Today after turning computer on got message that there was a problem starting an aplet program. Prompted to ignore it or delete it. I deleted it. Now I notice that the icon to turn computer is missing.
View 3 RepliesSometimes when I boot my computer the icons on the panel (pieces of them) are missing. Like half of my wireless just the mail icon from the indicator applet half the trash can or show desktop or just the power button from the indicator applet session. After I log out and log back in either once or twice that usually fixes it. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with gnome 2.30.2.

I vaguely remember in 8.04 and 9.04, there was a way to set a preference so that when I clicked on Shut Down, the computer would shut down without asking me if I was sure. But I can't remember how I set this preference, and much clicking on the panel and the Turn off button hasn't revealed how I do this thingSo: is it still possible, in 10.04, to set things up so I can shut down without having to reply to a pesky dialogue asking me if I'm sure? How do I go about setting that preference?

Every time when I tried to turn off the computer by pressing the 'shut down the computer' button at the upper right corner of the screen and selecting 'Shut down', it will first appear as if it is shutting down normally, but in less than half minute, it stops at a console-like screen with the last few lines of text

I have critical battery, it's always on 1%. Today the power went down so i tried to shutdown computer. I clicked on Shutdown, it asked me if i am sure and that was it. But when power was on i tried to turn on computer but get error. It's blanc screen with some text. Here is text at the end:

When turn off the computer he is half-second off, and then immediately the same turn himself again. Such problems with Lenny, OpenSolaris 2009.06, Windows and Ubuntu 9.04 was not. Noticed on Debian 6.0, Ubuntu 10.04 and above, OpenSUSE 11.4. And only on my computer. How do I fix this?

First, started off that I couldn't turn off or reset my computer using the power buttons, it simply logs out.

Then I forced it to shut off with the command: sudo poweroff
When I turned it on again my icons like Trash bin, Netowrk meter, Keyboard layout have disappeared from my panels...
And it doesn't shut off anymore (it did for a couple times only).
I got rid off Empathy off my toolbar and it has taken away the sound icon aswell. How do I get the sound icon back? I am using Ubuntu 10.10.

PulseAudio applet's icon is missing, i.e., in the systray and in the program menu (for the PulseAudio device chooser) the 'white page with blue question mark' icon is used. Here is one of them.I created a user account for my wife - She was set up as an administrator with full access to everything (including wireless, internet, etc etc.)The top tool panel on MY desktop has the Speaker Icon - And to its left is a Wireless Internet Icon, which I use to connect to the internet and manage internet options. On my Wifes desktop - its not there. There is just three horizontal lines one ontop of the other. This was unmissable! This does not seem to exist in 10.04 Lts or am I missing something. I've looked for an option to enable this but found nothing.
