Ubuntu :: 10.10: Namoroka: "XML Parsing Error: Not Well Formed"

Dec 14, 2010

I'm getting this error (uniquely when trying to access Auctiva-managed pages in eBay):

Code:
XML Parsing Error: not well-formed

[URL]

[Code]....

(To be accurate: the arrow is pointing to the second & in '&&' in the error message as presented. I don't know how to reproduce that precisely).

I assume this is because I have replaced the Ubuntu build Firefox with Namoroka? I did this because there was a recent announcement of security fixes in FF 3.6.13 which didn't seem to be in the Ubuntu version.

Should I revert to the Ubuntu version to get around the problem? If so, what commands do I need to issues to completely remove Namoroka and replace it with Ubuntu firefox?

Server :: Error - Failed To Join Domain: Improperly Formed Account Name

Apr 7, 2010

I would like to join SLES server to Microsoft Server 2008 Active Directory to enable domain authentication when accessing samba shares. When I run

Code:

net ads join -U administrator

I get the following error

Code:

"Failed to join domain: Improperly formed account name."

I tried the same samba configuration on another server (OpenSuse 11.2) without any problem, so I think it is somehow connected with the Samba version, but I'm not sure. Has anybody experienced this behaviour?

Code:

the package versions on SLES 10 SP2 (x86_64) are following

Fedora :: Firefox 3.5 And XML Parsing Error - Undefined Entity

Dec 28, 2009

I get this error when I try to start up firefox:
Code:
XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: (null)
Line Number 30, Column 7: <menuitem id="context-copy"
------^
It's a GTK window with black text with yellow background. I've tried removing the .mozilla folder uninstalling firefox completely and deleting /usr/lib64/mozilla and /usr/lib/mozilla folders. Same error. So I tried running firefox under root, and it displays the same error plus:

Code:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
So after long hours of frustration I created a new "test" user and firefox ran fine. It still doesn't work on my old user account and root. My system is "Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.30.9-102.fc11.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Dec 4 00:18:53 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"

Fedora Installation :: Preupgrade F9 To F12 Fails With Parsing Primary XML Error

Dec 7, 2009

I'm having some issues upgrading my F9 to F12 using 'preupgrade' so I'm looking for anybody who has ever been able to complete a preupgrade from F9 x86_64 to F12. The error message I receive is TypeError: Parsing primary.xml error: attributes construct error. To my knowledge this has been reported as a bug in F10 which was resolved by a yum update to version 3.2.24.

For F9 the latest yum version is 3.2.21 which has this Parsing error bug that prevents the preupgarde to continue. Interesting enough that the preupgarde lets me select Fedora 12 and progresses with all the preupgrade steps properly until the parsing error occur. How to fix this Parsing error on a F9 x86_64 system.

OpenSUSE :: Yast2 - Software Mgmt Parsing Error On Start

Mar 31, 2010

I haven't been able to locate this cause. The problem developed as follows:

1. Used a downloaded .ymp file to add a community package, chose NOT to add the repo permanently from the Customize button... installation of package failed.
2. Added the repo manually in Yast Software Repositories and it went thru the process without error, BUT the repo never appeared in the list. (this is where i think the problem lies)
3. Tried to add the package using .ymp package without blocking the new repo addition... package installed successfully. Then deleted the repo using Yast Software Repositories gui.

Now starting Yast Software Management the process starts and downloads the repo.xml files from each enabled repo, then displays a error msg stating "Parsing Error". Dismiss and it loads the normal interface and seems to work properly from then on.

Ubuntu Installation :: XP With Existing Setup (Partitions) - Error "Setup Did Not Find Any Hard Disks Installed On Your Computer"

Feb 18, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and previously had a separate partition with another distro on it. I decided to delete the other distro's home and swap partitions and install XP in place of it. I've been following these instructions: [URL] and [URL] I have gotten to the point where I am booting to the XP CD and want to install it, but I get the message, "Setup did not find any hard disks installed on your computer" when I should be getting to the screen that asks me to select a partition to install XP on. This is what my HDD looks like in GParted:

I want to install XP in the unallocated partition, but I have a feeling I screwed up somewhere along the way and probably don't fully understand the whole thing. Even if I try to format the unallocated partition to NTFS I can't make it a primary partition (I assume because it's within sda2). The very last thing I want to do is delete my Ubuntu partition and start from scratch, but if that's my last option let me know.

Server :: Apache Not Parsing PHP On Ubuntu 8.04?

Sep 2, 2010

I have a new setup of 8.04 with Apache2, MSQL5 and PHP5.However, I can't get the PHP to run. It is NOT the common problem of the browser offering to download the files. In my case I have some PHP in an HTML file, but the PHP is just ignored.

I have played around with my httpd.conf and also php5.conf files, but I couldn't make any difference.

My httpd.conf sets the document root to /var/www and if I put a php file in here with command phpinfo(), then it seems to dispay correctly. My HTML files are /var/www/app/index.html

Ubuntu :: LAMP Setup - Get A 403 Permission Denied Error

May 2, 2011

I'm breaking my head on this.I want to create a development environment. This means that I want to be able to create/change files myself, but php should be able to do the same. I installed a lamp-stack using tasksel. Afterwards I installed phpmyadmin. So far so good. Going to http://localhost shows "it works".

Then I created a folder /home/hwc/www and created a new apache site called hwc, disabled default and enabled hwc that points to /home/hwc/www and has the directive AllowOveride All set. But when I go to http://localhost know I get a 403 Permission denied error. I've tried several trings like changing ownership of /home/hwc/www to www-data:www-data, to hwc:www-data, to hwc:hwc, but all to no avail. Even adding www-data to group hwc and hwc to group ww-data did not help. According to other posts at least on of these solutions should have worked, but it did not. I could probably fix it by letting apache run as hwc, but that doesn't seem right.

Ubuntu :: Parsing Web Data From Nagios (Bash Fu)?

Apr 27, 2011

We have a system called Skynet, which is basically a bunch of monitoring tools, including Nagios. What I want to do is output the status of 'critical' processes in conky. The conky part I'll worry about later (how hard can that be?), but I'm looking for some feedback on how I'm parsing the initial data. I figure that the simplest way to get the information is to query the cgi, then take what I need from the results...

Code:
wget -O - "http://user:pass@skynet/nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi?status.cgi?host=all&servicestatustypes=16&hoststatustypes=3"| grep -i "<TD ALIGN=LEFT valign=center CLASS='statusBGCRITICAL'><A HREF='extinfo.cgi?type=2&host="

[Code]...

All I basically want is the server name and the process name, the above example giving server0/server1 and 'update status' as the service. How would you go about extracting merely these two pieces of information, bearing in mind that the server name and process are variable?

Ubuntu :: ERROR: Encrypted Private Directory Is Not Setup Properly

Feb 4, 2010

I'm currently running Koala on a Dell Latitude D630. I've been with Ubuntu since Hardy, so I have some experience, but this is beyond me. Basically, I was at school, closed my laptop, and bicycled home. When I opened it up at home, I saw a blank screen. When I tried to reboot, I was told that the disk couldn't be mounted. When I boot a LiveCD, I can see my two disk partitions (/ and /home) as "16GB Filesystem" and "95GB Filesystem". The 16GB system can't be mounted, and I'm pretty sure is fragged. I tried reinstalling Ubuntu, figuring that would fix it, but no luck- it starts fine, but it gets about halfway through and then says it can't install the files.

The machine is still under a service contract with Dell, so swapping out the HD itself isn't such a big deal. It would be nice to get my data, though. I can successfully mount the 95GB (/home) system. I then see two folders "dan/" and "lost+found/". I can't enter the "dan" folder because I don't have permission. Opening a terminal and navigating to /media/95GB Filestystem/dan/ works if I "sudo su root" first, but not as "ubuntu" In the dan/ folder, all I see is "Access-your-private-data.desktop" (because my /home directory is encrypted) and "README.txt". The README says to run the command "encryptfs-mount-private".

When I do that, however, I just get the message ERROR: Encrypted private directory is not setup properly I tried putting my decryption password immediately after the decrypt command, a la: encryptfs-mount-private mypasswordgoeshere but with no change in results. The one ray of sunshine in all this is that I backup my /home directory to an external every week or two. So the actual data loss is not catastrophic. But it *has* been a busy week, so I would really like to recoup that data, since it includes little things like the first chapter of my dissertation, and the job negotiation emails in my .evolution folder.

Ubuntu Servers :: Permission Denied Error 13 On Apache2 Setup

May 8, 2010

I wanted to setup a local Apache2 server for some programming and testing. I installed and got Apache2 working with PHP, MySQL and all works fine. Now I wanted to add an additional directory to somewhere in my /home. And that's where things went wrong. I went to edit /etc/apache2/sites-available/default. This is it:

Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
</Directory>
<Directory /var/www/>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny

Code:
You don't have permission to access /po/ on this server.
So I go to the logfile; which says this:
Code:
[Sat May 08 16:43:51 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /po/ denied

I tried a lot of stuff using chmod and chown, but all to no avail. I tried to change the ownership of the /home/name/web to root, and to www-data, I changed file permissions to allow executing the files.
