Ubuntu :: Installing Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire With Wine
May 16, 2011
I would like to install this game with Wine, but when I open one of the exe files I get a message saying the file is not executable and since it's in a CD I can't change the permissions to make them executable. What should I do in order to be able to play the game?
In windows if i want to see/search for ALL files i go to the search app and type in *.* (star dot star). what is the procedure in linux/ubuntu? what command is it? i want to see ALL files on my NTFS usb back-up drive.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on my Dell Dimension 9100 it has a dual core 3ghz possessor. 2.5 gigs of dual channel ddr2 memory, with a nvidea gforce 9400 1gig of memory graphic card. I installed the game a couple of weeks ago, everything works really good, but in the last couple of days when I am playing the game it starts to lag really bad during game play, it goes in and out of the lag, if I wait 10-20 seconds it will get back to normal, but it is very annoying.
I am trying to get rid of shadows on all my text that has appeared today. This happens using Firefox,Chrome and Opera browsers. Usually I Google any problems and a solution normally pops up via Ubuntu Forums but no luck this time.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling Window Decoration in ccsm, I've made sure "shadow windows" is set to "any". Running compiz --replace doesn't help.
I'm a web programmer and I used to do my stuff on Windows, but the first time I use Ubuntu and Kubuntu I fell in love with it. Now I'm using Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala on my machine. But I have a problem installing IE7 using Wine1.1.14. I need to install IE7 so I can test my web applications.
I installed Wine on my machine just a few minutes ago and as part of the installation the following packages are also installed: ttf-liberation, ttf-mscorefonts-installer, ttf-symbol-replacement, ttf-tahoma-replacement. These add extra fonts to the system which I'm assuming are required by windows programs running inside Wine. The problem is though that Firefox also seems to be using these fonts because the fonts now look different inside Firefox. Not a huge difference, but you can tell they are different and they just don't look "right" to the eye. They are no longer as pleasing as they were when Firefox was using the default Ubuntu fonts.
Is there a way to keep these fonts for use by Wine, but not allow any other program on Ubuntu to use them?
I am trying to install itunes 9 and 8 both in my ubuntu 9.10 with wine, how ever everytime the installation fails. In itunes 8 it says quicktime is not installed even though under the program it says it is and in itunes 9 after a while it says an error has occured. i need to sync my Iphone with my computer immedately.
I have clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 and set up wine beta release. I have tried to install SimCity (Win95 ver) under wine, there is no setup.exe on cd though, there is only bootme.exe which doesn't seem to install simcity. I did this from terminal and drag the icon to the terminal after adding sudo wine (and space).
I'm basic Ubuntu user. I got new notebook Acer 5745G with GeForce GT 330M. There is no problem installing Ubuntu. After that I'm installing the recommended Nvidia driver. Everything goes well until the system asks me to restart. I'm making restart and that's it. The loading screen is not showing so as the log in screen. And the solution for now is to uninstall and install Ubuntu again. I thing updating the graphic driver is necessary thing. Not sure if this is a bug, but for sure the system is not working after updating it.
It took me a while and maybe someone else already know this, but I recently added RGBA to give me more transparency. But when I did this the shadows on the dropdown menus on the panel and in nautilus were not shadowed.
To correct this in Compizconfig Settings Manager: Turn on Window Decoration is you haven't already. Copy/Paste this line in the Shadow Windows info box:
[Code]...
That should be enough to get your drop shadows back on the drop down menu items. worked for me. Even works on the menus in Chromium even if the GTK themes window border is off, but is still won't shadow the window if GTK window borders are turned off.
If I set it to None, my window borders and the buttons on the bottom panel disappear (which also was a problem for me in 10.04). If I set it to Normal, the shadows have incorrect transparency. And I also have a weird issue with Terminal as well, but that's less important [URL]... Before you ask about Compiz, it's pretty much always off. Although the problem did start after I started using it. (no screenshot of the None issue because for some reason it won't let me.
I have searched around but did not find anything similar, so I make a new post. I have installed Mac4Lin icons, theme and font, and I am using Emerald (with "emerald --replace" command in the window manager of compiz) and everythin is fine.
Some few times (every 4~5 days), when I start the system, it opens up as the title, like Emerald is not starting or something. If I logoff and then logon again, it is fine. Not that is a serious problem... just annoying in case you want to demonstrate the "power of the system" in an important meeting and it shows up like that.
I'm using a netbook, and I thought I'd connect a monitor I had in the closet and see how things went. I can get a decent multi-desktop setup working, but it comes with an unusual side effect. I don't know if it's of any significance, but these weird shadows appear on all windows, menus and panels. I deativated any Compiz effects I thought might be arcing up, but that didn't seem to do anything.
For what it's worth, I tried this monitor in KDE and it seems to work fine. Netbook Edition promptly soiled itself and went into deep shock with the monitor plugged in, however -- both screens flickering, Docky spasming out of control. But I digress! The netbook is a HP Mini 210 and I believe this monitor is a Mitsubishi Diamond View DV173.
Swapped an hard disk from a laptop to another, now on a 2007 Compaq Presario. When in dual screen, the Z-order of windows and shadows it totally messed up. Focused windows appear BELOW nonfocused ones, and shadows appear all OVER the windows.
I know Metacity has a flag which enables compositing, and draws shadows under windows. Thing is, I prefer shadows because it helps me distinguish stuff on the desktop - a sort of usability an readability feature for me. However, I don't know if my older Thinkpad is too slow to do compositing in X or Metacity code is not optimized enough (yet), but turning compositing on makes my desktop experience too sluggish for my tastes.
I know Windows XP did shadows without compositing big portions of the screen, and it worked fast enough even for the desktop computers of its day. Anyone knows what are my options here? I like GNOME and/or GTK (haven't though much about the important details here) and would like to keep it. Do I need to switch to Openbox or Fluxbox or something like that? I am on Ubuntu 10.04, Thinkpad T43 with Pentium-M 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM.
I've been trying for a while to get Ubuntu to support Divx and so far I can't get it to install. I've tried getting it to run with Wine but it doesn't trust any executable file. I then tried using Ubuntu Software Centre to see if there is a Ubuntu version but so far I can't seem to get even that version to work. The main issue though is that it would be nice to be able to run software via Wine and I don't know why I can't figure that out lol.
Just attempted installing wine from the synaptic.IT has downloaded all the deb files required for its installation but hangs and keeps giving me one message "Giving up"this a screenshot of it
I recently got a new netbook and the first thing I did was install ubuntu along side the XP install. The problem I'm running into right now is when I try to install a statistics program that I need for class I get an error. There is a popup labeled RegUtil with the error "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument" and in the terminal window there is the message "wine: cannot find L"C:\windows\system32\netsh.exe."
I am currently trying to install adobe photoshop with wine in my computer. I downloaded a torrent copy and everything is working fine with it.. Just one problem... When it starts to initiates the installer, I begin to have problems. The initializer loads fully, but then, when it's done, the initializer goes but it doesn't bring up an installation screen..
i have software for windows [installation exe file], and i need installed on Ubuntu 11.04, i am already install Q4Wine and wine windows program loader, when i start to run my windows software using open with Q4Wine or wine windows program loader i get the error message as file attached:
I am facing one big problem at the time of installation "WINE- Software" in Ubantu 9.10 (Karmic Release), errors are like-
GPG error: url karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 5A9A06AEF9CB8DB0
Actually I was planning to work with some "Windows application" program thru "Wine package", but could not able to install WINE software because of this error.
I installed Wine no problem. Then I downloaded a Windows Chess program(ECTool) to the desktop. I right clicked on the ECTool icon and checked run with Wine. The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Anyone use this program or have any ideas what to do next? ECTool is listed as a program that works with Wine.
I tried to install word2007 on kubuntu 9.10 with wine1.01 but everytime i got an error message in wine saying "setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupt or not available. Run setup again from the original source disk or download location"
This is strange because in my previous installation of kubuntu 9.10 I could run word2007 without any problems.
