I find the window shadows a little phony against a light background. Not a big deal, but just curious if there is a way to change this. Tried through Compiz, but that didn't actually change anything.

So it was easier for my eyes to read books in rtf, txt & so on formats instead of the default white background which is very annoying. Can you please suggest me a software like that for linux?

Then the terminal turned into a light blue background that says "Package Configuration" with a grey text box titled "Configuring sun-java-jre" and then has the java license agreement.I pressed enter assuming that would accept the agreement but it did not. How do I accept the license agreement so the installation can continue...?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having a issue with gwibber: the window doesn't open, but I can tell it's working because I can tweet via Me menu. Also, the "microblogging" arrow/checkbox is active in the messaging-menu.
The window opens without problems in my dad's session, so I guess that if I delete some config file in my /home it will get fixed. where are the gwibber config files? I couldn't find them =/

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhy does on some computers my terminal window have a background I can see through and on others its a solid color? I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on 4 machines as base OS and I have many virtual machines of it also. I havent changed the terminal preferences on any of them, however on some computers the terminal background which is purple is not solid in that you can see what is in the background behind it. On others the background is truly solid purple; you can not see behind/through it.
Is there any way to change the terminal window for these machines that are displaying solid to the 'see-thru' way? Ive been using some ebooks and things and really like opening up vi/vim in the purple see-thru window that allows me to write and see the text in the background...however on some machines I can not do this because the terminal display is truly solid. ? All my computers have the same profile settings for terminal..

Note - I am making a distinction here between what I call see-thru and the 'transparent' setting in the terminal preferences as this seems to use the desktop background and is different from what I am talking here.
Today I download a gdm login window theme package, but I don't know how to install it. Results by google searching shows it is very easy on ubuntu by entering System-> Administration -> login window. But I don't find that way on fedora now. The theme package I download is named GDM-BrasillinuxEye.tar.gz . I download it from official web [URL] .

I did remake my minimal installation. My window manager produces no background picture else I did add someone. So i will do it using xorg-xli. I did find the (in other cases usual) xinitrc as /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc but in only refers to an other script
and the other script (/etc/X11/Xsession) does not include some usuable steps to include easily supplementary starting commands.

I'm fairly new to Debian/GNOME, and I'm running Squeeze and GNOME 2 and I have some questions. How exactly do I change the background image for the login window? I've looked up various suggestions but none of them seem to work - the appearances window does not ever seem to change the background image for the login screen. Also, whenever I log out or when I close the lid on my laptop and it suspends, I am unable to log back in - all I see is a black screen and my cursor, which I can move.

I have a weird shadow behind my fonts. I don't know how to get rid of it. Its almost hard to see the shadow, but it makes things difficult to read.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIt took me a while and maybe someone else already know this, but I recently added RGBA to give me more transparency. But when I did this the shadows on the dropdown menus on the panel and in nautilus were not shadowed.
To correct this in Compizconfig Settings Manager: Turn on Window Decoration is you haven't already. Copy/Paste this line in the Shadow Windows info box:

That should be enough to get your drop shadows back on the drop down menu items. worked for me. Even works on the menus in Chromium even if the GTK themes window border is off, but is still won't shadow the window if GTK window borders are turned off.
If I set it to None, my window borders and the buttons on the bottom panel disappear (which also was a problem for me in 10.04). If I set it to Normal, the shadows have incorrect transparency. And I also have a weird issue with Terminal as well, but that's less important [URL]... Before you ask about Compiz, it's pretty much always off. Although the problem did start after I started using it. (no screenshot of the None issue because for some reason it won't let me.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have searched around but did not find anything similar, so I make a new post. I have installed Mac4Lin icons, theme and font, and I am using Emerald (with "emerald --replace" command in the window manager of compiz) and everythin is fine.
Some few times (every 4~5 days), when I start the system, it opens up as the title, like Emerald is not starting or something. If I logoff and then logon again, it is fine. Not that is a serious problem... just annoying in case you want to demonstrate the "power of the system" in an important meeting and it shows up like that.
I'm using a netbook, and I thought I'd connect a monitor I had in the closet and see how things went. I can get a decent multi-desktop setup working, but it comes with an unusual side effect. I don't know if it's of any significance, but these weird shadows appear on all windows, menus and panels. I deativated any Compiz effects I thought might be arcing up, but that didn't seem to do anything.
For what it's worth, I tried this monitor in KDE and it seems to work fine. Netbook Edition promptly soiled itself and went into deep shock with the monitor plugged in, however -- both screens flickering, Docky spasming out of control. But I digress! The netbook is a HP Mini 210 and I believe this monitor is a Mitsubishi Diamond View DV173.
Swapped an hard disk from a laptop to another, now on a 2007 Compaq Presario. When in dual screen, the Z-order of windows and shadows it totally messed up. Focused windows appear BELOW nonfocused ones, and shadows appear all OVER the windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know Metacity has a flag which enables compositing, and draws shadows under windows. Thing is, I prefer shadows because it helps me distinguish stuff on the desktop - a sort of usability an readability feature for me. However, I don't know if my older Thinkpad is too slow to do compositing in X or Metacity code is not optimized enough (yet), but turning compositing on makes my desktop experience too sluggish for my tastes.
I know Windows XP did shadows without compositing big portions of the screen, and it worked fast enough even for the desktop computers of its day. Anyone knows what are my options here? I like GNOME and/or GTK (haven't though much about the important details here) and would like to keep it. Do I need to switch to Openbox or Fluxbox or something like that? I am on Ubuntu 10.04, Thinkpad T43 with Pentium-M 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM.
I would like to install this game with Wine, but when I open one of the exe files I get a message saying the file is not executable and since it's in a CD I can't change the permissions to make them executable. What should I do in order to be able to play the game?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my office 2003, I am not sure whether its graphics problem or is it a bug in wine. I have the latest version of Wine and I installed Office 2003. Everything works fine, I mean I can open the documents, edit them and do everything. The only problem I am facing is that when I click any thing on the menu and expand the menu, the shadows are created and I am unable to see the expanded menu. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to 11.04 and found out unity has no desktop window selector at all. After a quick google search it turned out that clicking the Ubuntu icon on the top left corner should bring out some kind of expo-like style selector but that turned out not to be the case for me.

Doesn't matter how many windows are open.
Is this some upgrade related error or am I missing something?
I got many problems after installing ubuntu 10.04 on del vostro!! Problems: when I right click the background i can find only one option "change background".I am expecting something like "create folder" ,"create launcher " etc. when i tried to move clock, notification area, window selector, i can't because all the things out there are locked and and unlocked is not available! i can't find window decorations for nautilus and most other windows but i have it in case of system settings windows. i tried metacity --replace but it is not working.
