i have for pc connect to my hdtv and sometimes it blinks alot.it like someone is changing the channel. it does it the most when i'm watch a video in movie player. i thought it was just movie player but it does it when vlc player too. oh and it does it too with the nvidia drive on way more.

I'm new to Ubuntu but I installed Ubuntu 11.04 with no problems. I activated the recommended drivers for my laptop. My laptop is: Acer Aspire 7540G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 video card and AMD Athlon II X2 processor. So the problems comes very very often. I watch videos on fullscreen or I leave them playing in ...... While playin a video the laptop just freezes. Everything stops working. I think this problems comes up may be every 30-40 minutes of watching a movie. I'm not a fan of holding the shut down button for 10 seconds every 40 minutes so I'll be very grateful if someone helps. I've removed Syn to Vblank from the CompizConfig because otherwise Ubuntu runs really slow on my computer and the videos are playing very slow and with very bad quality. When i removed it everything began to run faster but now I've this problem with the freezing... Any ideas ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm just getting started with Ubuntu 64-Bit. Basically, I have Totem Movie Player and VLC Media Player installed and every time I watch a movie in either one of them. If I tab out of them or minimize them, when I bring the media player back up the screen is black. The sound still works perfectly but I can't see the movie and I've tried several media players out and they all do the same thing. Basically I can't multitask or bring up anything else while I watch a movie or I have to restart the player because of the media screen going black.
I'm not sure if my computer specs will help but here they are:
Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid 64-Bit
Intel Xeon X3210 2.13GHz Quad
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB Videocard
I bought a DVD laser lens cleaner for $20.00 that worked fine in my DVD player But my computer will not play the video using real player 11 or the movie player.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to Lucid. While trying to watch movies (i have installed all the requisite plugins), I encountered certain problems. The following is what I noticed after some thorough search into the issue:
1. Suppose one goes to the location of a video file, say, /Home/Videos/Sound of Music.xyz , double clicking the file would open the movie player (Totem) but one would not be able to see any video, though sound is coming.
2. Sometimes, on entering the fullscreen the video started from double clicking the file is visible, but leaving full screen, it is lost again. This however doesnt happen in all cases, because mostly one sees no video if through double-clicking the file.
3. The same operation of playing, if done through the player (by /Movie/Open.. or by Adding a video file in the playlist) happens quite properly.
4. A .mkv file doesnt play for long, since the player crashes.
5. Subtitles are not detected, even after putting the settings on automatic loading of subtitles (/Edit/Preferences/Automatically.....)
When I insert a movie DVD into the drive, the disk is read, a window pops up asking what software do I want to use (Open Movie Player is the default). I click use Open Movie Player and get "An error occurred could not read from resource" dialog - and the movie does not play.The file manager reads the disk without any problem, so don't think it's a bad disk (and it plays in my WinXP machine). I checked in Synaptic and it appears that Totem and all the stuff that needs to be installed with Totem is there. Is there another player or some front end for totem that I don't have? In that initial screen asking for software choice, totem is not an optio n.I've looked around in Medibuntu and it looks like all the needed files are already installed. Is there a different DVD player that needs to be installed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Lucid Lynx, playing videos with the default player do not work properly. I only see the content while moving the window, or in full screen mode, and in both ways, the picture is distorsioned and with strange colors. Playing it with VLC does work properly ONLY IF I change the video output module to something different as default (X11 works, openGL also) but Linux Framebuffer does not.
The question: Is there a way to change the "default" video mode that Totem (or Kaffeine) use?? I have not found anything on the net with this exact problem.
I recently installed VLC media Player and have been using it as the default application to view my video files.The audio files get opened in the Movie Player(the default one).But When I open the Video files in Movie Player ,The Colour gets distorted and all videos appear bluish in colour.Also the same thing happens when I open a video file in VLC after opening on the audio files in movie player (The colour gets distorted and appears bluish).

When I want to play a movie from my HDD I get this (see attachment) with Mplayer and with VLC..Totem just doesn't want to play it..
but whats really weird is when I make a screenshot using VLC even though the colours are weird the screen shot comes out normal
when i try to watch a movie on movie player from the internet i get the requires a Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) demuxer plugin which is not installed. how do i install it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used Brasero to make a video CD (VCD) for my friend who wanted a disk of some vids I'd shot of his recently-deceased dog. When I select the CD, Ubuntu asks if I want to start "Movie Player". I click yes, totem starts... then I get the message:

An error occurred. Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file I've looked at my permissions, under System > Administration > Users and Groups and I can't see where I'm missing a relevant permission. What am I doing wrong?

every time I watch a DivX movie on the internet my system freezes permanently. So I have to restart. I can�t recognize any regularities: it happens in periods of 15, 20 or 30 minutes....
I use:
-F13 with latest updates
-Nvidia 8600M GT with nouvau driver
Anyone know a working movie player? I can't use Movie Player to play my movie because it's talking about plugin BS. Now I try loading the disc with VLC media Player and the crap just closes out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to position subtitles in Totem in a bottom on the black border of the 16:9 movie when showing in the full screen of 4:3 monitor?Or not necessarely in fullscreen, but in a window where black borders are on the top and underneath the actual video frames.
Now always the subtitles covers part of the video on the bottom, which is a shame as there would be empty space underneath also.
The same question for VLC.
Subtitles, would be in the external file.
And I am not looking a solution which would need transencoding the video file.
btw, for GNOME Mplayer, the solution is to put "-vf expand=:-100::2" into Edit/Preferences/Mplayer/Extra_options_to_Mplayer
Every time I use Movie Pllayer to play DVD movie, it just hang on there and not responding,so I must click the 'Force Quit' button to close it.What should I do to overcome this problem? Is there any other software which can play DVD movie?

Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:
- dvd::rip
- FFMPEG
- Acidripper
- Avidemux
Now I want to know ain't there a ripper which can read over these errors and still make a decent rip?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot get video, let alone audio, from my opensuse 11.3 box to my HDTV via the AV receiver.I have a computer and a DVR as HDMI input to a Yamaha 765 receiver. The receiver than uses hdmi to output to my samsung hdtv. I am using a ZOTAC GeForce GT 220 with an HDMI port as a video card. As an aside, I could probably upgrade my video card. Suggestions are welcome though I am concerned about heat as it needs to share space with a 4 port hardware RAID controller.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to attach an RCA R52WM24 hdtv to nVidia QuadroFX 1400 128MB PCIe 16x Dual Monitor video card via DVI cable, under Slackware 13.1.I have the stock driver installed by Slackware, I believe it is vesa as I have xorg.conf-vesa, not xorg.conf.Merely plugging the tv's dvi cable into the card (the tv is off) drives linux berserk, particularly the X server.
After the initial "Bios data check successful" message linux puts up another message that includes "Undefined video mode number 305".Ignore this message and when the X system starts the screen contains vertical bands each containing pastel colored rectangles that vary their shape and color to some complex pattern.Acting on the message, there is one available setting (640x400x32) that produces sensible X output, but so oversized as to be virtually unusable (the monitor is 1366x768).Remove the plug from the card's 2nd dvi socket and all is well again.
I have installed the latest version of flash player and watching videos on ..... and other live streaming pages should work, but when i select a video it keeps loading with out playing the video or showing any progress in the loading bar. and i dont have any problems with my internet connection
