im running ubuntu 11.4 im trying to install amd catalyst 11.4 for my x1300 ati graphic card but when i installed it my system couldn't start and i had to start in recovery mode for removing tha package. i think i have done something wrong with the packages how to install ati catalyst 11.4 on my x1300 graphic card
View 1 RepliesI think i found out what was crashing my computer my Graphic card every time i start a game the computer goes down. I have a Ati Radeon 5570. Desktop Effects: Disabled System Info: 2d: fglrx 3d: ati I downloaded the Ati Drivers from the website after installing the Open Source not sure if that is causing a problem. Here are the steps i took. su - UNSUPPORTED="yes" sh ./ati-driver-installer-11-2-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE-autodetection zypper in fglrx* aticonfig --initial reboot It will crash whenever i start a game and randomly when i run ..... VLC etc.. Edit: Should i uninstall all opensource/ati and start over and if thats the case whats the best approach to this?

Have a fresh install of FC14, 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE. After trying the Catalyst install instruction the response is this - Requires: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.35.12-88.fc14.i686.PAEInstalled: kernel-PAE-2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686 (@updates)I do 'yum update kernel' and I appear to have the latest release.

Then I noticed that it's not working well due to an improper installation (didn't use the manual that you provided here). So I uninstalled the driver. Then, after reboot, instead of a regular desktop, I get a CLI and I'm requested to enter my login information. But in the boot menu, if I enter to the failsafe option, then everything works fine. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Centos. During the installation, I noticed that only sound was being tested during the installation. Once everything has been installed successfully. I can run Centos with no problem. However, when I tried to switch from one window (browser) to another. The display was slow. Thus, I suspected the driver for the graphic card of my PC is not being installed successfully. When I type /sbin/lspci | grep VGA in the terminal, I get the following output:

Then, I went to the dell support & driver site to download the driver. In the readme file, it is suggested to install dkms first before installing the graphics driver by typing rpm -ivh dkms-2.1.0.1-1.noarch.rpm
I managed to install the dkms without any error.However, when I use rpm to install the graphics driver as suggested by the readme file:
rpm -ivh dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64.rpm
I get the following errors: error: Failed dependencies:
libX11.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64
libXext.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64[code]....
Since the above errors may be related to the missing packages then I use yum provides and install to find the missing packages. Even I try to install all the matched packages, i still cant install the driver for my graphic card. To be honest, i am not very sure whether I am doing the right things or not. how to solve this slow display problem when switching from one application to another.
I installed ubuntu but when I first tried to login with my correct passwords it goes in a loop and prompt me to log in again. I went to recovery mode and selected safe mode then I was able to log in without any further prompts. As a result of what happened, I unlocked the login screen and changed the setup to allow me to log in automatically and in safe mode only. I am now stuck to login in safe mode only. I tried to unlock the login screen to change to default but no chance. If there is no graphic card in the PC would that have an effect on memory or login?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've set up this new PC, the graphic card I picked is the ATI R7 260X, pretty good card with lots of core processors, high clock and 2GB memory. I'm now currently using the 14.4 catalyst drive, it works actually alright, though, there are some mishaps with this driver:
First my hdmi screen had scale down, leaving black borders around, even though the catalyst control said the correct native resolution, this turned out to be a underscan that fglrx does and I've finally managed to fix it. Other caveat is that the screen simply won't suspend or turn off( via software), DPMS actually works, forcing it turns the screen blank for some seconds but something does not allow the screen to sleep.
Performance wise it seems pretty good though, everything is pretty smooth, being able to play games maxed out on resolution and ultra settings, though, I still haven't tested out that many games.
The open-source radeon on the other hand, well its open-source, fully xorg and linux compatible, which is a major plus point. It seem it has come a long way, supporting lot of features and providing better performance in some cases.
Before installing Catalyst I had issues with mesa and steam, steam would complain about not finding the 32bit libraries, this is however a steam runtime issue, maybe it could already be fixed.
I try to boot up Ubuntu.It seems like everything goes on as normal (I can tell from sounds), but the screen becomes just a jumble of randomly colored lines (see photos; I couldn't get screenshots for obvious reasons).I also included some info about my computer (see pic), but I don't know anything about my graphics card, how do I find that?
P.S. I just installed a fresh version of 10.04 Lucid (dual-boot with WinXP), and as far as I remember, I haven't changed any settings or even installed any software yet!
I am trying to install lucid lynx on this laptop [URL] and I am getting the blank screen problem at installation. I tried nomodeset, vga=771, xforcevesa and a couple more and nothing seems to work. I have a livecd I burned a couple months ago. If I delete the quiet splash line at the livecd I get some repeating text too fast to see and after a couple of mins the laptop shuts off by itself. what can I do to get lucid lynx working on this pc?

I know that DP is required to use three monitors on a regular card. But other than that, will it work? Am I to expect a lot of work to be able to get it working? Or will it simply be impossible? (And yes, I know that AMDs(/ATI) drivers aren't always the best... Although changing to a card from nvidia at this moment isn't possible)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've already got two installs without much problems.. one on my laptop and another fedora13 install on an older comp just to test it a bit before installing it on my main comp. But now I've got a problem. Both those install went without problems but when I started installation on my main comp first I've noticed some graphic problems when there is installation started and there is mouse and fedora 13 welcome installation screen. there are some like glitches or something no idea how to describe them.. like bad pixels in small upper part of the screen. But ignoring that everything went OK up to the part where I can choose a standard discs or non starts like sans and stuff..
When I choose standard disc installation just freeze there. No idea what is happening. Only this that came across my mind is that there is a problem with raid maybe? There are 2x640Gb HDD in raid0, there is win7 installed, and another 1Tb HDD, non-raid member disk, where I would like to install Fedora and have a dual boot. Still got programs that I need win for I'm afraid. Installation went smooth on laptop and another comp but there is no raid so I'm guessing that could be a problem. When I enable opengl support it seems threa re refresh problems, botton now are visible, now not, it seems a blinking effect and when I move the pointer it seems kde try to re-draw the object but the object get invisible, so a relay mess. Xrender instead work but it's slow. Whit opensuse 11.2 all was ok. glxgears however shows me pretty good performance so I don't understand where is the problem.
