IP. I did this with the following:

Download [URL] Extract the files of .iso to my laptop Add the manual file in CentOS-6.0-i386-minimal/isolinux/ks.cfg

install
lang en_US.UTF-8
keyboard us
timezone --utc Europe/Brussels
rootpw --iscrypted $6$i5qEWD.
selinux --disabled

[Code]....

This allows you to modify your original iso files with the new contents and pack it as one .iso file

Finally load unetbootin and burn to your USB or disk or CD

OpenSUSE Install :: Create A Live USB Stick In A Pendrive With Files Available For Windows?

Nov 14, 2010

I've put openSUSE several times in USB flash drives. I've used the old method with dd ... and the new one with dd_rescue ..., shown in SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE This way a partition is created (sdb1 or sdc1 or ...), with the Linux file system (ID: 83). One of the problems of this system is that all the data of the pendrive is deleted. Another problem is that sometimes openSUSE doesn't load completely and I cannot use it. And another of the problems is that even if I create another partition (for example to make the Live USB persistent and "remember" the configuration of my computer) and I put some of my photos, songs, films there when I plug the pendrive in a computer running Windows XP I cannot access the data. (What about Vista and 7?)

Other Linux distros can be put in pendrives using the FAT file system (for example W95 FAT32 (LBA), ID: c). This way my personal data or files (photos, documents, ...) can be opened from a computer running Windows XP (and the personal data is not erased when putting the Linux in the pendrive). So I would like to know how to create a Live USB drive with personal files that are avaiable for many Operating Systems, including Windows XP. Perhaps the solution is to put openSUSE in a FAT file system, or put it in Linux file system but create another partition with FAT file system (for this openSUSE should avoid the 1st partition, sdX1, that should be for the personal data, so Windows XP can access it).

General :: Windows - Formatting A Memory Stick With Two Partitions?

Apr 18, 2010

I have a 16GB memorystick which used to have a Linux partition. It therefore has two partitions; 2GB FAT32 and 14GB linux boot drive. The linux part stopped working, so I decided to reinstall it. But windows can't see that partition. I tried formatting the whole disk, but I can only format one partition (the FAT32). There seems to be no way to combine the two partitions into one big one, and there seems to be no way for windows to partition the large part of the memorystick to but Linux on it. In the windows partition manager, windows sees the large unused partition, and it let me delete it. But once I have deleted it, I'm not allowed to format it. Also I cannot delete or resize the small partition. I have a memorystick with two partitons. Windows only sees one of them, and won't let me use the other one. I would like to combine the two partitions so I can install Linux on the memory stick again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Install On Samsung N250 Netbook / Test Works By Running From USB Stick First (without Removing Windows 7)?

Jun 28, 2011

am currently using Windows 7 across my networked PCs at home.

I've just received my new Samsung N250 Plus Netbook which comes with Windows 7 Starter (yuk). I read a post on Ebuyer from someone who has installed ubuntu on his N250 so thought I'd give it a go tonight.

My main concern is whether my wi-fi card (Broadcom 802.11n according to windows) will work when I remove windows and install ubuntu. I intend to use the netbook for internet use only while working abroad.

Is it possible to test it works by running ubuntu from my USB stick first (without removing windows 7)?

Ubuntu :: Dual Booted With Windows 7 From A USB Stick WIndows Is Dependent On The USB To Boot?

Jan 19, 2011

I recently moved and didnt have internet. Out of a fit of boredom i decided to get me Ubuntu 10.10 disk and dual boot. My laptop has a SD slot in the front of it that has never been used so i decided that itd be cool to have ubuntu on an SD card that i could boot any time. I used the default installer to install it onto the SD card instead of using the Universal USB Installer (i imagine this is where i went wrong). It installed and everything works fine and when i boot up it lets me choose between Linux and Windows when the SD card is inserted. When it is not i get this screen http://imgur.com/gg63v. The only really problem is me worrying that the sd card will be lossed or get broke and i will no longer be able to access Windows. Is there anyway i can set the windows boot loader back t the default bootloader (i think this is what need to be done i may be completely wrong>

I cannot locate any configuration file to edit, and nothing in the gconf editor seems to apply.

General :: Make Display Switchable Between Two Windows?

Aug 29, 2011

I must display two different windows (different application) on a single X display/screen., with a small sticky window that display buttons to switch from one (virtual) screen to the other.

Although I thought this would be an easy task for a simple window manager like fvwm, I didn't get it to work.

I've tried fvwm in combination with the FvwmPager, but I keep getting problems to place the different windows in the different virtual desk or page (automatically).

e.g. if you do: xterm -title "Hello" and xterm -title "There", I want Hello to go to virtual screen 1 and There to go to virtual screen 2.

I've also tried using metacity and switching between workspaces.

Is there an example configuration available? I'm not fixed on a specific window manager.
