Jan 21, 2010I have a problem with my keyboard. I�m unable to type single or double quotes, at least not the regular sort that you need to write code in almost any programming language ever invented -which makes it pretty useless.A demonstration.Single left and right tilted quotes:Double quotes: m not able to type a single straight quote at all.I just want my keyboard layout to be standard US like everyone elses so I can get on with my work so does anybody know how to just reset it to a normal layout?

Jun 1, 2010I have XFCE and xorg-server-1.7.7 in slackware64-13.0. I have my keyboard set up in xorg.conf. X ignores that and takes info from hal. So I have a US keyboard, when I have a UK/IE keyboard actually. When I added openoffice, i found I was getting double letters am getting double letters all over the place, and the cursor blink has slowed too near zero. So when I want to remove them again, the mouse will not land the cursor in the middle of a word to delete the extras. An average of 3 double letters are happening each line. Mouse sometimes works to remove them, usually not. I have set 'repeat delay' at maximum, 'repeat speed' & 'blink delay' at minimum. No effect. Disabled key repeat - still happens.

Jun 19, 2010My laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

Oct 12, 2009I am using apache2 with subversion and trying to get post commit script to run an svn update command. All svn commands seem to work fine manually
Everything used to work fine but then the server ip changed and I can no longer access it with the web name and have to use the ip directly
I am using tortoise svn with vista on my work machine

Sep 28, 2010For some odd reason, I cannot post on the ubuntu forum and the LinuxMint forum. Yea, I know.... the irony... I am using Mozilla and have tried Chromium, but that did not fix my problem. When I click on "submit" to post a thread, the page will just say "loading..." and nothing happens for a really long time. Does anyone know what is up? I tried posting on one other forum that I go to often and it seems to work out fine. I haven't tried any other forums though.

Ubuntu :: No Keyboard At Grub First Boot - Keyboard After Restart?
Jun 27, 2011Computer: Toshiba Satellite Pro L510 laptop, 10.10.This has always happened but I have gotten around it by time-out and putting my menu.list in order. When I first boot the machine (switch on for the day from computer being off) I get to the grub options to select a kernel and I have no keyboard. No up/down arrows so have to go with the kernel on top of the list (not always desirable).
When I get to the log-in screen if I hit restart and go back to the grub screen I have a keyboard and can select any kernel. If I login to the kernel I have full keyboard, no problem. If I then restart, I have keyboard at the grub list.
Nutshell: It is only when starting the computer fresh that the keyboard is dead at grub menu (and then only). Any time after that, once the computer has been switched on, if I restart I have keyboard at grub menu and can select different kernels. (Of course, if I switch the computer off and back on again, no keyboard ...)

May 1, 2010Updated to 10.04 OK except for a couple of things. No sound icon on the task bar and it's not in the 'add to taskbar list'. Not a major problem, just put it in the 'start programs section'.Annoying thing is after selecting from the grub boot menu, the machine seems to be suffering some indesision as the cursor sits on the top lhs of the screen flashing and the screen modulates between various degrees of darkness. Then the machine boots OK. Certainly slower than karmic - not quicker as reported. Seems to be some conflict happening. There is a duplication of the kernal entries for default and safe. Mabe this is the problem. I have run update-grub2, but it keeps giving me double entries.

Jun 20, 2010I have no idea how, when or why this has suddenly happened but when I double-click in an input box it no longer selects all as it did before. No particular app, this applies to everything with an input/address/search box.
I noticed it wasn't working a couple of days ago in firefox but didn't realise it affected everything til today so I cannot pinpoint exactly when it happened to connect it any particular update or app installed.
I did install gpointing a few days ago but decided I didn't need it and removed it. I don't think I changed any settings but I can't find any settings anywhere for it.

Jul 18, 2010I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).

Apr 30, 2010I have somewhat managed to fix the laptop, x100e, by not being on battery and installing the ATI driver. But then the wireless doesn't work, nor do the drivers I had working with 9.10 (RT8192SE). So, that's scrapped. A laptop without wireless is pretty useless.Workstation does a complete lockup on login aswell. HasNvidia 9300 onboard card. But at this point, I don't want to find out what else is waiting when I fix that.I was really expect a rock solid release since it was going to be LTS. But at the moment it's pretty useless to download and I have been using Ubuntu since 7.xx series.

Jun 14, 2010Within the last few days, Evolution barely opens, and every message has a duplicate message. The duplicate shows as unread, whether I read the original message or not. All duplicates occur only for messages received prior to Wednesday late PM (about four days ago). My in-box was already large, and the program now takes forever to open. In its attempt to get all the messages, it shows:
Fetching mail (...)
Generating message list (...)
Storing folder (...)
I've watched the system monitor, and I'm open to suggestions if looking for something specific could help. When I first attempt to open the program, it grabs a substantial portion of the CPU as status "running" or "uninterruptible." If I let it grind away for a while (15 or more minutes), the program opens, and has the double entries and continues to labor to get the new e-mail. In the most recent try, the program opens, and eventually is able to get mail.
This recent problem MIGHT be related to traveling, when I switched to working off-line for a while, and was usually hibernating the machine in between uses, rather than shutting down. Also, I resorted to checking mail via a web mail program at one point.
Could I have hit the wrong option about synchronizing folders? Default is "do not synchronize." When off-line, I only want to read and answer messages from the inbox, and have them sent from the outbox when I again have access. What is the proper way to do this? I don't have any messages in folders except a few draft e-mails.
I'm running Evolution 2.26 on Jaunty. What did I do wrong, and how do I fix it! PS: Is there a more specific forum for Evolution?
