I tried to delete the printer and re-adding it again with the same driver, but it failed with an error message: Bad device-uri "cnij_usb:/dev/usb/lp0"! I have been printing with this laser printer (connected via LAN) for months without a single glitch, when suddenly today I had to quickly print a document. I could not print it. At first I thought the printer was off, then I double checked it was on. I restarted the CUPS server, reinstalled the printer in CUPS, nothing will work. When I send a print job, (I am using XFCE btw), I see the printer icon in the tasktray and it has a small warning sign.
Opening the print queue, I see "Processing - Printer Warning". In cups, I see nothing unusual. It says (in the printer queue): processing since Sat 25 Jun 2011 10:13:30 AM EDT. I can print a test page FROM the Printer web interface, confirming the printer works. I can print with the other printers. CUPS detects the printer and does not report anything unusual. What is going on with CUPS?
I have an HP Photosmart USB printer that I configured with HPLIP (which seemingly "exports" into CUPS). All is well until the printer is turned off and then back on again sometime later: somebody, somewhere automagically adds the printer to CUPS so that I have two, count 'em, printers defined.

i'm using a Lexmark Pro 905 printer , it's a local printer with Ethernet connection to the pc.I installed the driver and this used to work on 11.2, now with openSUSE 11.3 it's not working. THe yast test page comes out but nothing is printed from open office.I opened port 661 UDP in the firewall but still no result comes from open office.I then added the printer in cups but i still have an error and no print : ( cups-1.4.4-2.3.i586 )

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've found that my skype stopped working with recent -current updates ( around beta ... ). It was looking for a libuuid.so.1 library - on checking I found the 64-bit version but no 32-bit version - quite strange as this has been working fine since my original slackware64 13.0 installation. Anyhow, I got the 32-bit util-linux package, did the 32-bit package convert thing and skype is now working:
1. convertpkg-compat32 -i util-linux-ng-2.17.2-i486-1.txz
2. un-archive
3. copy the libuuid lib to /lib and soft-link in /usr/lib
I didn't install the whole compat package as this is not really necessary I think.
So, approx 2 weeks ago, clicking on links in Thunderbird stopped working. There is no response in the browser whether it is open or not. I am able to paste the links to the browser just fine. Being congenitally lazy, I would rather just click them. I have upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird and have the same issue. I have tried using Swiftfox, Firefox and Opera - all give the same non-response.
Am not getting any error messages, the links just do not open. Can't find any settings relevant to this issue.Any bright ideas out there?
I stuck a flash drive into a usb port this morning, and the device notifier failed to show. I opened Dolphin, and I noticed that nothing that should be mounted was showing up in the left pane. I always have seen my Windows install, as well as another partition that has Slackware. I can navigate to /mnt/vista and its all there. I can also go to /mnt/Slackware and its all there. However, the flash drive does not show.I can manually mount the drive and all is well as root. I can't even tell you when this started. I am using Alien's 4.6 KDE packages with all the deps. I just opened mc and checked everything. HAL is disabled and has been for a long time. All did work after disabling HAL.Its not just the flash drive, it effects anything - music cds, blank media, nothing works automagically. Google hasn't

Installed fedora/configued samba, shared printer and i am not able to access shared printer from any of the fedora machine. I am able to access the printer /shared folder from windows machine. I dont know the process of cups installation.

On Slackware64 13.0 it worked flawlessly, but now everytime I print it is just solid black on the whole page. I usually selected either the ML-2250 driver or the ML-2551N driver and it worked, but now I have this problem with both of them. I print a lot, so I need a working printer. It works fine in Windows 7. This is a network attached printer.

Not using the web interface, or the GUI of another computer connected to the CUPS server.I always get to the point shown in the attached screenshot, and then I am asked for a password, which never works. I've practically slaughtered my cupsd.conf, and it now looks like this:

After much work, I got a PPD file for a Dell printer working - albeit not the exact one I need (5330dn), but close enough to work (3100cn). Question: when I look at the list of printers in CUPS, I see a bunch of extra printers that are on the network, but that I didn't add. How do I remove them (ie. I have a HP Officejet G85 and I just upgraded my system, which included the whole printer subsystem, and lost my printing. I have tried adding it via KDE's print dialog as well as directly via CUPS (localhost:631), to no avail.

But I haven't done this for a while now and kde take really long to load. Is there any folder to clean up there without deleting the whole .kde-folder and loosing all my settings again?
I'm working on CUPS server here now, I am new to the whole Fedora area, I'm starting to like it, tackling one service after the other. I have cups, which I don't recall installing but was there guess its a default. So I added a printer on my server, that was on a 10.0.1.1 block, added it as lpd://10.0.1.1/lab3printer. Ok that worked and printed from my server, but my problem is when other machines try to add the printer. I continue getting this problem

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have a Zebra S4M label printer that I have managed to get mostly working under CUPS. To make that work, I have the printer upgraded with the latest firmware, CUPS 1.4.1 with its AppArmor profile disabled and the Zebra EPL/ZPL ppd file that's floating about the internet loaded into cups. The printer is connected via USB to the computer, and is set up in cups using ZPL. The computer acts as a print server for other computers, and everything seems to work ok, with one exception. When the printer runs out of paper or runs out of ink ribbon, the printer stops and displays an error on screen, but CUPS never stops. It keeps taking jobs, sends them to the printer and reports that everything is A-OK. It appears at a certain point, the printer's memory gets full and then CUPS sort of hangs.
But it still doesn't display and errors or stop the quque, it just starts this weird behavior where it eats jobs or combines them into one giant job that it just sits on. What I need is for CUPS to know that the printer is out of paper or ribbon and pause the queue until the error status is clear. I know that this printer is communicating its status in some way, as when it's connected to a windows machine, the print queue stops when the paper runs out. How to get CUPS to recognize the printer status so that I'm not losing jobs? I've tried digging through the debug logs but there doesn't seems to be much help there. I do notice that from time to time CUPS says it's discarding "unused printer status changed" and "unused job progress" events but other than that, nothing I see of interest.
