I have recently brought a new iomega 1tb hard drive that works fine but there is a small problem.there are three folders that i deleted and when ever i close and reopen the nas drive the folders come back. the folders are called music, videos and pictures.the firmware version is 2.063.does any one else have this problem or know what to do...
View 3 RepliesI have an Acer Aspire One running Ubuntu and IOmega External USB Hard Drive 250GB to make up for the 16GB on the netbook. both have been running fine untilRecently I had the Iomega plugged into a Windows XP Laptop which froze, I disconnected the Iomega and switched off the Laptop and rebooted, when I re plugged in the Iomega It failed to display any Items after a little bit of time and one or two shutdowns the Iomega worked fine on the XPHowever when I plug the Iomega into the Netbook it appears under Files and folders but when I open it it just shows me a blank white screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsed gparted to format a brand new iomega prestige 1 tb usb hard drive (ntfs) to ext4. The problem is that I can't create folders from nautilus because I don't have permission (root). There is one folder present already lost + found that appeared after reformatting. i can't access that folder because of permissions. Was any of this supposed to happen after formatting an external drive and how can I fix this? I intend to use grsync to back up important folders but can't create folders from grsync also. The only account on ubuntu is mine and i have access to root privileges.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been installing/tweaking F12, and I've found something that I can't say I've ever seen or expected to find before: the contents of my ~/Documents folder has lost its permissions and ownership info. I restored it from a backup last night/this morning, and I've rebooted a few times since then. Other folders from the backup are OK, just Documents.I don't know what my options are. I could try to blow it away and restore it, but that doesn't answer what caused it. If there's a "relabel" or something, that might help... though I've never had to do it before. Could it be that after these two-and-some-change years, my hard drive is giving out? Good thing I have a recent backup... but it'd be a shame to lose all my work getting F12 to work again.

It's much larger than the current one, so I plan on splitting it up to dual boot it with Ubuntu.I have no problem with partitioning a drive (I always keep a LiveCD handy), but my question is this: how can I go about moving the existing partition to the new drive? This is a laptop, so I can't simply plug the new drive into another slot.
Also, even if I manage to move it, will Windows still work on the new drive in a larger partition? I've had this laptop for quite a while, and I've lost the recovery discs that came with it a long time ago. I also have a lot of software without CDs to reinstall them with. This makes not reinstalling Windows a high priority.
Trying to install Fedora 12 using the 6 CDs. Trying to install on an older x86 box.Problem is that when detecting my hard drive, Fedora 12 recognizes it as a sda hard drive instead of hda hard drive. I have no SCSI connected to my computer what so ever. It's an old fashion PATA Western Digital hard drive.If I proceed with the install, Fedora 12 only installs 200MB of the OS from the first CD only. No options for additional software or anything.

I have an external USB drive on which I have cloned my sda drive that contains my Ubuntu partition and an XP partition. Both of these partitions mount automatically. For some reason, Nautilus opens randomly on its own for each of these partitions. When this happens, two copies of Nautilus open; one for each of the partitions. I have not been able to discern any pattern for when nautilus opens. This actually began to happen in Maverick shortly before I upgraded to Natty. Any ideas on what the cause is and how I can stop this from happening?

I recently bought 320 GB Trancend external hard disk and working fine days back.Earlier i could copy from and to the hard disk with out any issue. When these hard drives are installed, if I try to access the SATA drive in Linux, it will start lightly clicking and then the drive will become unavailable. If I power on the machine without the other two hard drives then it works fine. What could be causing this to happen? I don't think it's heat because the two hard drives are far away from the SATA drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just booted one of my computers from a usb drive I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to, and when I booted it up on that computer, it worked fine. Then, when I powered down the computer and booted it back up to the main hard drive, it booted to the same that my flash drive was running, but my flash drive was not plugged in!! How is this possible? Did it copy itself over my other operating system? There is no trace of it. By the way, that, too, was ubuntu 10.04.

I am trying to move a whole bunch of files from one partition on one hard drive to the same partition on another hard drive. Can I mount the same partition (same name, different drives, i.e. /data on /dev/hda1 and /data on /dev/hdb1)and copy those files? Shutdown the server, take out /dev/hda1 and boot up with the new drive and it's /data contents.

The first Iomega disk was mounted as /media/Iomega, so all cron jobs referred to this mount. However, If we (safely) eject this disk and replace it by the second disk, this disk is mounted as /media/Iomega-1. How can i make that every disk change automatically mounts to /media/Iomega ?

Therefore, I am going to be cloning the 160gb drive to a 320gb drive to keep my system settings while I am waiting for my new drive. I will not change the size of the partitions to fill the 320gb drive. I'll just change the grub settings if I absolutely have to. After that, I am going to have to clone the 320gb drive back to the replacement 160gb drive. Am I going to have problems doing that since I will be going from a larger to a smaller drive?I typically use Clonezilla with the default settings.

On the first partition is installed winXP and on the second partition I have Suse 10.3, both booted by grub and living happily side by side. My second hard drive (which is formatted for windows is only 4GB.
My problem arises when I try to replace the 4GB with a 80Gb hard drive. When I disconnect the 4GB drive the system fails to boot up and complains with error 21.
