I find myself in unfamiliar territory. I am attempting to get a Dell M610 (in an M100e) running Ubuntu 9.1 64bit to talk to a Dell EMC Fibre Channel Array. The Dell has an Emulex card in it and it appears that the driver is loaded OK. What I am not sure on is what to do next! I have the SAN end configured but how do I get my LUN mounted on Ubuntu ?

Does anyone remember the name of the Dell utility that allows you to view the config of an external array while the server is running, through a CLI. I have a bad drive in one of my servers, but can't take it down right now but want to see the specs on the drive as none of them are labeled.

I've gone to the Open-FCoE.org site and got the tar file open-fcoe-2.6.34.tar.gz and attempted to install it, but there appear to be missing dependencies, such as libhbalinux. However, the more I seem to install, the more there are unresolved dependancies. I've followed the Open_FCoE Target and Iniator Quick Starts, but I'm running into many missing souce dependencies. What exactly I need in the way of packages, files, etc and how to install them? Is there any documentation of how to install FCoE from scratch?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been running Debian for a while, and now have the chance to do some enterprise-level experimentation. I stumbled across a very cheap EMC Clariion CX300 fibre RAID unit on eBay with 10 disks (£90!), so I snapped it up with a fibre HBA. It's not a SAN, technically a DAS in its current configuration. I'd like to know how hard it is to set up one of these as an actual disk device in Debian.I tried installing the HBA (an Agilent Tachyon XL2 PCI-X card, 32 and 64-bit modes) in my current 'live' server (a Celeron 1.2GHz-based machine), but while Debian detected it as a FC controller card, mapping the LUNs within Navisphere on the CX to the host caused nothing (obvious) to show up in the OS. From what I've read about setting up SANs (not DASs, there seems to be precious little info on setting up these), there's firmware involved with the card, and there are no references to getting a Tachyon running under Linux.
I also snagged a good deal on a PowerEdge 1850 server, but as it's the PCI-Express version, the Tachyon won't fit, so I'm considering buying a PCI-E HBA. I found a QLogic QLE2460 for a good price, but I'm hesitant to buy it, in case I still can't get Debian to see the disks. I'd most like to have the device connected to the PowerEdge instead of the Celeron machine. Have I missed a step in the configuration, or is there anything I can do to test if the system is working as it should be? The units we use at work are much simpler: set the RAIDs up, map the host LUNs and the disk shows up in Windows. I'm also sure I've set everything up correctly on the CX, as the same LUN is available to Windows. I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
This card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! Additionally, I can't figure out how to disable my Touchpad's Tap to Click funtionality, which must be done if I'm to effectively use my current KDE installation of openSUSE

I am thinking about getting CentOS 6.x (when it comes out) to learn rhel 6.x. Some features, like KVM, only work on 64-bit. I am seeing gx620s on craigslist for about $100.

Trying to install 64bit onto Dell T3500 with NVidia Quadro NVS 295. Live Cd works and Install completes. When I boot I get BIOS and Disk info then boot switches to flashing cursor after disk read and then Monitor goes into sleep mode.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was curious as to if there was a way to install a 32bit driver on a 64bit system. I have a dell v515w printer and the only driver they provide for it is a 32bit driver. I was wandering if anyone may know of a way to install it or if anyone knows of any other available drivers. I have searched everywhere for i dont know how long and came up with nothing i have tried installing the 32bit libraries and it didnt help.. and going back a 32bit system is out of the question due to ubuntu not wanting to load.. i think it has something to due with my hard drive being to large... but im using ubuntu 10.10 maverick 64bit...

We previously had the server booting from the LUNs on the filer, but after some tinkering around with the fibre channel BIOS, we have the situation where the LUNS seem to be mounted, the OS boots, starts to initialise everything but then stalls, saying:
We have tried loads of combinations of settings in the BIOS and fibre channel BIOS without any success or any idea what may have caused the error.
I have had no problem installing Fedora OS on any of my Dell servers prior to this post. Anyway, I wouldn't call this a problem but recently, we bought another DELL server with Quad Core, 4GB, etc... AND this model has 2 swappable SAS Harddrives.
I wouldn't call myself an expert but then again I am not a newbie too. However, I have never setup any RAID before and now I am forced to setup RAID1 on this server. So, in a way, I am a newbie in setting up RAID

I have a 4-5 year old dell inspiron 600m that i have been running on linux ubuntu for the past 2-3 years. Last week i took it apart to paint the casing, got that done and since I put it back together it has a tendency to become very hot. When i got it back together i also installed a good number of updates.
Also, I can no longer stream videos/ music from the internet. I am not sure if i messed something up when i was putting it back together, or if something in these updates has caused a problem. I have always been able to stream on previous installs, and i cannot honestly remember if i could before i took it apart. i am trying to watch a video on ..... and the cpu usage went clear to 100% and the cpu temperature went up to 99 Deg Celcius. The audio and video didnt even match but for a second or two at the very beginning. When the computer is sitting idle browsing the internet the cpu usage is very low, maybe avg. 15% and the temp drops to 55deg C fairly quickly.
I'm trying to install OpenSuse 11.2 64bit on a new Dell Latitude E6410 notebook. This is the Intel i7 processor with 8 Gb of RAM and Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics. I can boot from my 64bit installer DVD, but once I choose either Live version, to test it out, or just go for Install, after the first selection screen where I can change the default video at the bottom, I just get a black screen, no video.
I can't find any info on installing Suse on this notebook, (I think its only be available for a couple of weeks now). What do I do to get the screen to show me the graphical installer, Or how do I make the KDE Live version run from the 64bit DVD. I also tried the 32bit version DVD, but it wouldn't give graphics either, so it seems like an X issue.
I have a old Dell Inspiron Laptop I would like to use, but it dosent have awhole lot of memory 160megs worth and tried running the live cd of Ubuntu and Lubuntu and all i get on the screen is a blinking cursor. It give me the option to boot off the cd but that is where it stops.

I have got Windows XP Pro installed in my Laptop. It had 2 partitions. In C drive i have got Windows XP.Installed UBUNTU in E Drive. It did partiion E drive futher to install it. Had the GRUB RESCUE prompt initially. But after running the following got into the next problem.

i am trying to get F12 running on my Dell D600 laptop and am having some SERIOUS networking issues.
i had F11 running, but the upgrade process was FUBAR'd and doesn't work so i had to do a clean installation. upon finishing that, i now have no network connectivity.
i try connecting an ethernet cable to eth0 (LAN connection), no connection. i try connecting to my wireless network using wlan0, no connection
i turn off network manager, try adding them manually same thing.
how the frick do i get this thing to connect to the world?
Edit: p.s. the only connection that i've been able to get so far is some halfway connection to my wireless, but it puts me on the 10.x.x.x subnet, and my entire internal network is on 192.168.1.x.
Edit: one other thing, every time i make changes and reboot it tells me to log into system-config-network as root and make further changes
I am brand new to the world of Ubuntu 10.10. I have an acer revo 1600 that was running XP until this weekend, when it crashed. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my machine, and cannot get it to find my Hiro H50191 (which runs on realtek drivers) wireless usb. I run strictly wireless, with no way to run an ethernet cable directly into the computer, unless i can somehow use my shared network off of an old Dell laptop running XP.

GRUB goes along to a point where the final message in both regular and recovery modes is 81.8921591 atal: SRST failed (errno=-16). Is there any way I can recover short of having a professional rescue my data from the hard disk and totally redoing the install. I have had this problem in previous versions but never fatally before. My computer works fine under Windows.
