So I'm interested in using Jokosher as an alternative to Garageband, which is what I'm used to using for recording music. After messing around with it a bit I've encountered a couple problems. The first is that Jokosher doesn't seem to remember the audio input device I selected the last time I used it. This may seem like a minor complaint, but I like to use my computer sort of like a tape recorder - that is, I use it to jot down quick musical ideas for later reference. With Garageband my internal mic is automatically selected, so all I have to do is press record. With Jokosher, however, I have to select the input I want to use every time I open the program. This, to me, kinda defeats the purpose of using a computer as a quick note-taking tool. Is there any way to set a default audio device for Jokosher to use, or to somehow make it remember which device I selected the last time?
The second is that I don't know how to install effects for this program. When I press the "effects" button it tells me that I need to install LADSPA-compatible effects myself. I've done a little bit of googling and still I can't figure out how to do this or which effects I should get.
Can anyone recommend a really cool music player (like real player equivalent of Linux) and super cool DvD player?
I am also looking for a video editor, any suggestions? there are really thousands of software to scour around, many of them don't even have rating, I want to know ubuntuforums users'.
I have ubuntu studio 10.10, and I had to reinstall because of video issues, so I just re did it to wipe it clean and start all over with the install. Before, I had the cool effect when I dragged the window from one screen to the next it stretch the window like it was springy, and snapped onto the next monitor.
I have downloaded, compiz and compiz config settings manager as well as emerald theme manager. I selected the 3d cube and wobbly windows, water fx and several other, but the 3d cube doesnt show up as such and the neat snap that I described that I had before, doesnt work either . Right now I have my XFX Radeon HD 5770 vid card prop driver disabled.
Any clues as to why as the website: [URL].. shows that beautiful cube fx in the center of the window, wont occur on my screen? And where did that cool fx go that when I drag the window over to the other screen it's just a basic drag and not the wobbly/stretchy thing?
My MBP 5,3 running 64bit 9.10 gets rather hot during use. If I touch the case near the left speaker and along the top by the screen it is sometimes almost too hot to touch. It gets that hot that when I have shut the MBP down I don't close the lid as I am scared that the hot case will damage the screen when closed together!I'm scared I'm gonna cook the laptop or an egg on it.I've been reading some of the posts regarding this mentioning scripts and being able to alter the fan speeds to hopefully solve this problem. I'm still new to linux and I don't have a problem running or installing scripts but I need the confidence to do it knowing I am not going to cook the laptop.
1, Can someone point me in the right direction with regards to a linux app (gui if possible) that I can run that will show me fan speed and cpu temp also the graphics card temp if possible? 2, What script do I need to run to cool the laptop down?
Some of you might have seen my thread about Gnome 3. My desktop and windows were a mess after Gnome 3, and I couldn't restore it back to Gnome 2 for some reason. I decided to check out Ubuntu Studio because I am a guitar player. I want to be able to record, but the desktop in ubuntu studio is stunning. It isn't graphically stunning, like ubuntu running Gnome 2 or 3, but it is simple. Everything is easy to get to and no nonsense. It is a joy to use.
If they improve the looks of the desktop and menus, I would be EXTREMELY happy. The look isn't that impressive, but the ease of use is great. One thing I noticed is that the average CPU usage went down when I switched to ubuntu studio. In regular ubuntu, my CPU would be using 15%-20% of its power when I wasn't running anything. In ubuntu studio, it is between 8%-13%.
I am pretty pleased with Ubuntu Studio. I am glad I made the switch. I just would like it to be a little more visually impressive.
I have just installed the globalmenu to my system. Everything worked fine and updated. Now the problem is that the menu does not show up. Weird... Any alternatives for a cool looking menu bar like the mac OS lepord?
You know, the really simplistic one where all you have is your files, folders, menu and a bar at the bottom with your normal filename/size/other jazz and the handy navigation button thingy? I really liked it, I swear when I went from Ubuntu to Fedora back in the F10 days I thought that was one of the coolest things.
Fedora 12 works well on my Acer 5920g laptop. However, about 5 minutes after switch-on, the fan comes on. Especially since the sensor output shows the system is still very cool:
[code]...
Once on, the fan almost never turns off. The system is not loaded at all, almost totally idle according to top.
How do people say a distro is cool .I don't find anything cool in slackware.I did teach me how to connect to internet and I learned some commands .Sorry if i were wrong and I welcome anyone to show the path of how to learn a linux inside out.
im using the ubuntu distro and when i goto the visual effects tab and click on normal or extra, it says "desktop effects could not be enabled" also, i have Two hdd's, a 100GB that has windows 7 and ubuntu. and a 250GB that has Windows XP. I have always paid for new versions of SuSE, but I have just picked up 11.4 Open on a "Linux Format" magazine. Thought I might try it. Can I "upgrade" from a full-paid-for SuSE 11.1 to Open 11.4? And What are the effects? e.g. Do I lose any software? Am I likely to lose my e-mail (KMail)?I read in the forums that people have had trouble with devices (memory stick, hard drives)and with booting. Having used 11.1 for so long I have forgotten all of the "configuration" changes I have made over the years. PS: All 64 bit.
I just switched back to the open source radeon driver, since the kernel update may have messed with fglrx for the proprietary driver. if i boot into nomodeset then i have desktop effects, however when i boot regularly, the desktop effects are off and do not work.ATI radeon mobile graphics HD4200; opensuse 11.3
Im trying out popular distros running on Gnome.. to see possible installation candidate And having one problem with OpenSUSE 11.3 Gnome out of the box...I can not enable desktop effects.. it says it can not be done on my hardware configuration...My hardware: AMD Athlon 64bit 3000+, Ati Radeon X600 256MB, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD...In every other distro I tried from live CD.. I could enable desktop effects. Now I have tried update in that live session.. and when gone to that software application it asked and I downloaded 130Mb of software.flash player..etc... but I still did not have desktop effects... So my question is can it be done with my configuration... Works fine in ubuntu with Open drivers (radeon)...I would really like to make it possible on live CD.. because I dont wanna install and then see that I can not enable it...I know that most driver manipulations need restart.. so live session can not do that...But can you say if I could even make it happen on Raden X600? No problems in Fedora, Ubuntu...

Yesterday I got the wireless up in running in my Macbook Pro 4,1 but still have no sound, the keyboard isn't fully supported (volume controls, brightness, ect.) and I haven't been able to get the eye-candy to work. I'm running openSUSE 11.2, and I've already installed the nVidia proprietary drivers, but every time I turn on desktop effects it turns it off as soon as I close the dialog box.
I'm currently running 10.04, when I went to go turn on visual effects it gave me a prompt to install an nVidia driver, after installation was complete it said I had to restart. When I start it up the screen flickers from being on and off, it then finally stops at being on but nothing shows up. Please help. My graphics card is nVidia G210M. Sony Vaio.
