how I can get elinks to open pdfs using xpdf? I know that there are other browsers/pdf programs but I'm using this across the internet and this seems to be the lowest bandwidth option!
View 1 RepliesI'm the only person seeing this: xpdf is slow to render PDFs and navigating through a document is ponderous. The problem is there on my laptop ( Core i3 ) and my desktop ( Core i7 ). I played with the ./configure options in the Slackbuild and deleting the -mtune=i686 option made it much more responsive. It's so bad I've got Debian on a separate partition and I boot into that if I need to look at PDFs.

Currently, when I double click on a PDF in the downloaded file list, it opens up in Adobe Reader, even though evince is currently the default in nautilus. How I can change it so that downloaded files are opened with evince?

I know I could manually choose /usr/bin/evince or something, but isn't there a way to make Firefox simply see what my desktop settings are, or at least offer me the choices?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed evince on my Arch Linux system as a PDF reader, and everything was fine for a while. And then I installed GIMP. Since then, PDF files have been opening in GIMP. I've tried reinstalling evince, I've tried editing ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list , I've tried editing /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, but PDF files still open in GIMP by default.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI install a nautilus plug-in which in turn installed the elinks browser and now all of my .html files are opening in elinks instead of firefox so how do I get .htm/.html and other web type files to open in firefox instead of elinks.
I also tried removing elinks from my system but then the files just open in gedit so again how do I associate .html (and other web files) with firefox.
BTW firefox is already set as my default browser in System > Prefs > Prefered Applications > Web Browser
I installed elinks from a slackware (slack 12.2) package, and no javascript anything is working. is that something i can only enable before install, or is there something in the setup menu i can do to turn it on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of tricky situation with a Red Hat box, our network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet. I've exported its address using "export http_proxy=http://usernameassword@server_iport" and to test I ran a wget against www.google.co.za and got a response, but using elinks to connect to google gives a proxy requires authentication error. It cant possibly be the credentials as wget can connect. I've confirmed that the proxy was exported by running "env | grep -i proxy", I also tried appending that line on both "/etc/profile" and/or "/root/.bash_profile" with no luck. one other thing I noticed is that passing those arguments directly to elinks works, not only this but "ssh -X server_ip_address" then running firefox& and giving it the proxy address also works. Is the any other way to make this line global, meaning to tell all applications that require internet connection to use the proxy? The server is sitting at a remote location and I only have access to a shell.

My problem is thus... rxvt uses Shift-Left-Click to paste, and elinks uses Shift-Left-Click to select. I need a way to either change elinks (preferably without disabling mouse support - which solves the problem BTW) or RXVT. RXVT is on cygwin, and elinks is on archlinux.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm gonna tell you about slackware installation on my notebook, an acer travelmate 800lci.
On this notebook, I successfully installed (and work with) slackware from version 10.0 till the recent 13.0. Upgrading to a new version till using a new internal hard disk (from 40 GB to 160 GB). After upgrade I fully reinstall slackware 12.2 and then upgrade to 13.0.
Now, I had to use the notebook for testing, so I made a new full installation of slackware 13.0 and after some time a new full installation of slackware 13.1.
On this disk (160 GB P-ATA) I have to pass the following parameter to the kernel:
during installation and boot.
This operation solve the issue that can "see" the full size of the disk (160 GB) and not the 137 GB limit.
Only using slackware 13.1, occur a big (for me) problem.
I can fully reproduce it opening any pdf document with xpdf: moving into document with arrow keys make the cpu goes to 100% and page "fault/s" goes from 30 to 8000 and some times 15000 "fault/s". So, xpdf becomes unusable. This problem reflects in similar manner to other software, like firefox.
Here is my question: what type of analisys could I try to solve/analyze this issue? Maybe the kernel, xorg?
On slackware 13.0 all works perfectly.
I use Vector Linux 6 (based on Slackware 12.1) and I set the encoding to UTF-8 because I use Spanish characters. The problem is that when I try to open files with accent marks, for instance, with xpdf they all look garbled. How can I get xpdf to display the names correctly?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAdobe Reader ain't available for 64-bit so I'm stuck with XPDF (or Okular, which is better than XPDF) and most stuff won't print worth a hoot. I've been reading the manual pages and somewhere or other I'm missing some thing about adding font paths (or replacing the default font paths). I have the complete Adobe Type Library plus TTF's installed in /usr/local/share/fonts (and they work just fine with OpenOffice.org) but I can't seem to figure out how to get them or the Slackware-provided fonts available to XPDF.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI find that some pdf files will not print properly in 32-bit 10.04 using evince. The document is sent to the printer and then the printer simply flashes and never prints the document (I have waited an hour). The same documents *will* print quickly when I print with acrobat reader, although when using reader the the following error message appears in the terminal:
(acroread-en:3915): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_progress_set_percentage: assertion `percentage >= 0 && percentage <= 1.0' failed
The printer is a lexmark X364-dn. The problem seems particularly acute with documents that have been scanned.
Gnome Do as default on my machine tries to run pdfs and they won't open when run but when I tab over and select open it's fine. Can this default be changed and how.

I can read pdf files on my computer, but if try to access one through my google browser, I get a blank page. What can I do to fix? I tried downloading the most recent update of adobe but when I went to run the program I get an error message indicating there is no program to open the update file.

Postscript version 3010 revision 864) and I can print from Firefox. I cannot print PDFs from either Acrobat or Evince. The print jobs show up as completed in the print jobs list.

Printing is not really an option, since I won't fill these forms in one sitting. When I save with Ubuntu's default PDF viewer, the form field data does not seem to be saved along with the PDF.

I am trying to download all the Heroes graphic novels off the nbc site. Originally I was downloading them via the provided links but with ~170 pdfs to download it was going to take a while I used wget to start downloading them a bit faster, I tried the command

in an attempt to download all the pdfs at once, I got an error message

I recently popped in the CD that came with one of my textbooks from school and figured I would be able to rip it pretty easily, but guess what? Too my surprise I find that each chapter of the textbook has it's own PDF file and that each one is encrypted. Is there anyway I can decrypt the PDFs and merge them all into one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedLike [Okular-devel]bug report okular started to crash when opening some pdf files after upgrade to kde 4.3.4 I found out that the probelm was not actually in kde but another update - at some point poppler (libpoppler4, libpoppler-qt4-3 and others) was updated to 0.10.1-1.7.1 but okular did not work fine with it any more. I solved the problem by downgrading poppler back to 0.10.1-1.4 (repo-oss) and all pdfs worked fine again. The bug report above states that newer okular would need actually newer poppler (0.12.x) but it is not provided at least for opensuse 11.1 yet.
