Ubuntu :: Empathy Won't Stop Asking About A Subscription Request?
Jan 24, 2010Every single time I start Empathy, it says "Subscription requested by NAME" (where name is someone's username). I don't know this person, I don't want to say yes. However, every single time I click "No" and it won't remember that I've rejected this subscription! How can I get it to stop prompting me? I want to say "No, and never show me this darn request again, dangit!"

Feb 19, 2011First little history here: First tried Suse 7 years ago, or something like that. Not used actually, was collecting dust on second partition. Then after view years switched Ubuntu 5 or 6 or something. Used it for view years on my desctop. Linux only. No dual boot nothing. Then bought a mac mini. Played with OSX for view years. While following lessons of Fedora and CentOS. Then Win7 came out. Used it for view years. To be kind of up to date.
Now:
a view month ago i installed Russian Fedora Remix on a mac. I a sence of completely switching back to linux. I dont want to use OSX for example simply because you get used to what u use. So i tough ill run lets say Fedora on my desktop at home and workstation at work. And surely CentOS on server('s). For glpi for example, or wahtever else. Fog maybe.
The trouble: Ive installed Russian Fedora Remix and then installed EasyLife Project on it. Everything runned fine for view month. Then view weeks ago it stated to refuse to update because of package conflict. On Russian Fedora Remix forum ive got an advise to remove the conflicting package. (Alsa). When i removed it, it removed also one gig dependencies. Now gnome and kde do not log in. Only openbox and enlightenment work. Browsers do not work. And i doubd something else works at all.
THe question: I wondered what are the proc and cons of the RPMFusion enabled by EasiLife project and Russian Fedora Remix repos. Because RFR repos already contain non free codecs and so on. My first tough was that maybe it would be more interesting to use Russian repos because maybe they would be littlebit later in updates. So if an update brakes something. It can be fixed before it was added there. Im Russian by the way, thats why im interested in this version. Althou what is more of concern to me is that RFR contains all the codecs out of the box. For me on the PC its RFR or SuperOS that are interesting. The rest are details. But then, my second though was that maybe RFR might also be kind of purer then EasyLife project. I mean i remember the days when people on Ubuntu forums were against Automatix. Offcourse i expected EasiLife project to be more cosher maybe. Maybe because its fedora finaly not ubuntu. I always tought that fedora forums are kind of more professional but, what is not so good, less friendly compared to ubuntu. Thats was my impression. And also ive been already suggested on the fedora irc to not use easylife project. I actually installed it on RFR mainly because of a habit of installing it on fedora. And because of a theme. But that is not a concern anymore. Cuz ill costumize it anyway.

Ubuntu :: Get The Regular KDE Keyring Password Request ?
Jun 9, 2010I switched to Kubuntu with the upgrade to Lucid. After a couple updates, I started getting a "Gnome looking" unlock screen on my desktop at start-up. I get the regular KDE keyring password request and a second that looks like the Gnome keyring. I don't know how this happened. I checked in Synaptic and found the gnome-keyring was installed. Can I uninstall this or will that cause problems?

Jun 15, 2010I am using Ubuntu 10.04 on my Macbook Pro 3,1. I would like it if there was an option in Preferences > Keyboard > Layouts > Options that if selected would swap the Ctrl and Command keys around so that those keys would behave like they do in Mac OS. On the macbook pro the keys go fn, ctrl, alt, command, space etc. and it's really much easier to use command (with your thumb) + z/x/c/v/b/w/q/r/a etc. than it is to use ctrl (with your little finger). If your keys are in the same order as mine, try it. I'm sure you'll find it downright awkward using your little finger for ctrl. You might think that I'm just not used to it but that's not it.
I was used to using ctrl for years and when I started using my macbook pro I was astounded by how much easier it is to use command. In Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 on my mac I was able to remap the keys with xmodmap but while with 10.04 the keys are remapped according to xev it has no effect on their behaviour. I can't imagine adding one more option to the list would be that hard. I have learned how to code in the past but it has been years and years and wouldn't have the first clue where to start in Linux. How I can find and contact the developers of this part of GNOME so that I can make the request?
Ubuntu Networking :: Squid And Request From Internet?
Oct 9, 2010I try use Squid as my proxy server. When I set my firefox to use my proxy server (squid), all is ok, but when I set firefox on another pc (from internet, not local network), all request returned time out turn off my router and connect PC to internet (without router), but still don't work.In iptables is all ok, I think. Where is problem? I think, It isn't problem with squid (because squid don't show error page), but I don't know how fix it

Nov 25, 2010I know it's safer not to block the request for a password that unblocks the keyring but I'm desperate.
The more I use ubuntu more times I'm requested to provide the keyring password. Now, this time, i've typed 7 times!

Jun 23, 2011New User to Ubuntu by the way. I have two computers, both running Ubuntu 10.4 fully updated and I am trying to bring files from one computer to the other with Filezilla ftp client. I was able to do this before, but I ended up having to reformat because of a driver screwup that I couldn't figure out how to fix. Now I am at a loss on how I managed to allow the computer with the files to connect to the one receiving the files. Computer A is the one that has the files that I am trying to send to computer B. Every time I try to send them over I get a "connection was refused" error.
Typed in the right IP, username, password, and port but still wont connect. Are there any things I have to do in terminal to allow access? I installed firestarter and just disabled it so ports should be open. By the way, I am using FTP because it was much simpler then trying to dink around with Samba and this is a pretty safe network.
- Enabled firewall, forwarded the ports in the events list then we get "request timed out"
