I received an amber light warning "IB110 - SBE Log Disabled." I've learned from Red Hat documentation that this is "for information only". Where can I find a better explanation of this warning? Also, what is the SBE Log, how can I enable it, and where can I view it? It doesn't seem to be in /var
View 1 Repliesi've configured the machine to use a static ip yet dhclient still runs and obtains an ip. what needs to be done to stop this? it has to be something i can put in a script since i have written a setup script to run on several machines. this setup script creates/modifies several files with a few key ones shown below:
/etc/sysconfig/network

I googled several combinations of Mandriva Linux how-to suid disabled setUID etc... so far all I found was "many distributions are disabling suid for security reasons" nothing specific.
I find myself in unfamiliar territory. I am attempting to get a Dell M610 (in an M100e) running Ubuntu 9.1 64bit to talk to a Dell EMC Fibre Channel Array. The Dell has an Emulex card in it and it appears that the driver is loaded OK. What I am not sure on is what to do next! I have the SAN end configured but how do I get my LUN mounted on Ubuntu ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to ubuntu. Recently installed 10.10 on my dell inspiron 1546. The bluetooth does not seem to be working. In the bluetooth preferences window it says "bluetooth is disabled" and pressing the "turn on bluetooth" does nothing.
lsusb shows nothing.
hciconfig -a shows nothing.
Bluetooth is enabled and working in windows 7 with up to date drivers.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my machine, and cannot get it to find my Hiro H50191 (which runs on realtek drivers) wireless usb. I run strictly wireless, with no way to run an ethernet cable directly into the computer, unless i can somehow use my shared network off of an old Dell laptop running XP.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi have to say that i'm not too familiar with Ubuntu... or Linux in general . I've installed it once, just to test it out but I didn't know how to use it so i just reinstalled windows. The other night, i was bored and decided i wanted to re-try Ubuntu and to my suprise, i found Wubi. I love ubuntu now and i made the decision to permanently switch over to ubuntu.
At first, my wireless wasn't working, but there was a quick fix. All i had to do was go to the Synaptic Package Manager, Reload, and search for "Broadcom." I installed the Broadcom STA Wireless driver and i was online within a couple of minutes. I then played around for a couple of hours before turning my laptop off. But, this morning, when i turned it back on...I coudlnt' connect. When i click the little connection icon in the top right, i see the message "Wireless is disabled".
There is a key on my computer that turns the wireless card on or off, and i have tried it. It doesn't work. I have reinstalled the broadcom driver and it doesn't work. I've rebooted...And it doesn't work. I don't know enough about linux to get a solution and every other solution i find on the internet doesn't work.
I have seen in other threads that you guys usually ask for a a couple of things from the user. ifconfig and the sudo lshw -C network so i have included them below. I also looked into the ubuntu help documentation and it told me to do the lspci command.

I have bluetooth enabled in a Windows desktop Machine, which is connected to internet.
I would like to connect to internet through bluetooth available in my laptop which is running on CentOS 5.3.
I referred to many tutorials in internet, still couldn't configure bluetooth.
I have a Dell Precison 690 system in my lab. I want to downgrade the system from RHEL 5 to RHEL $ since some of my software is not working in RHEL 5. I have the installation CD and the dell driver CD. There are 2 cd drives in the system and I am using both the CDS at the same time. But when the installation asks to select hda or hdb to get the driver cd. I put the CD in the second cd dirve which is connected to hdb. When I select hdb it is not recognizing the cd. When I skip the driver selection step I am getting the error:"No valid device were found on which to create new file"I have used the following and nothing worked:

I think the gx620 is called "64-bit capable" or something like that. I get the idea it's not a true 64-bit machine. I am thinking about getting CentOS 6.x (when it comes out) to learn rhel 6.x. Some features, like KVM, only work on 64-bit. I am seeing gx620s on craigslist for about $100.

The disk I'm using to install RH is the 64 bit copy, it says "For 64-bit AMD64 and INTEL 64" on the front of the disk. After the install I do a "uname -m" and it displays "i686" which indicates a 32 bit OS.1. Why does this happen?2. Is there a CL option that will allow me to force an install of the 64 bit os?I'm confused.I've installed literally over 100 systems and this never happened.

I have considered other Linux OS's such as Ubuntu Desktop, Fedora, and Open SuSe. However, I am of the opinion that RHEL will - from the jump - most fluidly integrate with the Intel Core i7 architecture, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M, and other components. I plan to convert my existing Windows XP installation into a VMWare image and run that as a guest on my Alienware M11x (instead of alternatively running RHEL 5 as a guest). However, I am concerned whether it will be possible for the guest (Windows) OS (or any guest OS for that matter) to recognize/use the Alienware sound/video/LAN/Bluetooth EDR/WWAN/etc. (as the drivers were designed for Windows 7).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).
All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.
The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?
The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.
we are using a DELL server installed with RHEL release 3(update 2) for running SS7 stack. we are using it for telecommunication testing. from last two months it is getting out of network though the server is up. we are not able to connect it through ssh using putty from local desktop. I'm running Fedora 15/2.6.38.6-27.fc15.x86_64. When I run <code>qemu</code> I'm getting "Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support" I know my CPU supports hardware virtualization, it has the vmx flag (grep vmx /proc/cpuinfo). I've checked that:
1. kvm and kvm_intel modules are loaded
2. /dev/kvm exists.
3. I'm in the kvm group, so I can access /dev/kvm..

Is there anyway to run KDE without Plasma?At install I opted out of the kdebase-workspace package, but then didn't have the xwmconfig option to run KDE.Duplicating, then commenting out the original, and on the uncommented line: removing everything after 'Exec='. Taking the 'plasma.desktop' out. ...Deleting the entire file will only get it rewritten again by the system..Now it loads into beautiful void.I still have my GUI, complete with any kApps you might want: konsole, konqueror, and even krunner; but no panels or Desktop Activities.Is it still loading plasma only no longer implementing it? Am I losing precious RAM'CPU usage with plasma getting loaded without being used?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems getting my Ubuntu to work with ATI Radeon 6850. I've had Kubuntu for some time now, and it worked fine on my old card (nVidia 9400 GT). When I changed cards, the boot screen didn't display correctly, and after that I just got a black screen that wasn't responding to anything. I tried reinstalling the whole OS, but even the installation's GUI wouldn't load up.
Next I tired regular Ubuntu. The installation went fine, but the graphic settings were low, as you would expect from a system with no graphics driver. I installed the driver the system automatically suggests but after installing and rebooting I ran into the exact same problem I did with Kubuntu - black screen, no response. I got the notion that this card isn't fully supported yet, but I read other posts saying people got much further with this card then I did. Is there another driver I should be installing?
The AMD tool ATI Catalyst does not provide Linux support for the ATI HD 6850. Running the tool allows the monitor to display in 1080P. However, it results in a watermark stating the hardware isn't supported.
Is there an open source driver that will support this card?
Can the Windows driver be co-opted for Linux?
When will there be an open source driver to support video cards?
I don't know what to do. When I install ATI Catalyst, choosing it gives me an error message, and when I activate proprietary drivers, my screen becomes a glitched mess. How do I make Ubuntu 10.10 work with my ATI Radeon HD 6850?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve been a ubuntu user for about 3 years now, but lately I wanted to find something new. Ubuntu is beginning to feel less and less like "linux". So anyway I am having a bit of trouble getting my gfx card working in suse. I have a AMD Radeon HD 6850. In ubuntu I just get a popup says that restricted drives are available, and i click to install them. but In suse im not quite sure what to do. I believe I have the drives installed correctly, but I get a AMD watermark in the bottom right corner of my screen saying my hardware is unsupported.
What is the easiest way to get the latest working drivers for my video card? and keep them updated properly with each kernel update like in ubuntu? btw, im running openSUSE 11.4 64-bit.
I know this has been asked before, but im a complete noob to suse and I cant seem to find a answer that im able to understand.Other than this issue with my graphics driver I love everything else.
Upgraded to Natty,just after I got this new GPU - ATi Radeon HD 6850.
I cannot activate the driver for it, I have also tried to download and install from AMD but it didn't work. I cannot open the catalyst control centre that is already installed.
When I try I get this.
"system error: Install archives() failed"
When I open the software update application I get this
"Items cannot be installed or removed until the package catalogue is repaired. Do you want to repair it now?"
So click yes. The process is:
