I have two machine, host1 and host2, that are running Debian 3.1 in an HA setup. AFAIK, they are exactly the same. In the course of tracking down some monitoring bugs, I discovered that on host2 "netstat -s" gives
I've got the F13 LiveCD that I was able to boot and use using the "nomodeset" boot option. From the desktop I'm trying to perform an Install to Hard Drive. I've read the Install from LiveCD post regarding the creation of a /boot partition and a / root partition. I've tried creating them without the LVM group and with. But every time I appempt to install I get...
An error occurred mounting device proc as /proc: mount failed: (9, None). This is a fatal error and the install cannot continue.
Hardware is a Sager 8887 (P4, 3.06HT, 60GB HDD, Radeon 9000 graphics adapter)
i try today to install Firestarter , unfortunately i got some problems regarding of the following messages:
1- insufficient privileges : 2- how can i change and save the file /etc/sbin/firestarter with visudo cammand 3-i got this message when i try to run it through terminal Error reading /proc/net/ip_conntrack: No such file or directory
I don't know what I'm missing or what I did to break it, but most screensavers that I have end up returning this error message: "X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 16 Current serial number in output stream: 16" This is also the output of glxinfo. Did I somehow break something in my graphics driver?
I installed fedora lastnight, but any addresses I type in the field is returning server error, but if I type the IP address it will work, I reinstalled Fedora 11 about 3 times, samething.
In a previous post I mentioned I planned to buy a Canopus ADVC 55 VHS to DV capture card (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=48224).
Now I have done that. And, it works like a charm using my 64-bit Debian Sid and Kdenlive! All my VHS will be saved for the future!A short HowTo: Plug in a SCART to composite adapter into the "TV out" on the VHS player. Plug in the three red/white/yellow composite RCA cables into the adapter and into Canopus ADVC 55.
Plug in a Firewire cable into the Canopus ADVC 55 and your Firewire card on your computer. Start the computer, start Kdenlive and click the connect button. Start the VHS player and click Play.
In Kdenlive and click the Record button, as fast as you can. Wait until tape is finished. Now you have a dv-file which is about 13GB per hour, so make sure you have the space on the hard drive. The dv file should then be stored as such, as the master backup. But, it is now easily converted to any other format.
I have too many home made movies to let them rot away as VHS. My previous attempt with the USB dongle only produces precompressed MPEG2 files which would have sucked. These DV files are uncompressed, take up a huge space, cannot be played as such, but! They are the raw material for any other format. If I'd like, can using Kdenlive readily make it FullHD with a few clicks.
Oh, and it works with vinyl records too!!! Then just use Audacity to edit them later. Don't buy a cheap USB dongle, buy a Canopus ADVC 55 or something similar. The quality is crisp!!!
I am developing a script to automate some database setup, but I have an issue I cannot figure out. I prompt for some input with whiptail and select a default if nothing is entered. However, if you do not enter anything, it normally returns 0, but this time it is returning an empty value.
I would like to know if what this log error mean and how i can resolve this matter. I would like to verify if this is a misconfiguration or a bug on my settings
the log error is:
snmpd:error parsing ', skipping
the RHEL version used was 4 update 4 64 bit
the snmp packages installed were:
net-snmp-5.2.1-0.2 net snmp-lib - 5.1.2-11 net-snmp-lib - 5.2.1-0.2
I installed the stable version of Debian last night (Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 l) and whenever I come out of suspend, the video card's fan stays at full speed. When I do a regular reboot, this doesn't happen.
Normal behavior is for the fans (cpu and gpu) to go to full speed for a few seconds and then settle on a slower (quieter) speed.
The hardware involved is: Dell Vostro 400 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce 8800 GT] (rev a2)
The install is vanilla (as in "I haven't messed with drivers or configuration files - yet"). Also, keep in mind that I'm a newby - I've just switched to Debian after about two months of Ubuntu and am not too familiar with where everything is or what commands I need to do what, so instead of telling me to change the sync parameters in the nvidia configuration, I need to know exactly what parameter in exactly what file.
I recently installed a newer kernel to get the open source driver for my ATI card, but am now getting the following error between booting and logging in: Warning: unable to find suitable fs in /proc/mounts. Is it mounted? After doing some research I can see it has something to do with apparmor. My questions are:
1. Can I somehow get rid of this error message? Or rather, is there a solution for this problem? 2. If not, as seems to be the case, is my system safe and secure? Will I face any issues by ignoring this error?
would have marked the last thread as solved, but couldn't find where to do it Got it up and running, dual-boot, and no problems after scandisk, and fujitsu helped out. Now I have XP and Debian lenny. Here's where the hard part comes in, for me anyways. Had to do install without NIC, install didn't find it. I have the driver disk for it, with a linux driver on it, but I can't find anything about how to use it.
The driver file has 5 files inside it. 1) Makefile 2) sr9600.c 3) sr9600.h, 2 readme's and a file containing some .png files. I can't find a substitute driver for the card, SUPERAL semiconductor sr9600, that may be already on the stuff I can get using aptitude, so what do I do with this driver...how do I get the system to use it? I NEED networking, a tutorial or some good advice,.. I've googled everything I can think of.
I have a strange iptables issues. I have just built a new Debian install and starting adding some real basic rules (see below) the problem seems to be that the localhost itself can't get any returning traffic. That is, it seems to be allowed outgoing traffic but not the connected, returning traffic. Ordinarily allowing Established Connections would resolve this, see the rule below, but it hasn't. Why this doesn't work. Removing the last DROP in the INPUT chains obviously makes the traffic work!
iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -p tcp --dport 22 iptables -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -s x.x.x.x iptables -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -s x.x.x.x iptables -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -s x.x.x.x -p tcp --dport 80 iptables -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -s x.x.x.x -p tcp --dport 8080 iptables -I INPUT 1 -i lo -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -j DROP
I get this error when I try to start up firefox: Code: XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: (null) Line Number 30, Column 7: <menuitem id="context-copy" ------^ It's a GTK window with black text with yellow background. I've tried removing the .mozilla folder uninstalling firefox completely and deleting /usr/lib64/mozilla and /usr/lib/mozilla folders. Same error. So I tried running firefox under root, and it displays the same error plus:
Code: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.) So after long hours of frustration I created a new "test" user and firefox ran fine. It still doesn't work on my old user account and root. My system is "Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.30.9-102.fc11.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Dec 4 00:18:53 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"
I am new to Ubuntu linux and recently installed it on my computer. I'm trying to install PPTP following this guide http://www.dotcomunderground.com/blogs/2010/04/10/poptop-pptp-centos5-installation-setup/but when I enter the command yum --enablerepo=poptop-stable install pptpd
I have an issue when sending snmp traps. I have an embedded system connected to a SNMP manager. I am sending traps from the box to the manager continuosly. After sometime I don't see any trpas coming out. I get this error message.

I am trying to reset the root password of Squeeze so that I may be able to update. I forgot it. I have followed the howto Reset Root Password without success. I am getting a root prompt but for some weird reason the root commands are not found. When I type passwd, I get, "command not found". Moreover, If I try reboot and shutdown -h now, both fail.
i'm trying to configure my dhcp server but without success. i've installed dhcpd apt-get install dhcpd-server then i've added the following line to my dhcpd.conf
I'm having some issues upgrading my F9 to F12 using 'preupgrade' so I'm looking for anybody who has ever been able to complete a preupgrade from F9 x86_64 to F12. The error message I receive is TypeError: Parsing primary.xml error: attributes construct error. To my knowledge this has been reported as a bug in F10 which was resolved by a yum update to version 3.2.24.
For F9 the latest yum version is 3.2.21 which has this Parsing error bug that prevents the preupgarde to continue. Interesting enough that the preupgarde lets me select Fedora 12 and progresses with all the preupgrade steps properly until the parsing error occur. How to fix this Parsing error on a F9 x86_64 system.
I haven't been able to locate this cause. The problem developed as follows:
1. Used a downloaded .ymp file to add a community package, chose NOT to add the repo permanently from the Customize button... installation of package failed. 2. Added the repo manually in Yast Software Repositories and it went thru the process without error, BUT the repo never appeared in the list. (this is where i think the problem lies) 3. Tried to add the package using .ymp package without blocking the new repo addition... package installed successfully. Then deleted the repo using Yast Software Repositories gui.
Now starting Yast Software Management the process starts and downloads the repo.xml files from each enabled repo, then displays a error msg stating "Parsing Error". Dismiss and it loads the normal interface and seems to work properly from then on.
As trying to update my system the other day I was greeted with a message I did not want.
