i even turn off all firewall rules on both server i can able to ssh from my home or any other pc to remote pc so i don't think there is any problem in target pc

Mar 21, 2010For some reasons I need to configure ubuntu in such way that it would turn off the computer if X-server or GDM hasn't started (but user is able to log in). By the way, what are the reasons for such situation besides errors with video drivers?
I was told that I should write a script, but I have no idea how to write scripts and where I should place it (I suppose in init.d with some parameters).
Ubuntu Networking :: Mobile Broadband - VPN - Remote Computer Losing It's Connection To The Server
Feb 21, 2011I'm setting up a computer with xUbuntu installed and wan't to run it as a PPtP VPN server.
I'm using a mobile broadband for internet connection, with DynDNS wich updates the host with public IP-address.
I've managed to set up the connections and installed the needed packages. The problem appears when I connect to the VPN server through another computer;
When I get connected to the VPN server the remote computer recieves an IP-address from the server (xUbuntu) wich is great! But the server changes prefered network, from the mobile broadband to the wired network wich results in the remote computer losing it's connection to the server.

Mar 11, 2011I have an AppleTV running a version of Ubuntu on a usb drive. I want to be able to use my iPhone as a wireless keyboard and mouse but the apps require that I turn on remote desktop in ubuntu.problem is, I use it for xbmc (crystalbuntu) and since the AppleTV only has 1 usb port, I cant plug a usb keyboard or mouse in as the flash drive with the OS on it is in the usb port.I can ssh into the AppleTV and run terminal commands. Is there a terminal command to turn on remote desktop so I can use the iphone keyboard app?

First, started off that I couldn't turn off or reset my computer using the power buttons, it simply logs out.

Then I forced it to shut off with the command: sudo poweroff
When I turned it on again my icons like Trash bin, Netowrk meter, Keyboard layout have disappeared from my panels...
And it doesn't shut off anymore (it did for a couple times only).

Mar 3, 2011My computer won't shut off unless I just hold down the power button. Everytime I try System > Shut Off it just turns off, then restarts. My computer screen will sometimes just 'turn black' and become unresponsive, and I have to shut it down and restart. (The longest I waited was a few minutes with no response. How do I get customized mouse pointers? When I download something and 'extract' it, how do I know which file I'm supposed to open after I click 'show the files'? I've downloaded a few things and extracted them but I'm assuming I must do more, since they are not on my applications. Which is the best browser to use on Fedora? I love Opera, but for some reason my internet is twice as slow on Opera as it is on Firefox or Chrome?

And I've been struggling for quite many days to configure it to produce either visual feedback or ring terminal's bell when I receive a private message or one of those that are highlighted.
My compiz settings window in General tab has 'Audible bell' checked.
My GNOME terminal has 'Terminal bell' checked.
I also added 'set bell-style audible' to my ~/.inputrc
And I also tried to manually load pcspkr module into my kernel.
No of the above helped or at least I haven't been able to notice any difference.
I also used some commands for irssi to produce bell sign.
Ubuntu :: Remote Computer Not Reachable
Apr 19, 2010I hope I am not repeating a thread. I am trying something very simple: To remotely connect from a ubuntu desktop to another ubuntu server (physically not reachable). When I ping the server, it seems to be fine. However, when I try to ssh, the connection is closed by the host. I am the only one using the server. It worked fine a few hours ago and I was trying to copy a lot of data using a couple of scp sessions. At some point the connection was closed and I cannot access the server anymore.
