Ubuntu :: Dropdown Menu Shadows With RGBA And Compiz?

Jul 1, 2010

It took me a while and maybe someone else already know this, but I recently added RGBA to give me more transparency. But when I did this the shadows on the dropdown menus on the panel and in nautilus were not shadowed.

To correct this in Compizconfig Settings Manager: Turn on Window Decoration is you haven't already. Copy/Paste this line in the Shadow Windows info box:

[Code]...

That should be enough to get your drop shadows back on the drop down menu items. worked for me. Even works on the menus in Chromium even if the GTK themes window border is off, but is still won't shadow the window if GTK window borders are turned off.

Ubuntu :: Type In An Address, It Does Not Bring The Dropdown Menu?

Oct 18, 2010

My Ubuntu goes to sleep after 5 minutes. When I wake it up, and enter Firefox, and try to type in an address, it does not bring the dropdown menu with the history of the URLs that begin with the string I just typed. Is there anyway to get it to stop forgetting the history after Ubuntu comes back from sleep?

Ubuntu :: Firefox Menu Bar And Location Bar Dropdown Is Unresponsive?

Nov 11, 2010

I have been having issues with the Firefox browser for the past few months. Firefox version: 3.6.11 Ubuntu x86_64 OS: Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64
Add ons: Flash block, Ad Block+, image block Occasionally on booting up and starting Firefox, the top menu bar, the location bar drop down do not work. Clicking them has no effect. Though I can enter a URL in the location bar, the drop down that gives recently browsed sites is unavailable. Using the keyboard shortcuts for these doesn't work too. So essentially all my browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords are not accessible.

Restarting the browser/system doesn't . Deleting the whole profile folder restores the functionality, though it takes me back to a blank slate as far as my personalisation and browsing history is concerned and everything needs to be rebuilt. Restoring the profile folder causes the issue to reappear. So it appears to have something to do with the profile stored. Would like to look if any one has has similar issues but can't get a hang of how to best describe this or how others would have described it. I am sure you understand how bad it feels when all the history, bookmarks, passwords etc are in a way lost when this happens. Also how and where to post this or search if already similar bug is posted with Ubuntu and Firefox.

P.S: Is there a way to separate the personal info like history, passwords and bookmarks from the profile somehow?

Ubuntu :: Dropdown Menu In Places On Panel Always Only Launches Banshee?

Aug 7, 2010

Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid), GNOME 2.30.2. After some time of correct operation, my dropdown menu from "Places" in the GNOME Panel has gone wrong.

If I click Places and then click on any of the dropdown shown, Home Folder, Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads, before the horizontal line separator, Banshee launches. Those after the separator, Computer, Floppy and my Hard Drives, launch correctly.

I have tried restoring the Panel to its original setting with no luck.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Shadows When File Menu Of Office 2003 Clicked

Aug 10, 2010

I have a problem with my office 2003, I am not sure whether its graphics problem or is it a bug in wine. I have the latest version of Wine and I installed Office 2003. Everything works fine, I mean I can open the documents, edit them and do everything. The only problem I am facing is that when I click any thing on the menu and expand the menu, the shadows are created and I am unable to see the expanded menu. I attached the screenshot of how it looks so that you have a rough idea what I meant.

Ubuntu :: Graphics 10.10 - Wireless Icon At The Top - Dropdown Menu Is Displayed At A 45 Degree Angle

Mar 31, 2011

I have a Hp Touchsmart Tx2 with AMD processor and ATi graphics. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) last night for the second time, the first time i had this problem so i thought maybe another download and another install would help, and i have dual boot setup with windows vista on the other partition. So the install went fine but when i am at the home screen in Ubuntu and i click something like the wireless icon at the top, or the time at the top, or any of those icons the dropdown menu is displayed at a 45 degree angle or something.

Also the drop down menus in firefox will do it too, i'm sure others will as well. It is really wierd and i already installed the flxgr Ati driver (i think thats what its called) via the additional drivers application. Also when i open the terminal it is displayed at this same angle. The outline is perfect put the content inside is skewed. Also I should mention overall its just slow and laggy and the wifi cuts in and out. I took some pictures with my camera cause when i took a screen shot the menu for that was slanted and i couldn't see what the options were.

Programming :: The 'A' In RGBA: What Does It Mean

Mar 8, 2010

I know about Red, Green, and Blue, but I'm not so sure about the 'A'. What does it really mean? I want to know this for this code:

Code:

int rgba (int Red, int Green, int Blue, int <WhateverTheAStandsFor>)
{
return;
};

Essentially, I want to be able to use this code to fine-tune RGBA to my preferences, not just with "true" and "false", but with in-between options, so that I can control how transparent or opaque the desktop is going to be. And I will do this with C++, not original C, unlike the existing Gtk RGBA module.

Ubuntu :: No Menu Bars In Compiz After Natty Upgrade?

Jun 8, 2011

After upgrading to Natty from the previous version and switching to Ubuntu Classic my compiz settings were completely wiped out. No problem, I just re-entered them. The problem is that I don't get any menu bar on my windows. It also happens once in a while in Metacity but using the compiz fusion icon utility to reload the window manager will usually fix the issue. I have had this problem intermittently in the past but have always been able to resolve it by reloading the window manager. Now when I'm using compiz I ALWAYS have this issue and it makes compiz unusable. Compiz is not just eye-candy for me, it has become integral to the way I use my computer. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears.

Everything upgraded fine except I lost my menu bars on all screens when they were opened. I downgraded back down to 7.8 and still the same issue. Right now I have no compiz on so I can have have my menu bars. There is something I must be missing when I installed or reinstalled or upgraded compiz. I would like to get an original compiz setup that a fresh install gives.

Ubuntu :: Running A Command System Wide To Fix RGBA?

Feb 22, 2010

I'm trying to run a command that will let me run some programs. If I run the command in a terminal, then I can launch the programs from it fine, but not from anywhere except that terminal. This is the command that makes things work:Code:export GTK_RGBA_APPS=allbut:exe:checkgmail:swiftfox:firefoxThis command disables RGBA for the programs listed, which seem to have problems with it. I hoped I could use this command to somehow apply it system wide permanently. I've tried adding it /etc/rc.local and rebooting, but it doesn't work.Is there a way of doing this? Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Is there a better way to disable RGBA for certain programs?

Software :: Compiz No Minimize, Maximize, Or Close Menu?

Dec 17, 2008

I am using compiz in Kubuntu and I have run across an interesting problem. Occasionally when I reboot and login kubuntu will load but there is no window manager (ie no minimize, maximize, or close) and compiz doesn't actually load (no effects work). Like I said this only happens occasionally. I can fix the problem by using the following command:compiz --replaceOnce I type this command compiz loads and the window manager finishes loading as well. Other times when I reboot Kubuntu will load just find as well as compiz automatically with no problems. The problem is really intermittent. Any ideas on how to fix the problem?I installed the program through the adept-manager and I enabled it through the kubuntu menu->system->desktop effectsI didn't modify any file to make it load automatically it just did it by itself. I also do not have any nvidia card installed and once compiz is loaded it runs flawlessly.

Programming :: Hosting New Gtk RGBA Module Created On Launchpad?

Some few times (every 4~5 days), when I start the system, it opens up as the title, like Emerald is not starting or something. If I logoff and then logon again, it is fine. Not that is a serious problem... just annoying in case you want to demonstrate the "power of the system" in an important meeting and it shows up like that.

Ubuntu :: Connecting External Monitor Causes Interior Shadows?

Nov 27, 2010

I'm using a netbook, and I thought I'd connect a monitor I had in the closet and see how things went. I can get a decent multi-desktop setup working, but it comes with an unusual side effect. I don't know if it's of any significance, but these weird shadows appear on all windows, menus and panels. I deativated any Compiz effects I thought might be arcing up, but that didn't seem to do anything.

For what it's worth, I tried this monitor in KDE and it seems to work fine. Netbook Edition promptly soiled itself and went into deep shock with the monitor plugged in, however -- both screens flickering, Docky spasming out of control. But I digress! The netbook is a HP Mini 210 and I believe this monitor is a Mitsubishi Diamond View DV173.

Ubuntu :: Shadows Under Windows With GNOME _without_ Compositing?

Apr 2, 2011

I know Metacity has a flag which enables compositing, and draws shadows under windows. Thing is, I prefer shadows because it helps me distinguish stuff on the desktop - a sort of usability an readability feature for me. However, I don't know if my older Thinkpad is too slow to do compositing in X or Metacity code is not optimized enough (yet), but turning compositing on makes my desktop experience too sluggish for my tastes.

I know Windows XP did shadows without compositing big portions of the screen, and it worked fast enough even for the desktop computers of its day. Anyone knows what are my options here? I like GNOME and/or GTK (haven't though much about the important details here) and would like to keep it. Do I need to switch to Openbox or Fluxbox or something like that? I am on Ubuntu 10.04, Thinkpad T43 with Pentium-M 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM.
