I want to subscribe to newsgroups pertaining to Linux in Thunderbird. To configure the subscription Thunderbird asks me to enter the server name for the newsgroups, but I don't know any server name serving newsgroups for Linux.

I use fedora 12. I am facing this problem. Not exactly a problem but I can sure use a work around.
I usually connect to wireless network. The connection is automatic so whenever the connection goes down, it is automatically restored.
But sometimes, the connection goes down, nm-applet asks me to enter the password and will not proceed until I have entered the password. I have observed that this usually happens when the request to connect takes a long time or the wifi router does not respond immediately.
Is there way to change this behaviour? I want nm-applet to keep trying until its connected and not ask me for a password. This way I can be sure that my laptop is always connected and does not need my intervention.
Whenever I start a browser, it asks me to enter my root password because of some pgp keyring issue. I set my password as standard in seahorse, but no change.
The Gnome3 interface sometimes lags very noticeably.
Packagekit constantly blocks my zypper use, and it won't shut down. Not even after I log out and log in again. I tried just removing everything related to packagekit, but that just breaks everything.
Searching for repositories is a pain and there are too many different ones and I never know which one is the latest and how these will be upgraded in the future. Zypper itself is awesome, everything else about package and repo management is not.
I can't uninstall applications properly. I remove them via zypper, and when I do a distro update they get added back in. (gnome games for example)
Whenever I install or search for anything in zypper, I get hundreds of these errors: GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)..but it still finds something.
FC12/KDE How to do you enter Content-Type in Attachments in thunderbird? I have people sending me pictures I can't open in Thunderbird , it wants me to "Save" them, that has a Content-Type of Octet-Stream and I want enter Gwenview to view this Content-Type. There is no "Options" in the "Tools" window.

From my server I need to run a command for backup on 25 remote servers (through a script). Now I have pushed the public keys for remote ssh connectivity on all of them and it works ( I can push files using rsync without the need to enter passwords on the remote servers), howver, I need to run the following command:
ssh odsadmin@10.139.111.1 'cp -a /var/www/life /var/www/life-v4'
when I run this command, I keep getting asked to enter the password, I even tried putting sudo in front of the cp, but still get the request to enter the password.
I am using RHEL 5.3 , i want to configure my comapny email account in thunderbird 3.0.3 . i am unable to connect my server. my server is pop.bizmail.yahoo.com. what should i do , shall i need to do any more settings apart from thundermail...
View 4 Replies View RelatedIa anyone using P.A.N (Usnet newsreader)? Natty comes with version 0.133. After installing Natty and since the most recent updates, Pan no longer works. It keeps "connecting". Other internet apps (Empathy, Firefox, Chrome), so it's not my internet connection.I even deleted the hidden ./pan2 directory, and I can't even connect to download the newsgroups list.Is there a deb package for 1.34? Nothing newer for 1.33 shows up in the Update Manager.Failing this, are there any other linux newsreaders that handles binaries? AFAIK, Pan seems to be the only one, but I may be wrong in that assumption

On one I have just installed Pan 0.133 newsreader successfully and am able to scroll through newsgroups and download.On the other I cannot figure how to find newsgroups. I tried uninstalling and re-installing to see if I would get a chance during install but no. I can't remember how I got them on the 'successful' machine.

However, every single time I click "No" and it won't remember that I've rejected this subscription! How can I get it to stop prompting me? When my pc connected to the router which is connected to the modem, I can't make my server go online. It asks for some linksys authorisation.
How can I teach my server to ignore my router and go directly to the modem. Unfortunately I can't just connect my server to the modem couse 3 more PCs are connected with the hub.

I select "No" to deny the request.
If I reboot or logoff of machine upon re-boot the same subscription requests appear.
It is re-producible and happens every time. If I don't reboot or logoff the subscription request will no longer appear.
I recently installed Red hat enterprise 5 on a vmware esx server 4 and i didnt realize that for updates and patches you have to have a subscription to the red hat network. is there a free server linux OS that does not require this and is there a way to update on RHEL 5 without a subscription.

I get an pop up error message that says:

Which would be fine if there was actually a place for me to enter the name which there is not. What am I doing wrong. This is the first time I have tried using the Connect To Server dialog. Normally I just use a script I wrote to mount my share in a folder on my local drive as some programs cannot access the mounted network folder. In a browser all I have to do is:

I tried using Windows Shares, but that did not work either. It does work if I click on network and access the share that way, but some programs like firefox and a few others that I want to save a file to my network drive do not show the network unless the share is mounted in a folder. So, I wrote a script:

This works and I can use this, but it would be handy if I could just use the Connect To Server dialog.
I am pasting sudo commands without problems as a user (ales in my case) and then immediately the ask the user password.
The keyboard seems to be dead, no keys work, not allowing me to enter the password.
Succeeded in connecting to internet using my wll phone. I can now connect using 'wvdial' command in root terminal. But I want to connect through terminal. I tried 'sudo wvdial' command. Then I am asked for my password. But I cannot type my password there. When I type, nothing appears on the terminal window. Ofcourse there's no problem with my keyboard.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.

I've had a server setup working perfectly for the last 2 years. Today we installed a newer version of postgresql and recompiled apache/php.
Postgresql will not start now.
"service postgresql start" = /var/lib/pgsql/data is missing. Use "service postgresql initdb" to initialize the cluster first. To initdb we need to be as user postgres.
"su - postgres" = "no file or directory"
In /etc/passwd = postgres:x:26:26:PostgreSQL Server:/var/lib/pgsql:/bin/bash

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
Is there a way to delete all the emails on the server so there are no emails in my inbox? I'd like to start fresh for the new year.

It occurred to me that the most elegant solution might be the use of VM technology to eliminate as much hardware and wiring as possible.My thinking is this: Install a multi-core system and configure it to run several VMs, one each for a firewall, a caching proxy server, a mail server, a web server. Additionally, I would like to run 2-4 VMs as remote (RDP)workstations, using diskless workstations to boot the VMs over powerline ethernet.The latest powerline technology (available later this year) will allow multiple devices on a residential circuit operating at near gigabit speed, just like legacy wired networks.
In theory, the above would allow me to consolidate everything but the disklessworkstations on a single server and eliminate all wired (and wireless) connections except the broadband connection to the Internet and the cabling to the nearest power outlets. It appears technically possible, but I'm not sure about the various virtual connections among VMs. In theory, each VM should be able to communicate with the other as if it was on the same network via the server data bus, but what about setting up firewall zones? Any internal I/O bandwidth bottlenecks? Any other potential "gotchas", caveats, issues? (Other than the obvious requirement of having enough CPU and RAM).Any thoughts or observations welcome, especially if they are from real world experience in a VM environment. BTW--in case you're wondering why I'm posting here, it's because I run Debian on all my workstations/servers (running VirtualBox as a VM for Windows XP on one workstation).
I have got a running mail server on CentOS5.4 Final using Zimbra free edition. . Assume that domain is organization.com.local And it is running fine with users created and bugzilla running on the same machine can send mails using this server. But it can obviously send messages to the internal users. There is this option to configure it to use external mail server to send mails outside the network but my external smtp server needs an authentication.Is it possible to configure it this way to use my external server to send mails from internal domain to say gmail?
