I'm having some issues upgrading my F9 to F12 using 'preupgrade' so I'm looking for anybody who has ever been able to complete a preupgrade from F9 x86_64 to F12. The error message I receive is TypeError: Parsing primary.xml error: attributes construct error. To my knowledge this has been reported as a bug in F10 which was resolved by a yum update to version 3.2.24.
For F9 the latest yum version is 3.2.21 which has this Parsing error bug that prevents the preupgarde to continue. Interesting enough that the preupgarde lets me select Fedora 12 and progresses with all the preupgrade steps properly until the parsing error occur. How to fix this Parsing error on a F9 x86_64 system.

Just tried updating 5.2 to 5.3; using both pup and yum, and both get the same error:
Error: Missing Dependency: libgpod.so.0 is needed by package rhythmbox
If I remove rhythmbox (I don't use it on this machine) the upgrade works, but I thought I'd post in case someone wanted to take a look at it.

I am trying to install VMware 2.5 and when I run the rpm i receive the error: error: Failed Dependencies: /bin/sh is needed by VMware-Player-2.5.3-185404.i386
How can make this dependency? I have already tried linking it and I even tried using the rpm in the /bin directory, where /bin/sh is located.

I am very new to Ubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday from downloading file from Website on my Acer Laptop. I want to install Virtual box and run Win XP to run some of the windows based programs. I downloaded deb file from virtualbox website for Ubuntu 9.10 and double clicked that file. The installer in Ubuntu immediately gave the following error.
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libqt4-network (>= 4.5.1)
I re-downloaded the file. But again same problem. I am not able to figure out what is wrong. I have got the latest update of Ubuntu running as I run the update after the the installation.

I am running Debian squeeze and I am trying to install hplip-3.10.5 so I can use my new HP Photosmart C4750 printer.I downloaded the automatic installer and ran it and it gave me the following error message:
RE-CHECKING DEPENDENCIES
------------------------
error: A required dependency 'cups-image (CUPS image - CUPS image development files)' is still missing.
error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency.
error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.
So I ran apt-get install cups-image and got the following:
raygo75@RayGo1:~/Desktop$ sudo apt-get install cups-image
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package cups-image
does the package "cups-image" exist? and if it does were can I find it. I have looked to no avail. I have posted a question on hplip seeing as that is were I got the script from.

I've just bought a new laptop (Acer 3810T - which has a "Core 2 Solo Processor) - so I have installed Linux for the first time in my life.... Ubuntu 9.10-desktop-amd64.iso - so far so good, I'm very very impressed and the operating system seems to be working fine. I assume that I have chosen correctly the AMD64 version then.
Fastforward to Skype installation, and I download the version (skype-ubuntu-intrepid_2.1.0.81-1_amd64.deb) - which is the best match as far as I can tell from Skype's website. However when I come to install it, I get the follwoing error: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: lib32stdc++6 (>= 4.1.1-21)

I am not having a lot of good fortune with Xfce, this time. The LiveCD had a kernal error, and after doing an install, the update chokes on dependency errors. I tried unchecking the problem update files, but then I ended up in a loop that I couldn't find what else was causing these problems. This doesn't seem to be a big problem listed in this forum, so how do I resolve this?

I have Fedora 6 & 10.3. Both DVD's will install the default partitioning (LVM) with either the normal programs or the custom selection. I wish to custom create my own partitions (about6 or7) with EXT3 format. The drive is112Gb. and I am only using about 30Gb. in total, giving approx. 80 Gb free. However after checking for dependencies the error message comes back 'Insuffient free space' every time. This happens on another M/board and/or Drive combination.

I get this error when I try to start up firefox:
Code:
XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: (null)
Line Number 30, Column 7: <menuitem id="context-copy"
------^
It's a GTK window with black text with yellow background. I've tried removing the .mozilla folder uninstalling firefox completely and deleting /usr/lib64/mozilla and /usr/lib/mozilla folders. Same error. So I tried running firefox under root, and it displays the same error plus:
Code:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
So after long hours of frustration I created a new "test" user and firefox ran fine. It still doesn't work on my old user account and root. My system is "Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.30.9-102.fc11.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Dec 4 00:18:53 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"
