We are running CentOS 5 and we are using two identical Iomega USB disks for back-up. We change disk every end of the week. The first Iomega disk was mounted as /media/Iomega, so all cron jobs referred to this mount. However, If we (safely) eject this disk and replace it by the second disk, this disk is mounted as /media/Iomega-1. How can i make that every disk change automatically mounts to /media/Iomega ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHave Opensuse disabled support for Iomega external parport zip drives? I can mount the zip drive under Debian Lenny running the 2.6.26 kernel without any problems. Under Opensuse 10.3 (installed) and Opensuse 11.2 (liveCD) I can't access the drive. Opensuse doesn't recognize it.
All of which is odd. When I installed 10.3, the zip was seen an configured in fstab as /dev/sdc4 mounted at /media/zip. It worked fine for a while, then quit. Now, /dev/sdc4 doesn't exist. Kde control center says (hardware - partitions) says is there but not mounted. Hwinfo doesn't show it; modprobe imm does nothing.
I'm at a loss for ways and means to get Opensuse to recognize my zip drive.
I have an Acer Aspire One running Ubuntu and IOmega External USB Hard Drive 250GB to make up for the 16GB on the netbook. both have been running fine untilRecently I had the Iomega plugged into a Windows XP Laptop which froze, I disconnected the Iomega and switched off the Laptop and rebooted, when I re plugged in the Iomega It failed to display any Items after a little bit of time and one or two shutdowns the Iomega worked fine on the XPHowever when I plug the Iomega into the Netbook it appears under Files and folders but when I open it it just shows me a blank white screen.

1. Create logical partition on sda
2. Create logical partition on sdb (same size)
3. Change type to partition to 'fd' for both partitions
4. Check that the both partitions are same size and type fdisk -l /dev/sda && fdisk -l /dev/sdb
5. partprobe
6. Make sure there are no remains from previous RAID installations on /dev/sdb by running: mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda6 mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdb6
7. mdadm --create /dev/md4 --level=1 --raid-disks=2 /dev/sda6 /dev/sdb6
8. watch cat /proc/mdstat
9. update mdadm.conf mdadm --examine --scan | grep mdx >> /etc/mdadm.conf
10. Load twofish module [root@localhost ~]# modprobe twofish
11. # cryptsetup -y -c twofish-cbc-essiv:sha256 create ftdata /dev/md4 Enter passphrase: Verify passphrase:
12. mkfs.ext3 -b 4096 -R stride=8 /dev/mapper/ftdata
13. mkdir /ftdata
14. Mount the encrypted volume:

It mounts successfully this first time. When I cd /ftdata, I can see the lost+found dir

So why is it that I can't mount my encrypted volume after the first time? I am giving the correct password when it asks to.
if the Iomega 500gb minimax external usb hard drive is compatible with Linux Ubuntu 10.10, and does anyone have an opinion of the drive. Would I have to reformat it to get it to work with Linux.

on my Fedora 15 64 bit laptop, it crashes the whole box. (I'll post later the /var/log/messages extract). That machine has a usb 3 port. I'm most interested in making it work under Fedora 15 32 bit, but the crash under 64 bit may give other insight
I know how to get root access in iConnect and ssh into it. I wanted to know whether we can install any applications on it using the package manager and what package manager it supports, like apt(debian based) or is it based on some other distribution.

The problem is that I can't create folders from nautilus because I don't have permission (root). There is one folder present already lost + found that appeared after reformatting. i can't access that folder because of permissions. Was any of this supposed to happen after formatting an external drive and how can I fix this? I intend to use grsync to back up important folders but can't create folders from grsync also. The only account on ubuntu is mine and i have access to root privileges.

Or is something corrupted?Really perplexed by this. I updated Centos 5.5 to 5.6 to get ext4 (5.6 is supposed to have full support of ext4). I built several arrays and put the ext4 filesystem on them. All went well until I tried to mount them. BTW, this array (below) is set up as a RAID6 using partition 1 of #8 2TB drives.Bear with me here; just trying to be complete and not waste your time.

It is working properly. But when I put a line in fstab like this

It do not mount the share. How can I mount it at startup?
I have two CentOS 5.4. One is real/host and the other one in VMware-Server.
IP of host is 192.168.200.0/24 and IP of guest is 192.168.210.0/24
I can use ftp,samba,http .. between them but can't mount nfs in the guest and vice-versa since, they are in different network. showmount -e , shows the nfs shared list

I've managed to use the "Linux rescue" to at least ensure the box default boots to Windows. how to get Centos to boot.
Also, given I told Centos where to install to, and I've not changed anything since, how come it could not even manage to create a working system? Never had this problem on Windows (OK, always on Windows 98 but I never considered that an O/S ).
i m on the way to migrate from win 2008 server to centos 5.5. i just bought a new hd and have centos installed on it. my old hd runs win 2008 with SFS file system. now i put the old hd as the second hd under centos so i can copy data from it to new hd (centos). i hv install fuse, fuse-ntfs-3g, dkms on centos but still can't read old hd (sfs). the data is quite big so i really need to read old hd with sfs from centos. how do i do that pls? centos can see old hd as sdb when i run "fdisk -l"

I'm new to Centos and very new to RAID/hd setup. I have a old HP proliant G3 ML150. I have no drivers cd or other, only the server. I have created a RAID1 array (named SYSTEM) with 2 HD of 250GB from the controller and have installed Centos 5.2 (updated after to 5.6). The installation is ok. Now I have added 2 HD of 1TB each and have created another RAID1 array (named DATI) from the controller. This RAID is to store data files. I've been trying to mount an NTFS USB hardrive inside a Xen DomU, but I keep receiving a permission denied error.I am using CentOS release 5.4 (Final) x86_64 for both Dom0 and DomU with latest updates
DomU # mount /mnt/iomega
ntfs-3g-mount: mount failed: Permission denied
Steps taken to reach the error:
1. I installed fuse and fuse-ntfs-3g in the Dom0 and successfully mounted the USD drive to make sure it worked. Then I unmounted it and block attached it to the DomU.
Dom0 # xm block-attach DomU phy:/dev/sdd xvdc r
2. I installed fuse and fuse-ntfs-3g in the DomU.I turned off SELinux (Though I don't think this is an issue)
DomU # /usr/sbin/getenforce
Permissive
3. checked for the USB drive with fdisk and found it /dev/xvdc1
DomU # /sbin/fdisk -l

I have a external usb 20Gb hdd. It was a ntfs partition but i could'nt mount it, so I try with a ext3 partition, because with centos it's mount automaticly, but... for some reason that I don't know, even with a ext3 partition my centos don't detect my external usb hdd, howerver I already try to mount it on ubuntu to see if it work, even on windows with some programm to recognize ext3, it was alright, but why can't i mount it on my centos?
