Debian Configuration :: What Default Sources.list That Has Free And Non Free Etc For Squeeze
Jun 16, 2010During playing around sources, synaptic playing I messed up the default list. I know I should have been more careful. Anyways could someone tell me what the default the default sources.list that has free and non free etc for squueze please? I have been trying to get the default list but I cannot find it anywhere. There are alot of lists out there but nothing tagged like the "default" list.

Apr 20, 2016How do you list only installed packages that were not installed automatically? I see in aptitude that it will list whether they were installed automatically or not, but it is hard to find them because the are a lot more installed automatically than non-automatically.

Jan 11, 2016I have realized that in not installing suggested packages I've missed out on a ton of doc files, which would really come in handy while I'm away from internet access.
Is there a way take a list of currently installed packages and find out which of them have doc packages available? Possibly install them in a single step? I have been playing around with aptitude and apt-rdepends, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Somehow take a list of installed packages, run it through an apt-cache search, and end up with a list of -doc packages to install? My bash-fu isn't the greatest, and I suppose this could be a bad idea to begin with.

Jun 25, 2010I have a system that will not boot as /usr has been destroyed and I would like to get a list of installed packages before re-installing. I know that it's possible to get this using dpkg or apt, but I cannot run those.
Where in the filesystem is this information stored and what's the best way to get a list of installed apps from the files?

May 31, 2010I have a dead system that was running Debian Linux (lenny). I can boot into emergency mode, but nothing else. I will likely have to reinstall Debian. I've read lots of things online about how to get a list of currently installed packages. Which is fine and dandy if the system is working and I can log into it. I'm basically wanting to extract such a list from a hard drive containing an installation I can't log into normally. I can access the filesystem just fine, and nothing related to aptitude has been damaged.

Dec 31, 2009I keep getting the following error when trying to install anything:
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/mirrorl...d-11&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 14] HTTP Error 404: Not Found
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: rpmfusion-free-updates
So this tells me the servers are down however if i put the link in FF I don't get 404.I am installing on a new box and I can't get the stuff I need.

Feb 17, 2010I understand there is a file that stores the repositories' information, but I can't find it!Is there a way I can create a list of what applications have been installed?The idea is that if I am running a backup, finding a way to save the repository list and applications installed so if I am upgrading, or fixing a borked system by re-installing Fedora, I could copy the repo list back, and run the applications list like ode:yum install <cat apps.txt?> and get all of the applications I've installed via Yum without having to remember them all?Is there anything else, outside of /home, I should look at backing up? SELinux settings?

Dec 14, 2010I have installed a package on Centos 5.5, and need to find out the repository it came from, so I can enable the source rpms for that particular repository, and download the source, and rebuild the package. Is there some way using yum or rpm to find out which repo the installed package came from? I know Smart PM shows this info, but it has been hanging on Centos 5.5, for some strange reason, so that's not really an option for now.

Jul 25, 2010I have a Qr barcode to decrypt and to do this I installed from the official ubuntu repo the software needed.
The problem is this: I can't see the software in any menu.
From shell I know how to create a Qr barcode, but I'm unable to decrypt one.
Someone have any idea about how to do it from CLI or in any other way?

hamachi (which i later realized would never have worked)
i tried to get haystack but it wouldn't build.

I installed the driver properly set the ip of device using utility given in the driver. when i am trying to open the live view of camera using a utility given (tag_show) it gives me error in /var/log/messages TBP ERROR: No buffers available in free buffers list When i looked into the code of utility it is doing ioctl call where it is failing with errno=12.

Fedora Installation :: Updates After Install And Repo Lists / Saying Repo Not Found?
Mar 26, 2011i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.

Nov 2, 2010I've been using Fedora 11 x86_64 for over a year and am about to upgrade to Fedora 13 using a genuine Fedora installation CD that I got last summer at OSCON. I've made a full system backup, but before I take the plunge I want to get a list of all installed applications. I have tons of special applications installed, many of which took tweaks to get running. Just in case something breaks so badly that I have to reinstall I want to be sure I can put everything back, even if it takes me several days work.I know I have read about utilities that will generate a list of installed apps, but I can't find any.
