Ubuntu :: Error. "your Gstreamer Installation Is Missing A Plug-in"
Apr 14, 2011
installed radio tray. entered url for radio station but getting error. "your gstreamer installation is missing a plug-in." How do I find out which plug-in?
When I try to use Rythmbox, I got a message error saying that your "GStreamer installation is missing a plugin" and it says that is ID3 tag demuxer I already have this streamer plugins installed, so I don't know which one is missing
I get the following message when I try to install the package:Gstreamer streaming media framework "ugly" plug-insPG key retrieval failed: [Errno 14] Could not open/read file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-rpmfusion-free-fedora-11.92-x86_64I'm running the Fedora 12 beta.
I was trying to convert a flac audio to mp3 using soundconverter & its failing with the error:
Quote:
GStreamer error: Gstreamer encountered a general stream error.
I should note that the flac is a rip of an actual Mono Vinyl disc. Am not exactly sure how that was done but I was interested in converting some those files to ogg & mp3. OGG conversion doesn't give any error.
Below is the result when launching soundconverter from the terminal & trying to convert the flac file(s) to mp3 (i just tried ogg to mp3 & the same error occurs):
Code: $ soundconverter SoundConverter 1.4.4 using Gstreamer version: 0.10.28, Python binding version: 0.10.18 using gio
I installed an MP3 plugin, and tried to play a podcast on Rhythmbox, and was presented with an error message, which said: Your GStreamer installation is missing a plugin. How can I remedy this?
Just installed Clementine audio player, but it won't play mp4s. It says gstreamer is missing a plugin, google search turned up some leads but they didn't lead anywhere. Mp4s work fine in Amarok, and i have already installed the restricted extras package.
The gstreamer-0.10 good plugins in CentOS 5.4 seems to be missing souphttpsrc. I looked online and can only seem to find references to it being in the bad plugins, yet the bad plugins documentation says it was moved to the good plugins. My experience downloading rpms is that the dependencies to build anything for gstreamer require I also download about 20 other rpms.I am reluctant to download/install rpms for a different distro.Has anyone successfully installed newer good plugins (particularly, souphttpsrc)?
i have installed xchat but when i connect to ubuntu server and try to chat gstreamer chat room i get : #gstreamer :Cannot send to channei tried to google but dint find any solution
I've been trying to get soundconverter to work on ubuntu 10.10, I've checked I've got all the restricted packages installed, gone into synaptic and installed a bunch of gstreamer stuff, downloaded and compiled the latest version of soundconverter but whatever I do, the following happens:
1. open soundconverter
2. open file (wav)
3. set to convert to mp3 (default)
4. Click convert and instantly get the ever so helpful "general stream error" message!
I have a .swf file that I was going to play, but when I try to open it, totem (which apparently is my .swf program) says "GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error." Now since I know a little bit about linux, I opened up a terminal and redirected the stderr and stdout to a file called "error". Then I read the file and it said:
** Message: Error: GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error. gstffmpegdemux.c(1243): gst_ffmpegdemux_open (): /GstPlayBin2lay/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0/GstDecodeBin2:decodebin20/ffdemux_swf:ffdemux_swf0: Input/output error
So then I interpreted that as meaning that there was a library called "gstffmpegdemux.c" that needed replacing. So I tried using synaptic to replace. Then Synaptic wouldn't let me get the package, Though I could see it existed (I would put up a screenshot, but for some reason it won't let me upload) then I tried aptitude, which claims it doesn't exist, and then apt-get which also claims that it doesn't exist.
i had 10.4 installed perfectly under a different partition but when i try to boot xp, i get a missing hal.dll error. so i patched up xp but now cannot get into ubuntu. how do i fix this booting problem? also my swap of 10g is probably overkill. if i could change that. but its not a priority, i just want my ubuntu back. here are my diagnostics:
I've been trying to install the latest version of Emacs from source but I'm running into a trouble. The commands "./configure" and "make" work just fine. However, when I run "sudo checkinstall" I get a message saying that makeinfo is missing:
Code: makeinfo is missing - cannot build manuals make: *** [info] Error 1 **** Installation failed. Aborting package creation. Cleaning up...OK Bye. What is Error 1
Recently I bought a Toshiba NB100 from a family friend. All was going well until I installed some updates and now when I try to unmute my speakers I get this error message pop up.....
"No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found"
I am trying to reinstall ubuntu on my asus eee netbook. When I try to open ubuntu an error message appears saying that this file <windowsroot>system32hal.dll.> is corrupt or missing. How to I reinstall this file/what happened?
I have a netbook that has a dead windows partition. I've installed ubuntu and have never tried to recover the dead windows installation. However, I now need that space in the main partition. I ran the liveUSB of ubuntu and ran gparted. I have an error on that partition.

I think I may have attempted to resize this and I got this error. I cannot get into windows to fix anything, so I can't run scan disk or fix disk etc. I'm not sure if I can get a command prompt. I don't have a CD drive. Can I reinstall linux and use the entire hard drive? Will it do this, or will the cluster errors prevent this? Can I fix this so to resize the windows partition?
Hello. I use dvd::rip 0.98.10 to create .wav sound files from DVDs and then play them in Totem Movie Player 2.28.2 (using GStreamer 0.10.25) mainly because I like the visualizations. It always used to work, but a recent batch will not play. I get: GStreamer encountered a general stream error. I probably used a more recent version of dvd::rip for the ones which don't play. Both MPlayer and VLC Media player plays them without a problem and older rips play fine in Totem too. The Audio/Video properties of a 'faulty' file (as shown in Nautilus) are greyed out for codec, channels etc., whereas a 'good' file shows Audio properties as Uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio etc., but running soxi on a good or bad file gives the same (good) results. I'd like to get this working, without doing anything to the .wavs preferably, so I guess I need to do something to Gstreamer, but I'm really not sure how to proceed. I'm using Linux Mint 8 64bit (rt kernel) and very nice it is too.
I was trying to install Ubuntu as a dual-boot on my Windows Vista laptop. The hard drive is 250 gb: Vista boot 157 gb partition; a partially-occupied 33 gb partition which was designated as swap-space; a newly partitioned and ext3 formatted 30gb for the Ubuntu installation. I believe there is also a hidden partition ~20 gb with "hidden" system info. During installation I received an error message concerning the swap space partition, which forced me out of the installation and back to the ubuntu partition manager screen. Now in Vista my 33 and 30 gb partitions are missing. Is there anyway I can get back to pre-Ubuntu state?
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 for the first time. The plan is to create a 10Gig partition on which i would put Fedora and leave Vista on the other partition. I have successfully done this however when i reboot to try and get to VISTA i am seeing an error message saying that BootyMgr is missing....Can you help me with this?
I got the following errors in spite of having both the packages installed. What can be done?

i have fedora12 and have been noticing that on a few programs (xvidcap, nALFS; just to name a couple) anyways these programs when i go to install they will come up with a missing dependency error and so i'll go hunt them down and install them and i am told that they are already installed...so what is the deal...any ideas. should i just go for a reinstall of the whole system?
So I have a single hard drive with two partitions, and I am trying to install a dual boot of Windows XP and Ubuntu. However, I am having an issue installing the Windows XP component.
I keep getting an error along the lines of a missing/corrupt hal.dll after the first restart in the install. This has happened every time I tried to install windows XP, from several different discs, all of which I have confirmed to work on another computer.
I have tried several things for fixing this, from repairing the MBR and boot.ini to replacing hal.dll from hal.dl_, and nothing works. However, Ubuntu 10.04 installs and boots properly.
My previous setup was Windows Vista on partition 1, Windows 7 on partition 2, and my recovery partition on partition 3. I'm trying to switch from vista to fedora (cuz I hate vista), so I removed partition 1 and 3, expanded partition 2 a bit (from 80 gig to 150), and moved it all the way to the left with gparted. This gave me a 150g partition labled sda2 as my first partition. I then installed fedora on the (about) 150g of free space. After going into fedora, I used fdisk /dev/sda with menu option f to fix my partition labels. Now I have Windows 7 on partition sda1, fedora's boot on sda2, and fedora on a logical volume in sda3.
My issue is that I have that same old error bootmgr is missing when I try to boot to windows 7. I checked my grub menu, my fdisk, it all looks good to me, so hopefully someone can help me out. If I'm unable to do this without reformatting, could someone please advise me on a program to clone my windows 7? I have a lot of expensive programs on there that I could, in theory, go back to the manufacturer and request a new copy, but I doubt if I even have any license keys written down and I don't know where they would be, so hopefully I can pull them all off and have them work on a new install. Contents of fdisk -l and cat /boot/grub/menu.lst to follow:
I have currently installed Xubuntu via wubi on my windows XP. When I try to boot, it displays an error message stating that wubildr.mbr is missing or corrupt and I cannot boot into xubuntu.
I installed OSSv4 replacing the default ALSA and everything worked just fine with some workarounds... until I upgraded to Lucid Lynx. Now apps like Totem and Rhythmbox which use the gstreamer framework have no sound. Does anybody know why?
