View 1 RepliesI have a Canoscan LiDE 30 scanner which works fine in Linux. I haven't used it in months, and never since moving from Jaunty x86_64 to Fedora 11 x86_64. This evening I suddenly need to scan two pages to send to someone via e-mail, and the recipient is desperate to receive them. Naturally, Xsane has decided this is the moment to screw me.
The problem: I cannot figure out how to tell Xsane that the page size is 8.5 11. It insists on scanning only the left side, 3.99 x 11. I cannot find a page size anywhere in any of the buttons.
In Preview I once got it to scan the entire page, but could not figure out how to save the image to file. Subsequently I have not been able to figure out how I did it. In any event, scanning from the small main window always scans 3.99 x 11. Adjusting the scan area manually in the Preview window allows me to change the size area in the small main window to 8.5 x 11, but when I then scan from the small main window it reverts to 3.99 x 11.
I have scanned the document a hundred times at least, each time trying different buttons, but nothing has succeeded in getting the full page.
i am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.
im running from a flash drive on an ASUS Eee PC 1001P-PU17
10.04; 64 bit In Firefox, the size of the fonts varies greatly from site to site. Some are too small to read, others huge. Some headings and menus overlap.Screen size: 1152 x 864
My settings are:
Proportional: serif 14
Serif: Times New Roman
Sans serif: Arial
Monospace: Courier New 14
I'm looking for the file in which global keybindings are set for Gnote. The man page claims they are stored in gconf --> '/apps/gnote/global_keybindings/open_start_here', /apps /gnote/global_keybindings/show_note_ menu'
I have a ~/.gconf/apps/gnote directory, but no files to set the individual keybindings. The keybindings work and can be set from within gnote, so i know they have to be somewhere on my system. Anyone have any ideas where I might look? I'm using Openbox on a Karmic command line install. I have no gconf-editor, and gnote looks to be the only program installed that uses gconf.
On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem printing to my HP printer.
What is my problem? I have a page (one page - text an graphic) to print. When I sent it to my printer it prints OK. When I sent it agian, the output is totally garbled. When I sent it again (a third time) it is OK. Sent it again (4th time) it is garbled. Sent it again ... you get the picture ;-). Alternating good and bad pages.
What is my setup? I run Fedora 14 with Cups 1.4.6. The printer is a HP Deskjet 940C. It is connected to a linksys wireless print server. It is configured in CUPS to use ipp printing. The driver I use in Cups is 'CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified (color, 2-sided printing)'.
I have apache httpd server on my Fedora 10I got 2 problems:First : I copied the web page files to its Document Root <var/www/html> & Disabled the default web page. But when I visit http:/localhost ,it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation

View 16 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to emulate behaviour I get from KeyRemap4MacBook on Mac OS X. It lets me remap control-m to Enter, for instance, globally. Is this possible with X/GNOME? Seems like xmodmap is not suitable for remapping key combinations. I tried xbindkeys to bind control-m to xdotool key Return, but it emits control-return. I tried xdotool keyup control; xdotool key Return; xdotool keydown control but it stills behaves unpredictably.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a GUI program (not a terminal command) to bind the 4th and 5th buttons on my mouse to ALT+Tab and Escape. I tried BTNX however I encountered the error "btnx-config needs the file /etc/btnx/events to run". A good example of what I'm looking for with screenshots on it's site is X-Mouse Button Control which I've been using on XP however it's not available for Linux.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running 9.10. I have a HP Photosmart 7350 printer. I have it installed and printing. But the issue I am dealing with is that it will print a full page and then print a blank page..then a full page..then a blank page. Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust got back to attempting to play with 10.04 using its Live CD. It consistently goes to the "Log In" page and not the Live CD page on running. I saw a Post specifying a F key to be pressed on boot-up to get to the desired starting point some time ago, but did not write it down. Some advice did say press Any Key but this does not seem to do the job. Tried to use the search function here but no joy. Can anyone remember which F key? Note that as a check, I tried to use 9.10 Live CD and this worked fine, so it is not a machine problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSomething happened with my Ubuntu installation - when it reaches to the "login" "password" screen it gives the message in the upper corner that the power management has not been installed properly. So, when I try to login, it throws me back to the login screen. This happens with every prevous installation available from GRUB menu: "! Install Problem. The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly. Please contact administrator."
The Recovery mode seems to work perfectly well, however it puts me in a dos prompt screen, from which I do not know how to operate.I believe one possible reason for this to happen is that my Hard Disk where Ubuntu is installed, altogether with the SWAP disc which ubuntu uses, are completely full. I tried to free some space through my installation of Vista, but the program Ext2fsd does not enable me to see the content on my ext3 drives, only shows first level directory structure (the foldrs appear "empty" under Vista.
Could someone help me with a "magical" command line that I can type in recovery mode please...so that I free some space from my /user/videos directory (I dont mind it wiped out completely) and also all "wine" installations, that I can also wipe out. If the reason of Ubuntu not continuing beyond login screen is space, I do not mind anything that can free some space somehow and enable it to start.
Does anyone know of any (GNU) software that can scan in letters that have been typed, and encode the text to unicode/ASCII/etc. I've looked for "Handrwriting recognition" (figuring if some software can interpret handwriting it could interpret typewriter text) in the Ubuntu software center and on an internet search, but all the hits are for tablet and stylus type programs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to run this page: [URL].., because it fetches the content of some feeds(RSS) and then inserts into Database and then sends SMS texts to subscribed users. when i run it with php-cli in bash like this: php feeds.php?u=y&d=y
I only get:
[4] 11719
but nothing happens, running it like this: black@loopserver:/var/www/loop/cp$ php 'feeds.php?u=y&d=y' Could not open input file: feeds.php?u=y&d=y
Can any one please tell me what to do? I think the problem is coming by passing get parameters, if i just run feeds.php everything goes fine, but I need to pass in those.
I was wondering if there is a way to know which files are in the linux page cache. I've searched but the only thing I've found is meminfo. Is there anything out there that can give more details regarding what is being cached?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using ubuntu on my PC for a few months now. Really love it, so decided to install it on my wife's PC too (she, also, loves it!). Only problem is that (and I've tried reinstalling it twice now) the browsers on her PC keep going "back a page" after a few seconds of bringing up any web page. We used the WUBI installer to install the OS. Weird thing is that this happens in both firefox and chromium (I thought it was a firefox bug at first but as it's happening in both browsers I'm thinking it's something else). I am a total Ubuntu newbie myself too, but I love the OS and really want to find a way to work on this other PC.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a website I want to map all the links starting at a given page, and record where everything is linked. I want to record any broken links, and have a nice little hierarchy of link names when I'm done. I thought the package webcheck could do this for me but I'm not sure.
the server is windows 2003. Im interested in any means that can accomplish this task.
i just tried opening facebook in firefox on windows and it works fine. On Firefox in ubuntu on the other hand the connection resets while the page is loading every time. I think my laptop/browser is blocking the connection to facebook but since I'm new to ubuntu i don't really know how to solve this
